From the very first paragraph I knew this was going to be impressive. It just had a great vibe and I was very hopeful that the rest of the book continued with in the same strain. Thankfully, that is what happened.

The author took a ton of time researching her history and it definitely shows in this story. With a unique theme that makes this book an addictive read, the pages just fly by.

I love the blend of history, romance, and spicy heat! Plus, the

A while ago I commented on Facebook that so many historical romances today do not include any real history. They are somewhat generic. Well, that complaint is not relevant with Highland Crown. It is loaded with fascinating history AND there is a compelling romance as well. Isabella Drummond is a doctor and was recently widowed. She is wanted by the British government because she knows the name of Scottish insurgents in Edinburgh. Cinead Mackintosh is a ship captain importing weapons and other su ...more

This was my first book by May McGoldrick, but it won't be the last. Cinaed Mackintosh was everything I love in a Scottish hero. He was brave and strong, dependable, loyal and protective. He was a leader with a heart of gold.
With no home or family, Cinaed turned into a self made man sailing the high seas. His luck ran out when his ship smashes into a reef and he ends up getting shot while trying to save himself. Enter Isabella Drummond: widow, sister, stepmother and physician. She's also an outl

The man washes up on shore almost dead and as a doctor she decides she has to help him no matter the danger.

Highland Crown by May McGoldrick is a fantastic historical romance. Ms. McGoldrick has provided readers with a well-written book and a stellar cast of characters. I got such a kick out of Jean, probably because I'm turning into her. Isabella was in hiding with a double bounty on her head. Cinaed's ship sank and he was shot as his longboat was headed to shore. Isabella and Cinaed's story is packed cover to cover with drama, action, humor, steamy sexy bits and suspense. I enjoyed reading Highland ...more

I received a free copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I thought this story was enjoyable and the characters very interesting. At times I found the plot hindering on boredom as it was more of a telling than feeling. I commend the writing style but it was a little dry and found myself jumping ahead to other parts and chapters hoping that it would pull me into the characters and story.

I wish I could rate this more but it just did not bowl me over with much

As an avid and critical reader of historical romance, I have very few that qualify as my favorites but Highland Crown is now top of my favorite list. It is rare for a book that I’ve just finished to scream at me to read it again but this one does. Highland Crown has a fine and well detailed crafted story line that is very well written. There was a tremendous amount of research and care put into the words, the characters, the settings and it shows. The weaving of fiction and history together was ...more

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I was quickly pulled into the lush landscape of this tale. The balance of historical events with fictional pazazz made for the perfect bit of escapism I look for in the romance genre. In my opinion, the balance of historical fiction to romance was more heavily weighted to HF.

I found the characters to be both relatable and interesting to follow. I for one did not see the twist presented at book end. Typically a cliffhanger ending irks me. In this novel I felt eno

It’s been a while since I fell into a novel as effortlessly as I did with Highland Crown. From page one I could feel the world around me slipping away, until the only thing that mattered was the words on the page before me.I don’t think I’ve ever fallen as quickly either, or over something as simple as one person grasping another’s hand.It was more than that though. More than that simple grasping of hands. It was history and romance lovingly entwined. It was caresses and soft simple kisses. It wa ...more

In the afterword, the authors state that this story is the “opening chapter of Cinaed & Isabella’s life together. They are hardly finished with their search to solve the mystery of his birth…”. The story was well written (enough) that I did not feel shortchanged or frustrated that it ended where it did. It was satisfactory where it ended and had me looking forward to the next books. Apparently, there will be more in the series.

Highland Crown by May McGoldrick is an exciting tale of Scotland in the 1800's. There is an introduction written as if by Sir Walter Scott. The story itself begins with the unrest in Scotland over British rule. The reader is introduced to Isabella, a young female doctor, in hiding after her husband, also a doctor, is killed in an uprising and a bounty has been placed on Isabella's head. The place where Isabella is hiding is located on the Scottish coastline and a violent storm has caused a ship ...more

I'm a big fan of Scottish Highlander stories, like Outlander, and they tend to be my go to when I'm not sure what type of read I'm in the mood for. This story weaves fiction and history, bringing events and political intrigue to life in the Scottish Highlands.

After losing her husband, Isabella is on the run as there is a bounty on her head. Cinaed is the captain of a ship that sinks near the place Isabella is currently being hidden. He is shot as his longboat is headed to shore and washes up nea

Riveting! From beginning to end. Wow! What a story! I am not sure how much of Sir Walter Scott`s prologue is fact based, though I do know how these authors do their research I am sure the majority is true. The excerpts from Sir Walter`s writings certainty are fact. I loved the way each excerpt set up the happenings that would take place in the chapter. This is one of the best books I have read, full of action, intrigue, romance, a little humor, and rich in history. Cinead and Isabella`s story is ...more

This book moves pretty fast. A woman doctor with a price on her head is on the run. While in hiding she sees a shipwreck and it's explosion. One man is shot after escaping from the ship. Once ashore, she and the old woman hiding her, drag him to the cottage. She removes the bullet and stitches up the wound. No sooner done, then they are all three on the run. His only instinct is to keep her safe, from the British and the Scots. This captain of the ship is a lot more than he seems. Historical fac ...more

If you are a true history buff, you will absolutely appreciate the depth of research the author has put into this book. She captures the fighting spirit of the people of Scotland admirably. The plot and character development are well done. Readers will be impressed with Isabelle’s fierce willingness to fight for her ...more

This is an engrossing tale, as can be expected from May McGoldrick. The prologue, written from the viewpoint of Sir Walter Scott, provides some background information for those not familiar with Scottish history.
Innocently caught in the political and economic upheavals of the times, Isabella is hiding from bounty hunters until she saves the life of the shipwrecked Cinead. Together they are forced to flee, unsure of who they may trust.
Quite suspenseful with some unexpected twists and turns.

I received an advance copy of this book from Goodreads in exchange for an honest review. I'm glad I recieved this book because I really enjoyed it even though it's not something I would usually read. I didn't love Outlander so I was somewhat wary of taking on a highland romance, but I felt this novel was action packed, had likable characters to root for, and skillfully blended history and fiction. It ended in a bit of a cliffhanger too - I may just have to read the next one!

Isabell is a trained Doctor at a time when women were not accepted as such. Cinead is a man that has been sent away from his clan and becomes a captain of his own ship. One night Isabell finds him shot on the beach, and that’s were their troubles combine. The romance and adventure in this story is wonderful. It pulled me in and didn’t let go! I can’t wait for the next book.
