I’ve been reading this book to my daughter quite a lot. I enjoy the PAW patrol franchise, but this book is so poor, I felt that I needed to review it. It has changed my view of PAW patrol.
My biggest issue with this book (and it grows with each re-read) is the differences between the introduction to Tracker (male) as a character and the contrast of our introduction to Everest (female) as a character.
Tracker:
- Hears a call for help.
- growls at a snake
- stands by while Chase rescues Carlos
- gets a cool pup pack with awesome tools and perks
- gets a sweet truck
Everest:
- Saves Jake from being swept into a frozen river.
- helps him navigate the wilderness and
- saves him again when he falls from a breaking ice bridge
- gets a badge and is a ‘good pup’
- notice the lack of cool pup pack, tools, or trucks.

PLEASE. This is such a garbage example for young girls. This book wasn’t written pre-2000. We need higher standards for media for kids. I can’t wait to get rid of this book.

I was never sure on the genders of all the dogs until I read this book. Why on EARTH are there so many dogs and only two of them are female!? It's just so outdated. They could have easily made 25% of the dogs girls, and not changed a thing about them. My son's favourite dog is Skye, so it's not as if the 'boy' audience thing has anything to do with it. Irk this was the book that broke my patience for this series.

It gets the job done. I could nitpick but this is a book for literal babies so I won't do that. Not a five-star read by any means but perfectly serviceable for what it is.
