After Zan’s best friend moves to California, she is baffled and crushed when Priya suddenly ghosts. Worse, Priya’s social media has turned into a stream of ungrammatical posts chronicling a sunny, vapid new life that doesn’t sound like her at all.

Everyone tells Zan not to be an idiot: Let Priya do her reinvention thing and move on. But until Zan hears Priya say it, she won

I started asking myself: What would it take for someone to believe they'd been ghosted by one of life's tried and true friends? Because there are people in my life who, if they ever stopped talking to me, I would have to assume were trapped under a boulder. What would it take to give up on someone like that? (less)
Yutika Hi!! Yes, this book does have LGBT rep. The main character has two mothers. Hope that helps!!

This was totally not what I expected.

Well, that’s not quite accurate. This is exactly what I expected, but I have learned to expect the opposite of my expectations.

When I hear “young adult contemporary mystery,” I want to expect exactly what it sounds like - a mystery for young adult readers set in a contemporary time.

But I am well-versed in the marketing language of young adult books, and I know I am way more likely to get a YA romance with a lot of high school drama and a little bit of mystery

This one caught my attention from the moment I read the blurb. Your best friend moves away. But you still have phones, social media, etc, so it’s not like she’s disappearing off the face of the earth, right? But when Priya seems to do just that, breaking up with her boyfriend, telling her bestie Zan that she needs space and refusing to call, posting random social media pictures of trees and scenery that frankly anyone could have found and don’t exactly say “proof of life”, Zan starts to worry. This is one of the most heartfelt testaments to female friendship I've ever read--it plunged me back to a time when indeed "ladies before mateys" was the way we lived. In Katy Loutzenhiser's YA debut, Zan's best friend Priya ghosts her, but the story of their long and close friendship is told in flashback, with moments of intense sweetness and humor. If you come away with any one lesson from this novel, it's that true friends really do have your back--they don't give up on you *no matter what.* ...more

wow I really enjoyed this! way more than I thought I would. loved the friendship and the romance SO much.

This was cute and had all the friendship + family feels, but the mystery wasn't that good IMO. I hoped for something more dramatic and tense, but I guess the author wanted it to be more realistic? Idk, but the revelations at the end fell a bit flat to me. The characters were okay, I actually liked the MC a lot and I liked Logan - I'm glad the author didn't put the romance first and kept the story about Priya and Zan's friendship the main focus.

The plot was a different case - I wish it moved fast

This was such a fun, yet heartfelt book!
I'll admit, I wasn't quite sure what to expect going in. The premise was great, but I could also see how it could get cheesy? Well, good news friends! It was unequivocally not cheesy, and instead full of fabulous! We meet Zan, who has a real case of the sads cause her best friend Priya has moved away. And that is not a fun situation, as I am sure

Zan was beside herself, when her best friend, Priya, moved to California, but they promised to keep in touch, write, text, Skype, and visit on breaks. That was the plan, but then Priya ghosted her. Zan's texts, emails, and phone calls went unanswered. She couldn't believe Priya would do that to her, but she was going to give up on her.

• Pro: Fierce female friendship for the win. Yes! I loved that Pryia and Zan were a bestie-second-generation (their mom's were best friends), and they knew and und

This is a must-read for anyone who likes: rom-coms; mysteries; adorable little siblings; compelling and tremendously sympathetic MCs; and just plain old-fashioned (yet contemporary) storytelling. Just clear your calendar, because you won't wan to put it down!

Having been ghosted by one of my closest friends last year, If You're Out There was a deeply personal read. There's a lot about this book that I probably liked more because of that experience, and there's also a lot that I like less for that same reason.

If you've never had someone ghost you who you thought cared, you might spend this book yelling at Zan to get over it already. Pretty much everyone in her life is telling her to move on. That's what I heard too, but it's difficult to move on witho

Once upon a time I read THE FACE ON THE MILK CARTOON approximately 753 times and this book makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside for those days of fun and addictive teen thrillers. Fresh, funny, emotional, and compulsively readable. You won't be sorry you picked this one up.

MY THOUGHTS
Admittedly, the cover was the first thing that drew me into this book, but this book also seemed to focus on a normal topic that we hardly see in YA novels. This novel shows us a character whose best friend has moved and is not responding to her emails, something many readers likely have experienced. Yet, it combines the sadness of missing a friend and the ordinary life with the mystery of a friend si

Ehm, didn't I start this one yesterday!? Ha, I sure listened fast! I really got into it and wanted to know wtf was wrong with Priya.

Zan had the best BFF. And then she got ghosted. All while Priya shows sunny pics on instagram and talks to everyone else.

So I had a hundred ideas. Priya was a bitch. Priya and Zan had a lover's quarrel. Priya was taken? This one was the darkest. I needed to know. And no one believed Zan, they just said that besties grow apart.

Logan was the best! Everyone should have

I just finished this amazing book in the span of one day, and wow. World, look out. Katy is such a fresh voice in contemporary YA. There are so many things to love about this book - the mystery and intrigue, the diverse cast, the hilarious and gritty voice, the adorable love interest, and more!!! I could seriously go on and on forever. I'm not kidding when I say that some of the lines in this book had me laughing out loud so hard that I choked on my water!

I also love that the heart of the story

Hey, are you there?

Ever since Zan's best friend moved, it's like she's a whole new person. Zan tries everything to reach out to her, but suddenly Priya ghosts her. Everyone tells Zan to relax, that Priya's just reinventing herself, but Zan can't accept that things are over. Zan knows something isn't right and with the help of a boy from school, she investigates all the "clues" Priya's been leaving her through odd social media posts. What they uncover might be something far worse than the end of

Every time I looked at this book I had John Legend’s “If you’re out there” stuck in my head and I do now while writing this review. It’s a good song but I’m going crazy with it constantly being in my head.

I digress, this book made me miss my favorite city and Lincoln Park immensely. It was cool to read a book where I knew the locations and really have a real life visual even though it’s a fictional book. But I loved Logan even though Zan and Priya got on my nerves. It is a great story for YA an

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. I’m a sucker for a book with a good friendship aspect. I under the draw of writing the frienemy, but I love a good female friendship that has its ups and downs but still can withstand the test of time. And I love a story that deals with the possibility of losing that friendship and how that affects one

Have you ever scrolled through someone's Instagram feed and thought:

This is a little too glossy? or This can't be real?

What if that person is your best friend, and they've recently stopped answering all emails, texts, and phone calls, so you can't know for sure?

IF YOU'RE OUT THERE is one of my absolute favorite types of Contemporary YA: a little bit of mystery, an adorable romance, an intriguing plot, and a great ending. I devoured this book in just over a day because I was SO intrigued. I also

I really hope that my best friends are like Zan and never give up on me.

Zan and Priya were best friends.  Their moms were friends until Priya's mom died.  They did everything together.  Zan had other people she would talk to, but not a real friend like Priya.  So it was killing her that not only did Priya move to California, but she also stopped talking to her.  Priya left with her step-dad, Ben.  Zan stayed behind in Chicago, living with her mom, her mom's girlfriend, and her little brother.  S

This contemporary with a suspenseful flair was much better than expected! The characters, especially Zan, were relatable, and easy to connect with. I loved the concept of the story, and the social media use was a clever touch in this novel. The writing style was simple to read and despite starting slow, the story picked up quickly.

This was an epic joy-ride of mystery and missing. I was not expecting a thriller when I started reading this. Where you see thrillers as dark and grungy, this was light and filled with comedy. I thought it was so enjoyable! I’m very thankful for winning a copy of this. If You’re Out There shows how powerful friendship and connections can be especially when the other is in danger because we just know when something is wrong and we can’t trust many people outside of our circle.

An enjoyable read that keeps you interested and guessing. It was refreshing to have a thriller that focused on relationships between family, friends and something more as well as the mystery plot line.
A novel I can happily lend to my students without the worry of gratuitous violence, swearing etc...
