Did someone call for a badass mage to stop petty nobles from squabbling and face the real threat—unbridled Chaos?

In a world where the noble elite are supposed to fend off the threat of terrifying Chaos but instead engage in pointless, petty squabbles, young mage Siluca Meletes dreams of bringing justice to the land.

Siluca and Theo’s master plan is put to its first test: a battle against the fearsome Lassic David, the lord of a nearby domain who only cares about conquest. Assisted by Balgary, the next king of the Cait Sith, an incredibly strong Artist named Aishela, and Irvin, Siluca’s own Artist, these newly minted rulers of their domain must stand fast against the threat and pray that they survive the coming battle.

The expansion plan of Siluca and Theo continues, as they go to war against the neighboring Lassic David, whom they find a match in. Siluca, while a powerful mage in her own right, has to match her skills against Lassic's mage, who is quite formidable, and a strain on her exhausted powers. The Artists and soldiers are also having their own share of troubles. Meanwhile, Theo is feeling left out of the action, and finds it unfair that he has to stay back because he is a symbol (or whatever). The story focuses on the motives for the lords, why they want to govern or expand, and so far I am getting is that the system is very corrupt and prone to exploitation of the regular folk. I would love if they explore it into that, and not just make it battle porn; I gotta admit, though, that the action scenes are drawn wonderfully.

I would probably like this better if the story made an effort to address the various 'why's that pop up when you are reading this. Why, if the mages hold true power, are the lords in charge? If it is because the Lords can wield chaos, I am not clear why not use Artists? The whole magic and governing system has a lot of plot-holes and the only reason for this group to exist is that they are allied to Theo. And if I thought that wasn't enough to keep me invested in this series, the constant diversions into fan-service are enough to convince me that I want to drop it. Aishela, who is a powerful Artist, is reduced to a 12-year old's fantasy, whose only purpose is to sexually harass Siluca or try to get her into a bath.

In short, I am interested in the storyline, but the execution of the plot and the bad writing are making me drop it.

Blowing straight through to the next volume but the second volume was so amazing! I love that we get to see the soft side of Siluca and I adore Theo and his trust in her. He just knows to follow her and never thinks he’s better than anyone else. I also really love Aishela and her love of Siluca. We have a bunch of new characters to get to know so I’m really excited. I’m really hoping to get more of the Chamberlain!

Excellent story, just like the anime!

I watched the anime before reading this and it's just as enjoyable, if not more so, as said show! The only reason I didn't give this a full five stars is because one of the pages had a bit of a bad scan and it has some weird red and blue discoloration.

Some actual battles in this volume! Theo's small empire continues to grow, as does the cast.

We start off with a very one sided battle against an evil foe who's intent on conquering our hero's territory. Then...how dare you make me like the bad guys! Except for that mage. He's still kind of a jerk. Also insert one budding romance and a little public relations work.

This series has 7 volumes.
