Seems I’m on a roll here…

Or at least it feels like it when it comes to romantic/thriller/mystery type books. ‘The Eagle and the Fox’ is the first book in Nya Rawlyns ‘Snowy Range Mystery’ series and I absolutely loved this one. Josiah Foxglove is a veteran of the Gulf War and he’s returned to his family’s spread to help out and to let himself heal in both body and spiri

The Eagle and the Fox has a stark, but beautiful setting, interesting main characters with a dual POV, terrific narration by Nick J. Russo, some romance, and an compelling mystery.

I thought the pacing was slow, and I felt like one of the side characters, Kit Golden Eagle, wasn't really given a lot of backstory, but otherwise the main and supporting cast is pretty well fleshed out and the plot was quite engaging.

Part of that comes from Russo's narration of the story. He brings all the emotional n

This one was a solid read for me. Someone on the 'zon mentioned that this author could not be classified as an ALL- mystery or romance or country writer, which I would agree with after having read this.

This book is a mix of everything and it worked, up to a point. My true rating is probably 3.5, but I thought a rating of 3 stars would be too little, since this one actually kept my attention, even though it was slow once in a while AND it ends unresolved!

I have to give props to Rawlyns for her sk

Book was bad, I found the way the adult men treated the young girl rather creepy.
Narration was OK.
Not for me.

I’m not sure why I hadn’t read this before, since I’ve enjoyed many other books the author has written. Nya Rawlyns offers a true sense of western life and small town community, descriptions of both landscape and characters feeling natural and authentic. I love mysteries accompanied by action and adventure and a romance between mature characters was the crowning touch in this tale. At 47, Marcus has mourned the loss of his never publicly acknowledged partner Tommy, for three years. Josiah, 38 ye ...more

With The Eagle and The Fox, the first in a series of Snowy Range mysteries, Nya Rawlyns has done it again. Those of us who know her work aren’t surprised at the fact that she’s created an intriguing world peopled with solid and engaging characters who grab our interest immediately and refuse to let go even after “The End.” We aren’t surprised at the depth of even the minor characters, nor at the heat of desire that sizzles off the page. We’re not surprised by Rawlyns’ refusal to wave tropes in f ...more

The Eagle and the Fox: A Snowy Range Mystery is a mystery novel, so if you’re looking for a romance in the traditional sense, you’re looking in the wrong place. This isn’t my first book by this author, I quite liked her Bad Boyfriends series; I was very excited to read this new release, but it wasn’t what I expected.
I love books with a good mystery and a healthy dose of romance. In fact, I prefer the focus to be on the romance, while the mystery part is secondary and nicely woven into the plot.

This is the first time I've listened/read anything by Nya Rawlyns and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. After a bit of a rough and slow start at the beginning of the book, I found myself listening more intently and I didn't want to stop. I grumbled when I had to hit pause because I needed to know what happened next. This more than an MM romance. It's about letting go, moving on, finding a new path and love along with it. It has suspense, funny moments, and so much more. Let's break ...more

A surprising mystery in a western setting!

This book was a hidden gem, one I will gladly re-read again and again. This is not your ordinary M/M book, it will hold your heart and keep you wanting more!
The narration was superb, Nick J. Russo did an amazing job capturing all the accents, characters and emotions in the book. His performance drew me in and had me hanging on his every word.

The Eagle and the Fox is the first book in the Snowy Range Mystery series.

The story is about two adult males, a young girl, and her secret boyfriend. The two adult men, Josiah and Marcus, have known each other for years, but only to 'grunt' to each other as they pass by in the store that Marcus owns. Pet is the young girl that Marcus keeps an eye on, like an adopted uncle. He took her on to save her, but you'll need to read the book to find out what he was saving her from! And Kit is her secret

Audiobook Review:

I really enjoyed this book. It had all the elements I generally love, older MCs, hurt-comfort, a mystery and lots of action. At times I sort of lost the narrative flow of the story, as there is a story within the romance story and it got a little convoluted. But it didn't really take anything away from my enjoyment. Also, let me say that despite the book cover, this is not a shifter story. And despite "Kit" being in the blurb, he is a minor character and not part of the main mm

This book has the outlines of a romance, but the climax, figuratively-speaking, is skipped over

I wanted to like this book: how often are there books written about mature, older men? Despite the fact that the MCs are scarred —one very physically— this book sidesteps the initial getting naked and revealing themselves to each other, which would have been the high point of the book. This book has the outlines of a romance, but the climax, figuratively-speaking, is skipped over. The romance is second

Packed with action! Mesmerizing!

Two wounded men, one physically and mentally, the other emotionally, struggle to make sense out of their ever-changing, chaotic world. One tiny wounded girl turning woman brings the two together in very unexpected ways. Add a mysterious Native American stranger who appears and disappears just as quickly and it becomes one wild ride of a story. Couldn't put it down....now aching for more!

Great characters. Got a little confusing when Kit kept taking Petilune and then she would turn back up. Enjoyed the ending but hate it when the drug dealers get out on bail and then they're gone.

Recommended.

Audiobook.
Excellent. Narrator gave a really good performance. The story was great and left a few questions unanswered (no neatly tied up ends here).
Loved both MCs, especially Josh, and the development of their relationship. Liked having older, not body perfect MCs.

Will definitely read more of this author.

This was my first book by this author, I really enjoyed it. I liked the narrator as well. I loved the mystery aspect of it all, who’s the good guys and who’s the bad guys, the line blurred sometimes on certain characters. Great secondary characters that helped push the story along without them getting in the way.
Both MC’s were in depth and you could feel the struggle between the wanting and need they both had to build something they both wanted so much

3 Stars overall for the story and narration combined

Book one in the Snowy Range series. This book is a western type mystery set in the present day, intriguing with a little bit of romance thrown in. The romance aspect of this book has a slow-burning lead up to the two older men coming together.

I had previously listened to Timber Lake, the second book of this series in Audio (not sure how I missed this first book) and I enjoyed the author's writing style and how they incorporated the mystery and

The cover: I don’t always discuss the cover of a book, usually only if something really stands out to me. The cover is nice looking, however, for me it seems a bit misleading. For me, a cover with animals usually lends itself to a shapeshifter story. There are no shapeshifters in this book, to be clear. I imagine the eagle is for Kit “Golden Eagle” and the fox for Josiah Foxglove. It didn’

I thoroughly enjoyed this well-written story, so much so, I listened to it again straight away.

I love Nya’s prose and story-telling style. It was great to see a romance develop between two older, imperfect men. Both were lonely and suffering and their relationship was beautifully shown through their words and actions. I also enjoyed how they worked together in an unofficial investigation into Petilune’s mysterious boyfriend, her wayward brothers, and the strange yet violent goings-on in the tow

Four stars!
This story is very intriguing. I was kept on the edge of my seat the whole time with the mystery and wanting to know who did what and how everything fit together. I’m still not 100% on what happened but I’ve got some guesses. It feels like the story isn’t finished though the ending is logical. Plus the relationship between Josiah and Marcus is a very happy ending. They’re on solid ground, have a future sketched out that you can clearly see. There’s just u

Nya Rawlyns does it again, playing the piping tune that draws us helplessly into her worlds. This one is undoubtedly one of her best 'newer' novels, drawing the reader into a a complex tangle of what happens when a sleepy small town dangerously intersects with the more modern scourges of drugs and mystery. There is a full and varied cast, and every single character whose paths we cross is made more than real. Kit and Petilune together breaks my heart; Marcus and Josiah OWN my heart. I don't really like gay romances, but this one was really good. And the romance between the two men was special, and believable. The whole story line was real good.

Nya Rawlyns cut her teeth on sports-themed romantic comedies and historical romances. She found her true calling writing about the wilderness areas she has visited but calls home—in that place that counts the most, the heart.

She has lived in the country and on a sailboat on the Chesapeake Bay, earned more than 1000 miles in competitive trail and endurance racing, taught Political Science to unwill
