Definitely enjoyed this one more than the first. Action packed, danger everywhere, romance, friendship, and not knowing who can and can't be trusted. A solid second book in an exciting trilogy. ...more

I absolutely LOVED the first book in this amazing series, the author's debut, 'The Initiation' and was desperately waiting to get my hands on The Expedition. Imagine my joy when I received an advance copy of the book!
I started reading The Expedition yesterday and I just could not put it down - I know the phrase is over used but in this case it is absolutely true. I was up most of the night- I just HAD to finish.
What a book! It has everything - brilliantly well realized characters, drama, actio

Expedition, the second novel in The Initiation series, is set in a post-apocalyptic, dystopian landscape with a plot that is all too real and strikingly relevant to recent world events. I loved the complexity of the plot which is intelligently written and makes you think, and there are threats around every corner hellbent on precipitating the demise of characters I have come to love. The tension ramped up over the course of the novel and had my heart pounding at certain points.

The Expedition is the second book in the INITIATION series and let me break it out to you, it's even better! The first book was exciting enough but the second book outdid itself on so many levels.
The first one being the characters. We get to see real growth in them, and a kind of development that we were seeking since the Initiation. Again, friendship has been highlighted indefinitely throughout the entirety of the novel, and it couldn't get any better.
Second, the plot. Initiation introduced a d

Thank you to Permuted Press and the author for the advanced copy of The Expedition.

I don't usually write reviews, but this book was just so good. I stumbled upon The Initiation and loved it (5 stars for me). If I could give this 6 stars I would. This book is a quest story, taking the characters on an adventure outside New America, although it retains a lot of the problem solving elements from The Initiation. I can't even think of any other book to compare it to. Like The Initiation, it starts a

Thank you to the publisher for an advanced copy of this book.

As a huge fan of book one of the series (The Initiation), I was excited to get my hands on this sequel. And The Expedition did not disappoint! I was curious to see how the author would continue the momentum set up in The Initiation, where the kids faced the Bureau's carefully constructed (and deadly) challenges that left me holding my breath, biting my nails, and unable to put the book down. In The Expedition the the kids leave the wal

I loved The Expedition! It is a well written page turner which I couldn't put down. As the second installment in a trilogy which began with The Initiation, it tells the tale of the teen pledges and their perilous journey outside the walls of New America. The teens, accompanied by a team of elite Bureau Guardians, search the unexplored world in hopes of connecting with another civilization. What they

Unlike other young adult trilogies, this one got even better with the second installment. The plotting is tighter, the characters more developed and interesting and the dystopian world even more fascinating. It was a real page turner, well written with very good vocabulary and with good moral lessons along the way. A good and fast read and will keep the attention of all genders. I highly recommend the series and can't wait until the last one is published next year. As a public library director, ...more

This second instalment takes places almost immediately after the end of the first book. After surviving the Initiation, Drayden and his fellow survivors, Sidney, Catrice, and Charlie, are thrown into a new challenge, tasked with travelling to Boston on a mission crucial to the survival of New America.

Although this second book didn't move along at the pace of the first, there was enough to keep me interested. Several twists and turns to the story and an element of uncertainty around one member o

The Good:
- I really like the characters of this book. They're all unique in their own way and they have their strengths and weaknesses as well. In order to survive, they all have to work together. Where one falls short with their weaknesses, another picks up with their strengths. It really creates a bond between the groups that gradually grows on you.

-I read The Initiation and The Expedition back to back so I didn't need much of a recap but it was there for others who may not have read the first

What a great follow-up to the Initiation. The continuation of suspense from complex challenges of the subway into the world outside New America was a wonderful second step. This was a great entree to the appetizer of the initiation and I’m looking forward to the dessert. (Yes, I have eaten dinner yet!)

Our consumer society, in Chris's Babu vision, is a mixture of chaos and disorder. The decline can't be stopped by adults who are already caught in the vortex of daily habits, too tired or too bored to act. Showing the right from wrong to the young generation, encouraging them to follow a healty life, and to be responsable, are good reasons for Chris Babu to write a book and for us to read it and think about. Especially when the author uses such a captivating way to explain this priciple.

Chris Babu has done it again!!! I absolutely adore this series and the characters. I quickly became invested in them after the first book, The Initiation, but I am even more so now. They grow so much more in this second installment and I enjoyed every minute of it.

The book was a little slow going for me in the beginning because I just could not wait for their adventure to begin. Once they started, I had a hard time putting the book down! I just wanted to keep on reading to find out what happens
I received this book not knowing until after that it was a second book in this series. After tracking down a copy of the first book and reading it was an interesting story.
The world building is eerily comparitive to a modern day civilisation and human race if paired with a similar fate. This real life comparitive vibe felt throughout the book from the descriptive language and stark vast "apocalyptic" feel was a welcome addition to the overall reading experience.
The characters were well developed

A book that sets up a ton of questions and answers none of them, without providing a compelling reason to seek the answers in the next volume. The world continues to be intriguing, but the characters are still thin, the dialogue is still stilted, and the plot is muddled in unnecessary twists and lazy romantic subplots. If you loved the first book, this sequel will suit you j

After surviving the Initiation in Chris Babu’s THE INITIATION, Drayden and the others thought that they could live a happy life in a better place --- yet that could not be further from the truth. With New America’s systems failing, Drayden and his team must venture outside the walls of New America in an Expedition looking for other groups like them. Yet outside those walls are unimaginable dangers, including the superbug that destroyed the population of the whole world years prior.

This book picks up right off where The Initiation left off, with the new members of the bureau headed on a mission to see if there is life outside of "New America". Four 16 year old kids are expected to lead themselves and several armed guards on a mission from the old New York City to Boston. Fearing that they will catch the superbug that wiped out most of humanity, fighting for their lives takes o

With plenty of breathtaking action, nail-biting suspense, awesome thrills and unexpected surprises, The Expedition by Chris Babu is even better than its predecessor and I absolutely can’t get enough!

I’m not so sure if I should be reading dystopian books at a time like this, but I’m addicted. While the idea and concept are nothing new and seem a bit familiar with other dystopian books I’ve read, Babu makes it his own and takes readers on an amazingly twisty and thrilling ride. I think it’s im

The initiation was child’s play compared to the new quest bestowed on the four champions!

Shortly after completing the initiation, Drayden, Catrice, Sidney, and Charlie are presented with a new quest: to travel to the City of Boston and represent New America in an attempt to seek aid. New America is failing as battery life is coming to an end and wind turbines desperately need maintenance. Food production has been shortened and people are now being randomly exiled so that the colony as a whole ca

We pick up just after the first book ends (and what an ending it was!), and ready for a life in the lap of...wait, luxury? I thought everyone was equal? What gives? Yeah, well surprise surprise, some DO get to have their cake and eat it too.

Drayden wants to uncover the truth behind his mother's exile (but can he handle the truth?), Sidney is ready to welcome her sister with open arms, Charlie wants to join the Guardians asap, and Catrice is sorting through her feelings at having reached her goal

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley (thank you!) in exchange for an honest review. This does not influence my thoughts in any way.

I have read and loved the first book in the series, The Initiation, which was spectacular in multiple aspects (you can read my review here) so I was so excited to read this next one! I was also a bit skeptical at first since I barely remember the nitty-gritty about the previous book due to my severe forgetfulness, but I pushed through, hoping for the best. F

I will echo what a lot of readers had to say, it's hard to put down. You absolutely have to read the first book for anything in this one to make sense and certainly to understand the characters. I also have to say, the author really started a BIG story here and I was kind of worried that it would prove to maybe be too big and some pieces would get lost in trying to explain different elements but so far, that isn't the case. It feels like there are almost two stories moving here, New America is s ...more

Sure, who doesn't like a love triangle??? But we already dealt with that during book 1. It was basically the first book in terms of character development/characteristics/actions. Instead of having a 2 girl 1 boy love triangle it was throughout most of the book a 2 boy 1 girl love triangle, and then the last like 3 chapters we we
