How strong is the blood that binds? Tatiana Bolovich is a beautiful femme fatale with a haunting history. Having recently discovered the brutish Demetri Romanoff is her heartmate, she spent the past year avoiding him, but the Fates have other plans. Demetri commands every situation. A strong, valiant warrior he’s used to being in control, that is until he is kidnapped by demons. Forced to endure unspeakable experiments at the hands of his enemy, the Alpha discovers just how out of control life can get. Summoned by the Alpha Council, Tatiana grudgingly helps track Demetri down, promising herself that she will disappear from his life forever once the job is done. But matters of the heart are not so easily ignored. Will she give him a chance to prove himself, or will she deny her nature and slip away into the night?
Brenda Sparks has always loved all things spooky and enjoys incorporating paranormal elements in her writing. She refuses to allow pesky human constraints to get in the way of telling the story. Luckily the only thing limiting her stories is her imagination. Her characters are strong, courageous, and she adores spending time with them in their imaginary world.
Her idea of a perfect day is one spent in front of a computer with a hot cup of coffee, her fingers flying over the keys to send her characters off on their latest adventure.
So when I kindly received this ARC I was very excited by the premise. I love to alpha characters going head to head against each other. When they are both a supernatural pair it makes it even better. For some reason it didn’t occur to me that this was not the first book in the series but either way, the story was easy enough to follow along.
I felt like Tatiana was a strong female lead with her own demons while Demetri came off almost brutish. They had sparks flying from the beginning but I don’t know why I just did love the book. The story started pretty dark with Demetri’s kidnapping and Tatiana’s involvement in his rescue then took a sharp left to happytown with them attending a friend’s wedding together. The story just didn’t flow and I found myself skimming.
I suppose if you have invested yourself in this series keep going, if not I’d maybe take it with a grain of salt. Mehhhh.
Very Enjoyable! I volunteered to read this book for United Indie Book Blog. Alpha Pair by Brenda Sparks. This book is the first I read by this author. I loved the writing typle and character development. Demetri and Tatiana are heartmates and Tatiana spends years avoiding him. Once she is summoned by the council to track him down after he is captured by demons, and she can't avoid him. Tatiana has a past that is staining her present and quite possibly stifling her chance at true happiness. Demetri is taken prisoner by a mad scientist demon. They have a good mystery to solve and now maybe not a good time to figure out their chemistry. I can't wait to read more of Brenda Spark's books. Keep up the awesome and great work.
This is the first book I have read by this author. This genre is my favorite, but this book was just meh for me. I loved the writing style and character development. I just didn’t have the connection with the characters. I did not know this wasn’t the first book in the series but I didn’t feel lost.
Demetri and Tatiana are heartmates and Tatiana spends years avoiding him. Once she is summoned by the council to track him down after he is captured by demons, she can’t avoid him. Will she give in and just be with her heartmate?

This is a new author for me and when I accepted a courtesy copy for my reading enjoyment I was unaware it was not first in series - What can I say I like to go in blind. This does work okay as a standalone, though IMO it will be that much better if you start from the beginning. There are a lot of great characters within this story and I feel I would have been more vested in them if I had read the previous books. The characters, both lead and supporting, are detailed and seem to fortify each other quite seamlessly - the author definitely provides a well-rounded cast The storyline flows well-providing mystery and suspense that undeniably kept me vested and engaged. I had a lot of questions as I read and I believe that most would have been answered with prior knowledge had I read the previous books in this series. I really enjoyed the back and forth banter between Tatiana and Demetri - they are a well-crafted pair Tatiana has a past that is tainting her present and quite possibly stifling her chance at true happiness. She has a secret that if uncovered could steal her freedom - or so she believes. I greatly enjoyed the complexity of her character. She is witty with the perfect touch of snark. She is not one to tread in the whiny end of the pity pool - She is quick to take stock of her situation and base her decisions on the facts - okay fine most of her decisions - when it comes to Demetri she tends to be a bit "stifled" in her thinking? Demetri - I have to laugh at the early description of his tree trunk legs - though by the end of the story he was all marshmallow goodness. Having walked the earth for centuries many of his beliefs are a bit misogynistic though he truly is fair of heart. I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series.
I feel bad for this rating I truly do. This story had so much potential but it felt disjointed. I was also unaware when this was presented to me that it’s more than likely the third in a series so maybe that’s why I felt lost. I have also never heard of alpha vampires or maybe I have but they weren’t marketed that way.
Tatiana and Demetri are vampires. Not just any vampires but heartmates and alphas at that. Tatiana is very strong and independent and doesn’t want the bond with Demetri. When Demetri is taken prisoner by a mad scientist demon, things start to take a turn. He is used to being the typical male but can’t figure out why Tatiana won’t act like his ideal female. They have a mystery to solve and now may not be the time to figure out their chemistry.
I liked the thought of the story . I just had a hard time following and this totally may be me. Alpha vampires are a new breed for me. I liked the idea of an enforcement agency of vampires. Everyone needs to be policed I assumed even the supernatural. I think with some polishing this could be a good story.
