Indestructible Joy: For The Next Generations

Rate this book
Having a long-term vision is crucial for discipling children and youth. This book presents a vision of indestructible joy for the next generations--a joy that can¿t be destroyed in the best, or worst, of times--a joy that can withstand the temptations, the trials, and the persecutions of the world. Each chapter is drawn from messages given over the past 15 years at the national conference for Children Desiring God (now Truth78). John Piper, Albert Mohler, Russell Moore, Bruce Ware, and more encourage parents and teachers to proclaim the whole counsel of God to nurture the faith of the next generations.

David and his wife Sally co-founded Truth78 (formerly Children Desiring God) with a strong commitment to casting vision and developing resources for the spiritual development of children in the home and at church. These resources reflect the passion for truth and the theological and doctrinal commitments that has marked the ministry of John Piper who was David and Sally’s pastor and ministry colleague for 33 years. In 2019, after serving as the pastor for next generations at College Park Church in Indianapolis for 5 years, David transitioned to the role of executive director at Truth78 to focus on continuing to spread the vision and equip churches around the world. David and Sally have two adult daughters and three grandchildren.

This is a hard book for me to objectively review since I worked at Children Desiring God (nowTruth78) for three years and my entire philosophy of children’s ministry has been heavily shaped by them. Therefore, this book comprised of messages from their National Conferences by speakers such as Al Mohler, Russell Moore, Bruce Ware, and of course John Piper is like reading my own brain (only at a more intelligent level 😊). I would say this book is a must read for anyone serving in children’s ministries (professional or lay or even as a Christian parent raising their own children) as to WHY we must teach the next generation diligently about the whole counsel of God and with the authority of the Word or God.
Because it is separate messages it is easy to read a chapter and then put down for awhile and pick back up again without being lost which makes it great for busy parents and ministry volunteers!

This is an excellent book on how we should view ministry to our children and the younger generations. It is so critical that we pass our faith on intentionally and this book helps us to consider how we might do that!

Great read for both parents and those serving in Children's Ministry. Each chapter focuses on a different area of training up children in the Lord and includes valuable encouragement and admonition.

One of the best books on ministry to children. Faces a variety of contemporary challenges in children’s ministry (shallow theology, parental abdication, corporate worship, etc).
