I started reading this yesterday at like 9pm and was like

"Hmm... This sounds really familiar...

(10 pgs later) Oh Yeah! I read this! I really liked this book ....

(5 hours later) Well, who needs sleep when you can finish a re-read instead...

description
Besides, I'm told that my co-workers like my salty attitude in the mornings, how am I to achieve that with the proper amount of sleep at night!

This is one of my favorites from B.B. Hamel. Some of her stuff can be OTT and somewhere in the silly smut zone. ~ Which BTW I am NOT opposed to as you can see by my reviews; Smut has its place among the literature of our time (That place being late night, in bed, with your Ben and Jerry's, in my case at least) BUT still a place!)
Anyway!! This book is different than a bunch of her other stuff and I liked it a lot. The Characters are great and well developed and the plot line is intriguing with off the charts chemistry.
Off to find more of these!

I don’t even know what to say without giving anything away. First of all I enjoying reading My Brother’s Bad Best Friend, Lizzie and Jonas, are so cute together. Ezra is Lizzle’s older brother, Jonas and Ezra are best friends. At first Lizzle didn’t like Ezra she thought he was a jerk and never see herself with him. Ezra tries everything to notice him it’s getting harder for him. This was a cute story I give this book 4 stars

Happy Reading

This was an interesting story. Jonas & Lizzie have an amazing connection but since Lizzie is Jonas best friend sister, she is off limits. But they can’t stay away and finally give in. Both not having the best upbringing they are drawn to each other. I liked the story and the interaction between Jonas & Lizzie. I was hoping that Ezra would change but maybe that could be another story.

I'm glad this was free when I got it cause I sure wouldn't pay 3.99 for it.

It took me days to read. I had to put it down and then pick it up later. I was bored, and I'm really shocked I finished it. The best friend wasn't bad the brother was. It had a couple good moments, few and far between.

This was probably one of the worst books I've read in recent years, it almost made me go to all othe books I gave one star and raise the score a bit, I really wanted to like it, I really wanted to finish but there's a limit on how many random comments about genitals and careless portrayal of abusive relationships this girl can hadle.

So the (f)protagonist was in an accident that effed her leg, killed her imbecilic boyfriend and left her rightfully traumatized and the (m)protagonist pretty much tells her that it wasn't a big deal and for her to get over it, her reaction: He's so hot... That's pretty much all they seem to think about each other, he's so handsome/he's not how I expected, she's so hot/I want to eff her, I get that this is a romance but that doesn't mean the protagonists need objectify each other right from page one, and let's just talk for a second about the crude language in this book, don't get me wrong, IRL I'm probably the biggest potty mouth you'll ever see and I don't mind people swearing or being overly-descriptive, but in this book, expecially on Jonas's POV it all seemed so forced, like a child trying to sound cool by cursing.

And let's also talk about the drugs thing, one minute J boy is like "is not as bad a coffee" and then "it'll rot your brain" and then "you want some", consistency is actually very important in writing any book regardless of genre.

PS: I really didn't appreciate the little rant about Starbucks, or the amount of "not like other girls" bull floating around.

The couple: Jonas and Lizzie

Romance trope: brother's best friend
Length: 207 pages

Plot: Lizzie's brother Ezra has finally left home because of their awful stepfather. He and his best friend Jonas take off and tell her to call if she ever needs anything. She finally shows up at their place of business with a black eye, courtesy of the stepfather. Her brother isn't really helpful - he's got problems - but Jonas feels like he should help her out.

Commentary: Our hero here is on the grey morality scale - he's a former drug dealer - but not that former - who has transitioned into a legal pot shop. He's also managing the career of an up-and-coming skater. He's a hustler for sure. He has a bad reputation and most of it is deserved. Lizzie definitely has a crush on him but she knows he's bad news. Her life is in shambles though, so it doesn't seem to matter. She was in an accident and was left with horrible persistent pain. Her mom won't protect her from her abusive stepfather. She has nowhere to live except with Jonas and her brother. Her brother has gotten deep into drug dealing with Peruvians and is using as well. At the end of it all, Jonas, as bad as he is, is the only person she can count on. He has big plans but he's falling for Lizzie as well and might just be persuaded to be a better person for both of them.

I rate this book OK, as it was not my typical story. Yes, I like a bad boy romance, but this had way too much involvement with the drug culture, both legal and illegal, and not enough 'bad boy', bossy, take charge for me. The writing, plotting and development of the story and characters was well done. I would normally read something with a bit more suspense, but there was some....

That said; I liked Jonas and Lizzie. Their characters were great, I did feel like I got the chance to know them and made enough of a connection with them that I got involved in their story. The slight mystery into who Jonas really is; is he the bad boy they say and all the rumors are true? Or is he the caring best friend trying to help, but doesn’t care what others think? This I loved! He was in the middle of trying to find himself too.

The strength that Lizzie finds through the story is great. The fact that she was able to work to overcome a devastating tragedy, then the loss of her family, and also the loss of the hero she looked up to. Lizzie was able to grow and come out on top with the help of Jonas-who really did try to let her figure it out on her own in the beginning. I was hoping for some type of reconciliation in the end, but maybe in another story those questions will be answered.

The epilogue was the greatest. There is nothing like a short glimpse of characters years later to see they are doing well. Love that the ‘teens’ from the skate park were in it.

This full length story was so different and unique. I enjoyed reading something that hasn't been written before, it was refreshing. This is the story of Jonas and Lizzie, told in dual narration.

Jonas is suppose to be the “bad” best friend to Lizzie's brother, but we quickly learn that is not completely accurate. He is difficult, thoughtless at times, and aggressive; but bad? No, I don't think so. Lizzie is a strong but slightly broken and lost women, looking to escape her tragic past and threatening family life. She seeks out her older bother, only to ultimately find Jonas and her love.

What I loved about this story was the development of Lizzie and Jonas, their relationship but also how each of them grew individually. It was great watching them develop into stronger more independent characters. I loved the aspect where Jonas owned a weed and coffee stop, so modern, so now. It made the story so much more realistic. The hookup scenes were hot and a great addition. As with all of this authors works you get more story then steamy scenes, but that are balanced perfectly into the story.

What I did not like about this story, and I believe it was by author design; were the secondary characters. Royal, Lizzie's mother and her brother; they all rubbed me the wrong way and it felt like too much negative in such a fun story. I did like Lane she was one of the only bright spots outside of the main characters. Great story, fun read and worth buying. I received an ARC and I am leaving an honest review.

I love this trope and was hoping for a bit more depth. The characters were likable but I felt like there should have been more backstory for the H, more romance/feeling development between them. I never felt like they actually liked each other or were in love, just purely sexual.

This is an intriguing story that draws you in from the start, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Ezra and Lizzie have to deal with their abusive stepfather, and this puts a strain on their family lives. Jonas and Ezra are best friends, but Ezra has always lived in Jonas’ shadow. Now that the two have a successful business, Ezra decides to branch out on his own, but his actions put lives at risk. Lizzie is Ezra’s younger sister by 5-years, but there has never been a closeness between them. Ezra considers Jonas “off limits” as far as Lizzie is concerned, but the attraction between the two cannot be denied. All in all a wonderful, engaging story that has lots to offer the reader.

For Ezra, that’s it; he is leaving home forever. 5-years ago Ezra made his half-sister, Lizzie, a promise, a promise she has thought about over and over; now she is here to see if it means anything or not, as she turns up with a black eye and a duffel bag. Lizzie feels guilty about the accident she was involved in; for 2-years she barely left her room, suffering one painful day after another; now she feels pathetic waiting for her older brother, practically a stranger, to rescue her. It is obvious that Ezra doesn’t want her here, but Lizzie is going to make him uphold his promise, even if she has no clue what she is going to do with herself anymore. As Ezra’s best friend, Jonas has been a part of Lizzie’s life for a few years now; she knows all about the drug dealing, the partying and the fights. Jonas and his skater friends are notorious around San Diego, and Lizzie has always been both afraid, and fascinated by Jonas, but is the feeling mutual. In all his years selling weed, Jonas never thought he would actually make a living from it, but now he and Ezra have a successful business known as Half Pipe, as well as an interest in the skate scene, where Jonas is clearly well-liked; all Lizzie wants to do is get to know Jonas better. Jonas gets a glimpse of the Lizzie he remembers from when she was younger, but he also thinks about himself back then too. As a child, Jonas was always willing to hurt and fight to get what he wanted, because violence was the only way he knew, escaping into anger and fantasy to vent all his frustrations out on the world; it was what his father taught him. Now Jonas is trying to be a better man for himself, for Lizzie and for Ezra; but he still believes he is the kind of man Lizzie should avoid, until she issues him a challenge. Now a legitimate businessman, it is hard for Jonas to shake off his reputation. Lizzie wonders how Jonas the drug dealer has turned into Jonas the responsible adult. Ezra has been doing a lot of business lately without Jonas, but with running Half Pipe and everything else in his life, he has been turning a blind eye. Jonas has taken care of Ezra for the past five-years, teaching him everything he knew. That is a problem now; the man Jonas was even just a year ago wasn’t thinking of his future. Having lived in Jonas’ shadow, Ezra is doing the same exact thing and Jonas doesn’t know how to help him; he is in way over his head, has a temper, is stubborn and is not exactly responsible. Jonas can fight, but Ezra has never had to, but this time Ezra has angered the one person in the world he knows he never should have and there are consequences. Putting those at Half Pipe at risk, Jonas has no option but to give Ezra an ultimatum and Ezra knows he means it. But has Jonas gone too far this time? Has he scared Lizzie one time too many times? Does she see him as a bad and dangerous man, just like he has everyone else believing, or is he so much more than a combination of rumors and hearsay? It is time to find out if there is any future for them. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

With no where else to turn to escape her hell of a home-life, Lizzie takes her half-brother up on a promise he made to her years ago. If she ever needed a place to run to, his place would be open for her.

Lizzie had no idea what to expect when she fled to her brother's. She had had little contact with him since he'd been kicked out from their home and she knew him and his long-time best friend Jonas were constantly in and out of trouble with the law. Unfortunately she had few options.

Ezra, Lizzie's half-brother offers her a place to stay, but he ends up being a total flake. She can't rely on him at all and she finds herself on her own at every turn. Jonas, the big, bad, violent, drug dealer, has always had a soft spot for Lizzie and he tries to make her life a little better day by day.

Jonas has gone legit with his drug dealings, but is still very much a thug at heart. He swings between being flirty and sexy with Lizzie, to beating someone to a bloody pulp. He does have a good heart deep down and starts to care more deeply for Lizzie, but he doesn't think he's capable of offering her anything more than a dirty roll in the sheets or a quickie in the back room.

Meanwhile Ezra falls further and further down the dangerous rabbit hole filled with smuggling, drugs, robbery, dealing and betrayal of the very people that have stood by him. Lizzie realizes that her brother is a stranger to her and is going completely off the rails, despite Jonas' offers to help.

I loved that Jonas and Lizzie accepted both the good and bad parts of each other. They balanced each other out and ended up making a very steamy and sweet couple. Will it last though amidst the danger and negativity surrounding them?

Can Jonas keep Lizzie safe while things with Ezra fly out of control? Can Lizzie put her trust in any man after all of the abuse, tragedy and sadness she has suffered at their hands? Will she stand by her dirty-talking, sexy bad boy or will she defend the brother who gave her a roof over her head?

Great bad boy romance with angst, anger, drama, smoking hot dirty talk and incredibly hot sexy times!

I read this book as part of an arc program. I really enjoyed this romance between Lizzie and Jonas. Jonas was best friends with Lizzie's older brother Ezra since they were teens and when Ezra left home because of their abusive step father, Jonas and Ezra sold weed in order to make money. Six years later, Jonas and Ezra are partnered in a cafe and a legal weed dispensary. They are trying to abide by the law, only Ezra is making deals for harder drugs and is addicted to them. When Lizzie shows up after being beaten by their step father, Ezra tells her she can stay with him and Jonas. Lizzie was in a bad accident a few years before and has kept to herself since. Jonas is attracted to Lizzie, but knows Ezra would not handle it well if he was with her, besides Lizzie thinks Jonas is a jerk. Jonas wants to help Lizzie, but the longer he is around her, the harder it is to fight his feelings. I liked this story, i thought Jonas wasn't as bad as he thought he was. Lizzie saw the good in him and made him better. Ezra was really out of hand with his addiction and they could only do so much for him. I liked how Lizzie realizes how she is not to blame for the past and is worth more to Jonas. I liked them together, they had explosive chemistry and were really hot. There is a lot of mild drug use in this book, but it is understandable because of Jonas owning a dispensary. Another good one from BB.

Ezra and Lizzie are living with their mother and abusive stepfather. Ezra is kicked out when he angers his stepfather when he turns 18. Luckily his best friend Jonas steps up and helps take care of him. Before Ezra leaves, he tells Lizzie to come to him if the stepfather ever touches her. Then Ezra and Jonas walk away.
The story jumps forward a few years when Lizzie shows up at the smoke/coffee bar owned by Ezra and Jonas. Lizzie has had a few hard years and she is finally sick of her stepfather's mistreatment. Jonas welcomes her and brings her back to the apartment shared by her brother and him. Lizzie is happy for a safe place to stay but she has conflicting feelings. She loves her brother but he pays very little attention to her. He also more interested in dealing drugs than his friend or sister. Lizzie has strong feelings for Jonas too. She is very attracted to him and he has been kind to her but he is a bad boy and used to sell drugs. Lizzie doesn't know what is the true Jonas.
Jonas is also torn. He shouldn't want his best friend's sister but he can't keep his eyes and mind of Lizzie.
This a good book but does involve drugs in the story. I felt bad for all the bad stuff Lizzie went through. I voluntarily received a copy of this story and this is my honest review.

This is a wonderfully written story that B B address some serious issues in a very tasteful way. This story is about Jonas and Lizzie along with Lizzie’s half brother, Ezra. Lizzie and Ezra have not had an easy life and Ezra leaves Lizzie as their step father is controlling and physically abusive. Years later Lizzie has tried to move on from a car crash where she lost her boyfriend and all her extensive injuries to her step dad being physically abusive towards her. Jonas finds Lizzie and reaches out to help her. As Lizzie tries to recover Ezra gets pulled into trouble and becomes someone she does not recognize. Jonas sees what’s happening and becomes concerned about how it will affect their business and his inability to be there for Lizzie. I enjoyed how Jonas remains who he is but shows that he cares for Lizzie in his own special ways! Their relationship is explosive and new and exciting for them both. This story will keep you entertained with the plot and twist and how it’s about some issues that everyday people go through! This story is an amazing read. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Lizzie was devastated when her elder half-brother, Ezra, was kicked out of their home by their abusive step-father, Royal. His best friend, Jason, was a known bad boy and drug dealer and he fascinated her and he helped Ezra cope and find a place in the real world.  Lizzie's boyfriend killed himself in a car accident and injured her badly too.  Her life is going no where, but she realises that she must get out too when Royal punches her in the face.  So she packs and goes to Ezra and Jonas's apartment.  She discovers that Jonas isn't exactly as he seems but neither is her brother.  This story is about self discovery and red hot passion between Lizzie and Jonas that you will not want to put down till you've completed the whole book.  B.B. Hamel has a way of pulling me into her stories so that I almost 'feel' as if I know the characters and feel invested in their romantic adventure.  This is why I love her books and will continue to read every new novel. So well written, believable and fun with plenty of heat.  Jonas is a dangerous man but he is oh so gorgeous too.   I received a reader’s copy of this book and voluntarily leave my honest opinion of it here.

Definitely recommended !

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Lizzie and Jonas. When this book opens up we meet Jonas as he helps Lizzie away from a yelling match between her brother and her step father. Before they leave the house Ezra Lizzie's brother tells her if she ever needs him to call him. Two years later she needs him but instead of finding him she finds his best friend Jonas. Neither of them thought they would ever see the other again after that day. However with the guys in business together and Lizzie needing to be away from the house they were destined to be near the other again. Can they find a way to have a HEA or will outside forces make sure that never happens?

This is an amazing story. It has it's ups and downs that I really want to tell you about. However I don't want to ruin the story for any other readers. I will say this book will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

5 years ago her brother made her a promise when she needed to run, he will give her his home to run to. Abusing rich stepfather beat her brother but now she’s his target in his anger. When Lizzie ran to her brother, he wasn’t there unless you count him to be stupidly high on powder for the 5 minutes you see him. But her brother didn’t show up until later but who was there in his @$$holeness self, her brother’s best friend and business partner Jonas.
Jonas has more on his plate when the girl who hunted him for more then 5 years even after her accident and her brother not caring for her nor visiting her in that time. Lizzie is broken but that don’t stop his brains thinking. She will be his mistake, her brother will kill him but her brother has another business hes hiding away with.
These two have more in common then they thought, they both broken, they love and hate red for her brother but their chemistry will be off the charts before they even kiss. Broken or not the good hearted drug dealing beast will fall for his Little Rose.

At this point, y’all know I got a damn type. And that type is Jonas. You know him. He’s the cocky asshole who rides a skateboard, smokes weed, and will fuck you up if you mess with him. Jonas is my husband 20 years old. Too smart for his own good, with a mouth to match, gets into trouble when he’s bored which is often. But you don’t see that underneath that he’s a good guy, loyal to his friends even when they are assholes and he’d give you the shirt off his back. Doesn’t mean he won’t fuck you up before that but you, can’t win them all. Also I wanna note that Jonas is a drug dealer. And no not just weed. So if your kinda judgy about that, might wanna skip this one

So yeah, I liked him. Lizzie was a trial for me though. Shit I get it, she’s been thru some stuff. But ya know what? So has everyone else. I tried to be sympathetic but I guess my give-a-damn was busted cause every time she talked about herself I caught myself saying “wah wah wah”. Still I overlooked it cause of hot skater dude. What?? *shrugs* I like them, leave me alone.

A unique storyline.

I really enjoyed this book and loved how the storyline was something new, something a little different. An illegal drug dealer gone legal drug dealer do to the new laws of California. Story mostly takes place in a coffee shop slash dispensary.
The brother goes down the wrong path of drugs and it would be interesting to hear his story but I'm not into mafia or drug smuggling storylines, so I guess I will assume my own story for Ezra.
Jonas is the bad boy brothers best friend and we all love bad boys. Jonas is no exception, you just kinda love him. He treats Lizzie well when he's not trying to stop thinking inappropriate thoughts of her. He really tries to not cross that line for Ezra's sake but there is something there that neither can deny.
The story kept me interested and the characters were loveable and others were hated as they were supposed to be. I definitely recommend this book.

I was looking for a short read and I must say I really enjoyed this one. It’s was a sad book where a set of siblings are abused by their stepfather. First the son runs away and then the daughter. She goes to find her brother but run into his best friend. She moves in with them both but soon realizes that her brother is not the same person that left her 5 years ago. She gets close to his best friend and soon they’re falling inlove. Her brother gets involved in a bad lifestyle with drugs and involved with the wrong people. And when he finds out that his sister and bestfriend are dating he kicks them out of the apartment and his life. It was a sad book and sad situations. And you can see how someone can live a better life after they’ve been abused and others that sadly struggle. But I enjoyed the happy ending that not everyone gets

Was an okay read

This was a short read. I finished it in a single day. It was a good story, but I didn't connect to my he character well. I have read other stories from this author and liked them and would continue to buy other books.
Overview. Lizzie was 14 when her brother Ezera was kicked out/leaves. Now 5 years later Lizzie goes looking for him when she leaves her mom and stepfather's home after a fight and her stepfather gave her a black eye. Lizzie shows up at half pipe the business her brother and his friend Jonas own. Jonas takes Lizzie in and helps her build confidence as her brother goes down a bad road. Ezera decides to sell different drugs from a different mafia and not their business. Jonas tries to help him get out but Ezera doesn't want to quit dealing. So Jonas buys him out of the business and keeps Lizzie since he loves her.

This was just okay for me. It wasn't as good as I've come to expect from this author though. I didn't really get a lot of chemistry between the main characters, and I felt like there was a lot of things that were inconsistent or just not resolved. Lizzie's stepdad was an abusive jerk, so she leaves. He's in the hospital later, and she "stands up" to him and her mom. Tells her mom she made her choice, and she didn't want anything to do with them. In the epilogue, she's babysitting the kids anyway, after saying it wasn't her job. Her brother is just wrote off, and it's never said what happens with him, or all the trouble he gets in. I'm a fan of this author, so I'll be checking out what's next from her.

When Lizzie runs to her brother Ezra for help after years of barely any contact, she finds herself in the comfort of Jonas, Ezra's best friend, a walking billboard of a bad man, who makes no apologies for it.
She has enough problems and knows that she should stay away from him, but the chemistry between them is off the charts.

A dark, HOT, angsty brothers best friend romance that I could not put down!
I LOVED these characters and all they had to give throughout!
Sweet, sassy and strong and oh so dirty. I swear you could feel the connection between Jonas and Lizzie coming right off my Kindle!
A unique, engaging read I could not take my eyes off this one!
I highly suggest you check out this book for yourself!

Awful

I was asked by a blogger to read this to give a review... First off, romance isn't my genre so the book already was in danger of me not liking it.

This was so stupid, so unbelievable, and I wasted brain cells reading it

The main characters all come from druggy, abusive backgrounds. Do they rise above it? I mean, kinda sorta not really.

I can't even really give a good review because it is just THAT bad.

Those who I know like romances..yeah I don't see them liking this drivel.

Sorry BB Hamel, this was just not good. I see others going gaga over your books... So I will give you the benefit of the doubt and just assume this wasn't your finest. However this doesn't make me want to read ANY of your books.

OK so this was a prett good book from BB Hamel but just didn't seem quite up to par to her previous books. I enjoyed myself and was glad I read it, but it just seemed a little young. Focuses around the skater crowd and the growing weed shops in Cali which I personally have grown out of. Otherwise, the drama, feelings and chemistry felt real as always when BB Hamel writes a book. Overall, a good story. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

This was a darker, grittier read than I expected, and I really liked it. Ezra & Lizzie are step siblings with an abusive stepdad. When Ezra is kicked out of the house, he stays with his friend Jonas. Honestly, there is so much going on in this story, I don't know where to start. Jonas is not a good guy but he sometimes does good things. Lizzie is hurt, physically & emotionally, but she is healing & getting stronger a little bit every day. Honestly, I wondered how these two could possibly have an HEA with all the crap swirling around them. This book was so different from what I was expecting - drug dealers, skaters, a bit of family violence - but it works!

I received an arc of this book and have voluntarily reviewed it.
