Big Lake #14

Big Lake Fugitive

Rate this book
The phone call to the Big Lake Sheriff's office was no more than a curiosity to begin with. A couple calling to check on the welfare of a bruised and battered young man they had found stranded along the highway. A young man who claimed to be Sheriff Weber's son. But when a mysterious stranger arrives in town soon afterward and is evasive about his reasons for being there, the sheriff's instincts tell him the man has come looking for trouble.

Little does Weber know that those two events will set in motion a series of accusations, crimes, and confrontations that will have two experienced lawmen facing off against each other, expose a history of police corruption and brutality stretching across state lines, and lead to violence that will traumatize one of Big Lake's outstanding citizens.

By the time the smoke clears, the US Attorney's office and the FBI will face off with bad cops and a town full of people with a history of turning their heads and ignoring what has been happening for a long time. And when it is over, two communities will be changed forever.

Big Lake series

I really enjoy this series. I picture Walt Longmire as Sheriff Weber and Boss Hogg as the Mayor. Kind of makes it comical in a way. This series will not disappoint.

I'm afraid

Nick Russell's books of Big Lake have spoiled me for any other mystery books. But, you know, if you have read any of Nick's books, they are in a category all their own. Yes, there is a mystery. It's so much more than that. There's stories intertwined with the murder, that are also fun and interesting. The comments from people of the town are fun. It all rounds out a very good book. I haven't mentioned all the humor involved. There may be a murder but that doesn't stop the laughs. Nick Russell has quite the sense of humor. At some points, he omes very close to going over the line. I think there might be some who could or would be offended. Yes, but when you stop and think about where it's coming from and whose saying it, you can overlook it. All in all I have no complaints. Except, will there be more books after the wedding between Jimmy and Robyn? If not, then I have a major complaint!!! Thanks again Nick for having your books in Kindle unlimited, so more readers can enjoy your books.

You may remember Zach Murdoch from his days getting in trouble in Big Lake as a kid. He is in big trouble now, down in New Mexico where he is accused of drug possession. The police chief down there is particularly brutal causing injuries to Zach that require medical care. He escapes and makes his way to Big lake. He claims to Jimmy that he is innocent of that and also the murder that occurred while he was in ER. Naturally the Chief has a different story when he barges in demanding Zach be given to him to be taken back to New Mexico. Very interesting plot and lots of action!

Another good read

As with Mr. Russell's other books I didn't figure out who the murderer was until he put him right out in front of me. The wide selection of possible suspects really keeps the story interesting as Sheriff Weber goes about eliminating them one by one. It's odd how people lie even when they are innocent, but have something totally unrelated that they don't want the Sheriff to know about, which of course makes them look even more guilty. The story has a bit of everything, romance, office politics, mayhem and whatever fits in.

Who killed the nurse???

A young man comes home to Big Lake in fear for his life. He's wanted for murder in New Mexico! He claims that he's innocent but his story is so fantastic that no one except his mother believes it at first. Jimmie and Parks try to get to the truth while an out of control Police Chief from New Mexico goes crazy in their town. Who's telling the truth? And what is Chet up to when he tries to appoint Archer as Mayor when he resigns quoting heath reasons? Surely the Town Counsel isn't that crazy? Don't miss this outstanding book. Highly recommended.

Think I'm officially hooked.

As i read each new book in the Big Lake series i'm finding that Russell is really coming into his own with this series. I love all his characters. The issues I was seeing with the editing are almost non existent now. I wished and am now seeing that he is spending less time rehashing details about the characters...as if you hadn't read any of the books leading up to the one you are on. I'm looking forward to the Wedding!

Fugitive

Mr Russell is one of the best authors I have read. I like Weber, Parks, and the read of the gang. They are something else. This book was exciting and intriguing. I know what it said to be close to the truth and that's what made it so good and interesting. Can't wait for the next one!

Justice is not always Blind

This story line shine a light on justice. This story was heartfelt about a parent and child story to fight for justice. Sheriff Webber join the struggle. The introduction of the character and their profile was helpful to keep the story going. Great read and will have you cheering for the underdog.

More editing issues.
Another "phase" instead of "faze."
The worst one, and almost laughable: Going to pick up the latest "addition" of the paper. Uh, edition?
Decent stories, good characters. Please hire an editor.

And, oh yeah, people are "who" and not "that."

All of the Big Lake series are interesting, well written, good short reads for busy people and is excellent in following the same story line with the same characters. There is humor added into each story (sometimes a little too much) but overall great reading.

I LOVE READING BIG LAKE, REMINDS ME OF THE THINGS WE ALL ARE GOING THROUGH NOW. SOME OF IT IS DISTURBING BECAUSE A LOT OF THE BOOKS WERE WRITTEN BEFORE WE HAD EXPERIENCED IT, SPOOKY! BUT I LOVE IT EVEN THOUGH IT SCARES ME HOW ACCURATE AND TIMELY IT IS FOR RIGHT NOW. ;D

A time to die and a time to live

Following Jim Welch, Robyn, and their pals is the same as being personally involved as their friends! Great story that helps to make law men a great example for all to follow!

Big Lake Fugitive by Nick Russell

This is probably the 13th book or so of this author that I have read. This one was an interesting, fast-paced crime thriller. Shows how a rogue cop will go to any length to preserve power and position.

the justices system is broken

I’ve thought for years that our justice system is broken, and this story just reminded me of how bad it is and how a few bad cops ruin it for all cops!
Good to see a new mayor for the next book!

Big lake fugitive

Great story with a lot of unfortunate truth in the way of the world in which we live. Far too many people like the protagonist in this tale and too few willing to stand up for what's right. At this point in the nation's history, it was a very real truth.

What a Tangled Web We Weave!

That was definitely a story to remember. Amazing weaving of an interesting tale of wrong doing by the law enforcers but, justice prevailed. Another good one from Big Lake.

They just keep getting better

Nick’s books have some real heft to them. The stories race right along, no filler, just plenty of twists and turns in an excellent plot. This one is no exception. Read them, all!
