Beautiful pictures, basic text, good appendixes. Flowers are too easy of a subject; Sayre has done better than this, which is not much more than what one could get from a calendar.
It's spring and let's take a look at all the flowers. You won't find a more perfect book for sharing a wide variety of spring blooms than Bloom Boom by April Pulley Sayre. The huge across-the-page spreads have colorful and inviting photos of flowers in deserts, woodlands, meadows, and hillsides.
This is a truly beautiful book. But please go ahead and get this book and read it for yourself. You will be happy you did.
I used this in my green/growing storytime this week--what a fun theme! This book was a hit. With the realistic pictures and the information in the back, it's a beautiful edition. It kept a rhythm too, so that was fun with my bigger kids who wanted to help participate. Very nice.
For: spring/flower/growing storytimes; readers looking for a book with lots of gorgeous pictures.
Possible red flags: some readers may find repetitive or too long.
I read a 2nd book for #BitAboutBooks Spring Reading Challenge on a Spring-Related Picture Book. April Pulley Sayres celebration of flowers is just truly amazing. Each page consists of stunning photographs of flowers blooming and the many different ways they bloom. From California to Arizona to Texas the many varieties of flowers are celebrated in their breathtaking beauty. Pully has a must read section at the end with more facts information about each page of the book. A must read and visual delight.
Stunning! Will recommend to teachers in April looking for poetry and spring books. Will suggest they read/study the back pages that describe each bloom before they read to K-1. Maybe read before you head out on a nature walk. Snap some pictures and make your own class poetry book about spring blooms.
Another great picture book by April Pulley Sayre. The photographs are nice and large, great for sharing with large groups. The repetition of "Bloom Boom!" will be fun to say together. I also like that she added more information about the different regional flowers in the back. Great for toddlers and preK.
Reviewed for the Mock Caldecott Awards. A picture book done entirely in photographs. Although the photos are fine, I think they could have been much more crisp...I didn't think these were nearly sharp enough. It is a lovely journey through a spring countryside.
4.5 stars. Gorgeous, large pictures! The back of the book has information on wildflowers and spring blooms. Visting a CA desert spring bloom is on on my bucket list. I've created a mini spring bloom in my front yard! It's spectacular.
What an amazing book, perfect for spring. An absolute delight for your senses - it's a gorgeous poem by Sayre that celebrates the rebirth of growing things in the springtime and photographs that pop from the page. A definite must have for your springtime reads!

Very similar to her book about winter. I love when I get the chance to show my storytime kids books with real photographs that are still engaging for them.
A real life picture book of flowers blooming in spring with very simple text. Text makes this toddler and up but two nonfiction guides at the back back it elementary an up explaining each photo and the flowers found in the photo's
