HER LAWMAN PROTECTOR is a little bit of many things – a slow-burning romance, a fake relationship, a suspenseful mystery, and an all-around intriguing story. And it was also a book that I wanted to set aside several times during the first half. Not because of the usual reasons for setting aside a book but because I was so annoyed at Jack’s lying to Liv. I get he was undercover and that involves lies, but it rankled so much that I almost stopped reading a story that became so much more, and one that I’m very glad I did hang in there with until the ending. (I’m also glad that this ended well for me as a reader since I had already purchased the remainder of this series before finishing the first one – an unusual step for me)

Because this story has the feel of a Romantic Suspense in many ways I don’t want to say much about the actual story. There is a real danger to Liv, there are also betrayals that she (and I) didn’t see coming so to give too much away would spoil this for the reader who is thinking of picking up this book.

Once I set aside my irritation at Jack’s necessary lies in the line of duty, I enjoyed HER LAWMAN PROTECTOR very much. There is some world building, I expect that in the first story. We’re introduced to the small town of Eagle’s Rest and Liv’s very large family. I’m looking forward to learning more about this town, especially with the reveals that this story gave me.

In my opinion, this is a story you might have to be patient with for a bit. Let it and the characters seep into your curiosity and you’ll find a suspenseful, enjoyable Romance that lays the groundwork for a series that I’m looking forward to reading. I enjoyed myself, and if you love a good Mystery or Romance then I believe you will, too.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription – although I have purchased the rest of the series.

This book is a romantic suspense story. It is very emotional.

This story is about a woman named Liv Hylton. She moves back to her hometown to open a bookstore. She is the ex-wife of a guy who was a dirty cop. In this story you also meet a guy named Jack Talbott. He is a Detective and he has always been secretly in love with Liv.

Jack has devoted his life to ending police corruption. His latest target is Liv. To get close to Liv he has to go undercover as her boyfriend. She has been receiving threatening notes by someone. It points towards Liv being innocent. But Liv finds out that Jack has been investigating her and she is hurt by that. She has him removed from her protection. He feels bad about lying to her. Liv is in love with Jack. Jack will do anything to protect Liv from the person who is trying to threaten her life. This book was a good mystery but there wasn’t any spicy moments in this story. I wanted more from this story.

Umm...I was expecting more. The writing wasn't bad but it got a little boring. I almost thought this wasn't romance, it was more like a mystery with a little bit of romance. I could never truly feel the chemistry between the protagonists, they seemed more friends than a couple so when the first time the I Love You's came I couldn't believe them. The 'investigation' went through almost the whole book and didn't let me appreciate the romance, even the attraction between them was forgettable. And just from nowhere, in the last chapter, everyone has an epiphany and know what they have to do to solve the big problems (the fraud and their relationship). I didn't buy it. It was too easy. #sorry
