Born in New Zealand in 1907, Snowden became well known both locally and abroad as a writer of devotional books.
She spent her working life in the service of the Methodist Church, as a deaconess, which involved social service work among other duties. She wrote her first book in 1933 and published over 50 more. She was also well known as a broadcaster.
In 1975 she was awarded an OBE, and in 1956 she was elected the first Vice President of the Methodist Conference. She died in December 1999.
I bought this book second-hand at a jumble-sale at the Church-Hall in the Sussex village of Robertsbridge many years back. I think it was first published in 1958, and some of the language is dated, but a lot of it is quite beautiful, and I have returned to this book again and again over the years, rotating the 31 days of prayers through the month. It's been sellotaped down the spine and even so is falling apart, but I shall hang on to it!
