High Lord Nartesis Shazarack has long been remembered as New Cronoa's heinous Father of Necromancy. Some have heard rumors that he was so powerful that he defied death itself. But only a handful are aware that without his vision, both villainous and heroic, the valiant Dragonbonded--even dragons themselves--would never have existed. It is time to set this story straight.

I'll say it upfront. I have mixed feelings about this one.

The premise is great. The origin of the villain is my favourite kind of a story. Writing is nice, accessible and easy to follow. This was beyond amazing! It should honestly be submitted for an award. It's J.D.'s best work to date and one of the best novellas I've ever read!!

It reads from the antagonist's POV--a huge bonus for me. The writing, the world building, and Nartesis' downward spiral are of the same caliber as Arthas by Christie Golden and Illidan in Richard Knaak's War of the Ancients (Warcraft books), and Jardir from Peter Brett's Desert Spear.

I loved being able to see the world through the view of Nartesis. It was awesome to understand why he became who he is and to see all the events that led up to him being this brilliant yet sadistic Necromancer. A great novella that I would recommend to all! SO good.
