There is absolutely no way that I could give this book any less than five stars. If you're an avid watcher of my Youtube channel you got to watch me experience and fall head over heels in love with A big Ship at the Edge of the Universe (the first volume to this series) by author Alex White. There is so much I want to say about this book, but I'll try to stick to non-spoiler things, because everyone needs to read these books.

Firstly this volume picks up seamlessly from where A Big Ship leaves of

Alright 4.5. I almost gave this book a 4* because it suffers from being the 2nd book in a series where the first book is one of my favorite books of the year. The book starts off a bit slow and unfortunately follows the traditional path of explaining the back story as the novel unfolds. This is one of my pet peeves these days and I prefer a quick recap chapter and then being dropped into the story.
Once I got away from that though the book is just so damned entertaining and action packed that I

"It swung a claw at her, arms extending like a bullwhip crack, and Nilah leapt off one of the shelves to get clear. Her calf muscle seared with pain as knifelike claws grazed her skin, tearing her pant leg. She landed hard, but soundly, and dashed off after Boots and Aisha.

The song positively cooed with bloodlust."

If you read my review for A Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe, you'll know that it was one of my favorite reads this year. I mean.. I flailed hard over it. Wicked hard! It

I know it took me a long time to read this, but don't let that sway you about my review. I loved the first book in this series and the second doesn't suffer from a sophomore slump at all. The slowness with which I consumed this story is entirely about the state of my life while consuming it, the lack of time to sit to read, and the tendency to fall asleep as soon as I lay down and try to read.

I loved the book, though. The characters continue to grow and my investment in them continues to grow wi

Just feels like a rehash of the first book. These are getting some amazing reviews but something just feels off for me. Not sure if its the magic and scifi link.

More “Firefly” meets Jack Vance’s “Demon Princes” series, with nonstop action and wow, a LOT of explosions and gruesome injuries. One character says it all: “With all the stupid crap we do, it’s amazing we made it this far.” I do wish that the author would stop killing off cast members...still, I can’t wait for the next episode. Here’s what some other characters say:

“I’m not putting love handles on my killbot.”

All of her plans came to: Step one—the crew arrives; step two—explosions happen; step

Excellent follow-up and I can't wait for the next one.

Thrilling! With confident writing, White crafts screen-ready multi-stage action scenes that feel like the best Star Wars film sequences at times. His magic-heavy universe and rag-tag rebel space crew are all set up from the prior book, so everything is ready to launch at the outset. The team continues its quest to locate and take down the god-level-powered figures who destroyed (most of) their homeworld and are planning more of the same for the universe. This adventure incorporates future social ...more

The second book in Alex White's The Salvagers series lacks a bit of the, well, magic of the first--we already know the characters and the world, so there's less of a sense of discovery in this one--but makes up for it with a tighter plot with a well-defined antagonist who's less nebulous than the mysterious group the heroes were just coming to learn about in the first novel.

White's writing continues to be confident, his pacing strong, and his characters compelling. As I said in my review of the
'I'm not putting love handles on my killbot.'

There's basically non-stop action in this, which is almost a given for this series and I just love how deep everything goes and THE STAKES KEEP GETTING HIGH. I especially enjoyed the subplot regarding the cult but also, the Checo (nb character, yesss) thing and the whole Masquerade concept were so great to read about

Also, it's basically impossible to choose who's my fave, Orna or Nilah, li

This book was a whole lot of amazing, even more than the first one! We come in right in the middle of it all, a year or so later, with old favorites and a few new characters. But never once does the plot make you feel lost. It feels like you've tuned in at the perfect time to sit down and enjoy the ride.
And it's a hell of a ride.
We've got Boots coming out of retirement, Cordell and the crew after a cult, and Orna and Nilah in the midst of a very real relationship. I think this is what I apprecia

A thrilling sequel to my favorite sci-fi read of the year. Which makes Bad Deal another favorite sci-fi of the year. I will have more words to add to this later, but for now, all I can say is: READ THIS BOOK!

That is all.

Another fantastic adventure, loved every word.

Such a brilliant, colourful universe.

Loved the scale of the battles, all great, bring on book 2

A Bad Deal for the Whole Galaxy is such a fun, fast-paced adventure and I love the crew if the Capricious.

In this instalment we follow Nilah, Boots and the crew as they traipse across the galaxy trying to track down The Children of the Singularity - a cult who believe that the Gods are in the right and believe taking down the Harrow was wrong.

I really enjoyed where the story went, and the character development we got. I really care about the characters and what happens to them. Their relationshi

I love this series with my whole heart. Everything is crazy and fucked up but I'd still like to live inside these books. This is the type of book that made me feel so many things and care so deeply about all the characters that I had no idea what to do when I finished I just hugged the book and told it thank you. Thank you for existing. 💕🖤

The rag tag gang is at it again. With magic spells and up to date technology they go after a mysterious group intent on taking over the known galaxy.

A rousing adventure well worth reading.

Until every one of you is willing to stand up, we haven't gone far enough. So keep on betting your futures on a single, tiny starship crew. Take a load off and leave the rest to us .... Keep your damned medals.

If my praise and adoration for A Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe did not sway you to start this series, let me please reiterate.

You need this single, tiny starship crew in your damn life.

So this was a fun and fast read because as the second book in a trilogy the characters are familiar and comforting. I enjoyed this for what it is, the equivalent of a summer movie with lots of action sequences and things blowing up. It was great to see the whole crew reunited with some new faces to go along for the ride. We see everyone working together for a common goal of taking down the nefarious bad guys.
It's a YA space sci-fi fantasy book with people who do magic and speak in mediocre dialog. The book didn't do much for me and I found myself looking forward to finally being done with it.

The first book in the Salvagers series, A Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe, was surprisingly fun. I liked how it dropped the reader into a science fiction version of a fantasy universe, with unique rules and a rich history, without visible exposition, trusting readers to keep up; I liked how it dropped its protagonists into a struggle that had been going on for years without their knowledge without anyone to explain events to them and watching them do what the readers are trusted to do, whic ...more

A million thanks to Orbit for sending me this in exchange for my honest review.

UHM. WOW. I adored A Big Ship and I wasn't sure if it were possible for me to love a ragtag crew of misfits as much as I already did. But thank you Alex for blowing me away, yet again! A Bad Deal is even

Solidly entertaining plot-wise, but still clunky writing throughout.

The author is really bad at effectively referring to characters. In one paragraph, the same person will be described with their job title, their first name, then their last name, then their relationship to someone else, then maybe a standard pronoun, then (only if they're female) as "the woman." I lost count of many times Orna and Nilah are referred to as "the two women" or "her girlfriend." We get it - they're gay women in a re

I adore the first book in this series. Here's a relevant part of my review for it: "Fast and furious, we get space battles, planet battles, magic battles, fisticuffs, and more. I devoured all the breakneck action scenes. Another note of interest is that this book mixes a sci-fi space setting with a cool magic system." The second book is almost as fun though gets bogged down more often. Less brilliant than the first book, this one is still fun; fun and endearing enough that I'll probably finish t ...more

A bad deal for the whole galaxy is a bad deal of a book. No where near as good as the first. The story starts out great but then quickly goes south from there. A Big ship seemed to flow better with a lot better story line. A bad deal just seemed to spin its wheeles and go nowhere and was down right boring at time. I found myself skipping paragraphs a few times in hopes the story would pick up but nope and I hate to say it but I just couldn't finish this one, not even after leaving it for a month ...more

Alex White opens the second volume of his Salvagers trilogy, A Bad Deal for the Whole Galaxy with an action scene. The crew of the Capricious, not content with their galaxy saving adventures in A Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe, are tracking down the people behind that plot. But it is a tangled plot that runs deep into the galaxy’s elite and they need to do it one bad guy at a time. When the book opens they are following the money, trying to apprehend a man who might be able to start leadin ...more

Even better than the first one?! This was one hell of a ride! And there's a third one on the way! Okay, *deep breath* I'll calm down now.

The story continues with the crew of the Capricious, and a few additions, searching for the other "gods" who are out there causing havoc in the galaxy. Plus a little revenge for Clarkesfall wouldn't hurt. We're treated to the same attitudes and craziness, with a side of love from your two favorite mechanics, and an upgraded robot.

There will be spoilers. So, the 1st Salvagers book was amazing. 2nd one is just excellent. There's not a whole lot of difference between the two because it seems that Mr. White is telling one story in 3 installments. I still have an issue with the lengthy descriptions of the battles in both books. What I like about the story are the characters, their development and interaction. Some of the battles are many pages long. The action is cool, and you do care about the outcome. But I personally feel ...more
