First off let me say, I love my pressure cooker. So when I get a chance to learn new recipes to utilize my pressure cooker, I get pretty excited. This Old Gal's Pressure Cooker Cookbook by Jill Selkowitz is an amazing addition to my pressure cooker cookbook collection. I really enjoyed how the book split out recipes from breakfast, Chicken Dinners, Pork Dinners, Meat Lover Family Favorites, Easy Bowls, Indian Bowls, Soups and Stews, Chinese Favorites, Jewish Favorites, Pasta and Italian Favorites, Grains and Legumes, Appetizers and Sides, and Desserts. I do wish it would have had a Mexican/Spanish Section but the selection is pretty spectacular. Some of my favorite recipes being: Frosted Mini Frittatas, Jalapeno Popper Souffle, Spicy Chicken Bow Ties, Creamy Tuscan Garlic Chicken, Sunday Night Pot Roast, Drive Thru Tacos, and Beef Stroganoff. The selection of recipes, the beautiful pictures and the ease of the recipes for cooking are great for anyone. Fantastic, easy step cooking.

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy of This Old Gal's Pressure Cooker Cookbook for my honest review.

For anyone with an Instant Pot (or any other brand pressure cooker), this is a great recipe book to inspire and instruct you to create some brilliant meals.

I love the variety of cuisines this book covers - there's recipes from so many countries including Greek, Indian, Italian, Vietnamese, Thai and many others! The instructions are clear, the photos are inspiring and there are some handy notes to accompany the recipes which I imagine would be useful whether you barely use your pressure cooker or you're a seasoned pro.

As is usual for a pressure cooker cookbook, a lot of these recipes are meat-based (as with meat the pressure cooker really comes into its own), so if you do eat a lot of meat this book will be right up your street! If you're veggie or vegan you'll be a lot more restricted, of course, but there are still some tasty recipes you can try out from this book and I found some I'll definitely be giving a go soon. There are also some surprising recipes, such as desserts that I never imagined you could cook in a pressure cooker!

I'm really impressed with this book, it definitely makes pressure cooking seem clearer, and think it would be an excellent gift to yourself or others!

Author Jill Selkowitz, creator of the This Old Gal blog and Facebook group, has cooked up some of her best recipes to share in her cookbook This Old Gal's Pressure Cooker Cookbook. Selkowitz says in her cookbook she wants to demystify homecooking and she wants people to realize how using a pressure cooker can add tremendous value to their busy lives.

What I like most about her cookbook is the wide variety of updated recipes that go beyond the typical pressure cooker recipes often found. I've been using a pressure cooker for close to 30 years and I do love making Porcupine Meatballs or cooking a pot roast in my pressure cooker. Sometimes though I tire of some of the older recipes and was delighted find pleny of updated recipes that should add zip to my meals. I look forward to trying some of the recipes in her cookbook as I am sure they will tingle my palate.

Some of the recipes you'll find in her cookbook include:

Taiwanese Three-Cup Chicken
Low-Country Pulled Pork
Drive-Thru Tacos
Barbecue Meatballs
Cabbage and Sausage
Chicken Taco Bowls
Matar Paneer
Hard-Boiled Eggs
Yogurt and Greek-Style Yogurt

You will also find a section called Seasonings, Sauces, and More. Here you will find make-your-own recipes such as:

TOG House Seasoning
Taco Seasoning

Overall, I love how her cookbook and I look forward to cooking up many varied and delicous recipes thanks to her cookbook.

If you were one of the lucky 300,000 people who picked up an InstantPot on sale during Amazon’s Prime Day 2018, you need this collection of over 100 easy & delicious dishes from the popular Recipe Blogger Jill Selkowitz (better know as This Old Gal).

Always ordering takeout? This book had dozens of fast favorites from all over the Globe: Vietnamese, Thai, Indian, Greek, Cuban and Italian just to name a few.

If you’re following a diet, how about Keto friendly supper with Cauliflower Soufflé or a breakfast of delicious Paleo Mini Frittatas that are ready in less time than it would take you to drive to Starbucks?

Plus your family will love:

1. Main courses: Beef Stroganoff (cooking time 3 minutes), Pork Chops smothered in homemade mushroom gravy (cooking time 6 minutes) and Chicken Piccata (cooking time 2 minutes;

2. Super quick side dishes: Mashed Potatoes, Risotto & Polenta; and

3. Desserts including Cheesecakes, Lemon Curd, Rice Pudding and Egg Custard (the British way).

I decided to post my thoughts and chose leave a review after reading the advance e-copy of this book I received, courtesy of Net Galley. Thank you to Quatro Publishing /Race Point Publishing for sending this cookbook to me and the opportunity to read it before the publication date!

I have to be honest my skills with the pressure cooker only really run to cooking all my veg at Christmas but this book has totally surprised me. Who knew I could cook all of these things quickly and easily using the pressure cooker. I honestly wouldn’t have thought of using it for any of these dishes but I’m converted and can’t wait to start giving them a go. I love the notes sections under the recipes as well so I can add my own comments and notes to each idea.

Originally published on my blog: Nonstop Reader.

Food in many cultures is more than just nutrition. Cooking and feeding our friends and loved ones, the whole idea of hospitality and eating is cultural identity and a way to strengthen bonds of friendship and love. Philosophy aside, comfort food is probably a part of most of our lives and the author of this cookbook 'gets it'.

This Old Gal's Pressure Cooker Cookbook is packed full of recipes for new and old comfort food favorites. With the addition of pressure cooker preparation, these recipes are tasty and convenient.

One thing I really liked about this cookbook was the addition of a large number of ethnic favorites. Hot and sour soup is one of the things I always order in a new-to-me Chinese restaurant. This version of the standard ubiquitous spicy soup was a perfect blend of spicy and succulent. It's -definitely- on the standard family recipe list now. This version is vegetarian friendly and nicely spicy but not overly so.

Beef and broccoli is another one of those Chinese restaurant standards that very few people bother to make at home. The recipe in this collection is a nice substitute. We honestly didn't find it exactly like the restaurant version, but it was certainly a wholesome (and cost effective) substitute.

The third tryout from this collection in our case was another ethnic recipe... in this case sweet and sour stuffed cabbage . I hail from a very 'mixed' family and this eastern European/Jewish dish was a staple comfort food from my childhood and my wonderful stepmom. I have such fond memories of this dish growing up and this version is wonderful.

I review a fair number of cookbooks and this one was really great. Well prepared flavorful dishes made from easily sourced raw materials. There is a really wide variety of cultural cuisine covered, from Jewish to Asian to fusion to good ol' American. The photography is well done and the dishes themselves are superlative.

I find nothing at all to detract from this being a useful staple cookbook in the kitchen.

Five stars. I'm going to try all of these.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Yes, I am probably like many people, bought or gifted a Pressure Cooker or Instant Pot and too scared to use it. Mine stayed at the back of the cupboard for over a year until I started to see Facebook groups, Instagram Posts and Pinterest postings about these fantastic appliances.

Well my interest was piqued and I pulled it out and just looked at it, trying to figure out where to start and what to do with it. I began with rice, something you can't go wrong with. I can tell you I was very nervous, was the gasket going to blow? Was I going to burn myself or the rice? It was a definite NO. I couldn't believe how easy it was to use and when I started to find recipes I was amazed at what could be achieved in such a short time.

Then I saw "This Old Gal's Pressure Cooker Cookbook". This is a well thought out book with so many tips just to begin with. It is almost like a Pressure Cooker Bible. So easy to follow and I love the little coloured Pressure Cookers on the right hand side of the page that give you the times and servings. The Space for notes is excellent also, in cased you want to change the recipe and note down what you have done for the next time you cook that particular recipe.

The pictures are beautifully presented but I would have liked a few more.

This is definitely a book that I will use a lot.

Thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Race Point Publishing for the opportunity to read and review.

This is a fun cookbook with interesting and tasty recipes. It is written by a woman who started out in a different career, and has an irreverent tone. I enjoyed the tip provided for each recipe and the range of recipes styles. There is a photo of each finished recipe. The main issue I had was that the recipes made some assumptions and I did find some errors. I made two recipes: Cali-Mex stuffed peppers and Cabbage & sausage. Both recipes were really good and turned out well. However, the cabbage and sausage recipe didn't specify that the sausage should be pre-cooked. I live in an area where it is easy to purchase raw bratwurst, and just browning it would not be enough. The recipe also didn't include the step of serving the cabbage with the sausage. This is typical and I felt the book is best for people who are already confident cooks. For instance, the cheese grits recipe did not include the step of mixing the cheese into the grits. I received a digital preview copy, so it's possible some errors may have been fixed, but overall I think this is a book that gives a great range of options for using an electric pressure cooker and that is better for people who don't need detailed directions.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Race Point Publishing for This Old Gal’s Pressure Cooker Cookbook by Jill Selkowitz. I really liked the recipes in this book and it helped make me less scared of my pressure cooker. This book starts with pressure cooking tips and essential tips and tools which were very helpful. The book then goes into the recipes broken up by categories such as Breakfast, Chicken Dinners, Indian Meals (my favorite chapter), Desserts, etc. The book is filled with lots of great recipes; my favorites are: Bruschetta Chicken with Zoodles, Balsamic-Spiced Apple Pork Tenderloin, Cali-Mex Stuffed Peppers, Egg Roll in a Bowl, Pad See Ew Bowl, Chicken Tikka Masala with Butter Rice and Peas, Murgh Makhani (Indian Butter Chicken), Chicken Piccata, Vegetarian Frijoles (Refried Beans), and Corn on the Cob.

This book is full of variety, with easy to follow recipes using easy to find ingredients, that make great tasting food. The only thing missing is pictures of each recipes; there were not enough pictures of the recipes only about one out of three recipes have a picture. Other than that, this book is great and highly recommended, especially if, like me, you have been afraid of your pressure cooker.

I bought an instant pot on Amazon's Prime Day and then wasn't sure what to do with it. I was almost afraid to use it, never having used a pressure cooker before. Fortunately, NetGalley and publisher Quarto Publishing - Quarry Books, offered this cookbook to read in exchange for an honest review just at the right time!

Jill Selkowitz provides such a wide variety of tasty recipes, that I was almost drooling as I read through them. And she makes them sound very doable to make, even to a newbie! I KNOW!! Double win!! Not all recipes have pictures, but several do. The book is visually appealing and I really appreciate her notes and tips. She gave me the confidence to get started, and plenty of recipes to keep me going.

My only regret is that the review copy is a PDF that will expire, so I'm actually going to have to buy the book.

- I read this book from NetGalley UK in exchange for a fair review. -

I had high expectations for this title. I’ll list out the good points first. Overall very well written, clear cut instructions. A large compendium for cooking using your pressure cooker, as advertised! Definitely won’t run out of ideas for your daily meals. Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese and so many others to choose from.

The recipes generally require all sorts of ingredients which was a let down. I was hoping for meals made with simple and easy to procure items. Cooks with array of ingredients on hand should have this book!

That said, I might try some of the recipes if possible…

This is a delightful cookbook filled with delicious and unusual recipes using the pressure cooker. Having very little experience with a pressure cooker and grown up hearing how dangerous they were, I was a little hesitant to try it. The descriptions describe using an electric pressure cooker, but I used a range-top one.
I made the Greek Meatballs and they were delicious and not your ordinary meatball recipe in that it contains vinegar and lemon. There is a picture of each recipe. Included are ethnic recipes including Thai food (a favorite of mine), Indian recipes, and cornbread. I highly recommend this book.
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review.

I bought this book last holiday season, and it is really a good help especially to us beginners on using Instant Pot and Air fryer, I love how easy these recipes are and how delicious these recipes are. Even my sister-in-law asked me how did I make such awesome recipes, so I ended up buying her one as a gift.

I found some good ideas for recipes I would be interested in trying. I'm not the most adventurous or experienced cook as far as exotic type ingredients, so there are a lot of things I won't likely try to make, but this cookbook has a good variety of different cultural recipes and it's cool that they can all be made in a pressure cooker.

Great recipes for Instant Pot owners to try. There’s a good selection of international favorites. Some recipes take a fair amount of time to prep, but the IP makes up for some those minutes with a quick cooking time.

Good recipes but I personally did not like the layout of this book especially the index and the weird art at the beginning of each section. Check it out at your local library before making a purchase just to be sure that you aren't thrown off by it as much as I was.

I book marked a ton of recipes to try. Lots of tips and tricks and useless information in this cookbook. Loved that it goes beyond basics of beef, poultry, and pork and also includes cultural sections like Chinese, Italian dishes etc. Free on KU but might be one I need to buy and continuously use!
