"The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief or bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares." -Henri Nouwen, Out of Solitude "This is a practical handbook for the bereaved and their friends, how to live with grief, to express it or not, how to find your natural way through. And the quotations from Neruda, Machado, Dickinson and others are beautifully chosen." -Coleman Barks, translator of The Essential Rumi
Short but packed with good things to know and remember. We humans are so uncomfortable with death and grief that we do ourselves and loved ones a disservice when we distract, dismiss, argue, or try to fix those in the grip of grief. This is a good little guide.
It was more for consoling than dealing with grief yourself. I'm sure it would be an excellent read if someone wanted to sincerely help someone grieving.

I seriously cannot believe I paid for this. The author has got to be kidding. Honestly, even calling this a book is doing a disservice to books everywhere. It was a random collection of very short platitudes. Basically, a chapter could be 8 words broken up into 3 lines. There was one point where each chapter was a single word.
So not helpful. Not a guide. Not a book. Total waste of money. Almost feels like being ripped off and taken advantage of while grieving. Shame on this author.
