The ultimate teenage murder game continues! Based on Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, the sequel to the original Danganronpa, the manga series Ultimate Luck and Hope and Despair contains many scenes only hinted at in the game!
They say if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen...but the one who's on the hot seat is Ultimate Cook Teruteru Hanamura, on trial for the murder of Byakuya Togami! Revealing his true nature in the courtroom, Nagito forces his fellow students to realize they don't truly know or understand each other. It'll take all of Hajime's cunning, along with the help of his classmates, to cleave a path to the awful truth!
More Komaeda! Yes, please. The artwork is pretty much the same but I live and breathe for this white haired boy. This volume covers the ending of the trial of chapter 1 and chapter 2. What makes it interesting is seeing what Nagito thought and dreamt as he was locked in the old building. Also, you get to see his interaction with Mahiru. Once again, it's great to see how amazed Nagito is from Hajime's ability to catch up with him and find the culprit.
Volume 2 was a much better read than volume 1, incorporating more of Nagito's perspective and moments from his time on the island that Hajime wouldn't have known about. I will continue to criticize the portrayal of the girls' bodies, but other than that, excited for volume 3!
I think my biggest problem is that an entire case isn’t resolved in a volume. I know there’s a companion trilogy of manga which I think is weird since we haven’t even finished the second case so I wonder if the “companion” is just the second half of the story and it’s all just marketed poorly.
Either way, if I didn’t already own all 6 volumes (used store credit) I wouldn’t continue past this. It doesn’t do the games any Justice.
The second case is probably my least favourite to play, but it's not so much a drag reading it. Also, we get a handful of Nagito scenes in this that aren't in the game due to that being from Hinata's perspective. An enjoyable read.
This volume covers the rest of the Ch1 trial up to the end of the Ch2 trial. Not to say that the reasoning part is good, though—since it's from Nagito's perspective, they literally skipped the whole Chapter 2 daily life segment. The art style is as good as always.
Honestly was sad to me once I finished the second one. So many of them had already died especially my favorite. I love the series but was some of the deaths cruel!!
I liked this book a lot more then the first, it is really fast paced I will say but I honestly like that. The trials are definitely my favorite part I like all the detail in certain panels and scenes the artwork is actually beautiful. Overall a 4 star
I hate to admit it but the change in POV kinda ruins the investigation and character development this time. There is so much story missed and not much is added by following Nagito.
I know what's coming though, and I think the next volume will be great DUE to the change in POV.
