This is the first book I have read from this author and she blew me away. I love a good futuristic story but this book exceeded all my expectations. I was hooked on this book right from the start. These characters kept me up at all hours of the night. It only took a few hours to devour this amazing book.

This book is set in the future. There is no president anymore because now the earth is ruled by Kings. Maive Green was just a small town girl that fell in love. She thought that she had everythi

"Those who do not pay attention to history, risk its repetition."

This is a steam punk story set in the future where nothing looks like it once did yet resembles the distant past. Corrupt politics, selling of men and women to work the fields and a country that has been stripped and rebuilt in a not so fabulous way - CITY OF KINGS is a story with a strong beginning, middle and end.

The frightening thing for me, is the almost inevitable reality that if we continue to treat out neighbors the way we d

City of Kings is a second chance, friends to enemies to friends, romance novel by Bree M. Lewandowski. The story is set in April of 3034 in the former United States of America, now called Unitum Civitatem, or the United City. There was a eruption of an underground volcano in March of 2024 in the USA that caused a disastrous effect not only in the USA but all over the world, especially to countries that depended on it for goods and services. There are 50 cities now that make up the Unitum Civitat ...more

All right, people, let’s do this thing! Today I’m reviewing a second chances/dystopian romance entitled City of Kings by an up-and-coming author, Bree M. Lewandowski. She has several other books out, but this is her most recent release and the only one I’ve had the pleasure of reading… thus far. ‘Cause believe you me… I intend to check out her other works posthaste.

This was a quick read, yet it’s clear Ms. Lewandowski put a lot of love into creating her world. In fact, after I finished reading,

City of Kings is a stand-alone novel from author Bree M. Lewandowski. This is my first read from this author and I can’t wait to experience more from this author.

This is a fast-paced, quick dystopian novel with incredible world building description that you could mentally visualise in your mind while reading. This has a very captivating synopsis that immediately makes you want to delve into this world, but also can we point out the front cover of this book. There is something captivating just l

This is a fast paced dystopian novel from Bree M Lewandowski. I was enthralled with this book from the very get go, having been hooked with the synopsis before I even dove into the actual novel. I am so happy that I picked up this book. It was the perfect read to keep me entertained for an afternoon that I wanted to disappear from for a while.
Maive and Judah are the two main characters that we get to know in this book. These two just love to hate, and hate to love, each other. To me the relatio

The story City of Kings by Bree M. Lewandowski is a fantasy book set in a dystopian world. It is a story that hooked me in early on and had me turning pages to read what was going to happen next. The story takes you to a time when the world is a much different place. That includes how it is ruled. It takes place in the city of Chicago and I enjoyed the attention to detail that was given about the different places visited in the city. I felt tha
City of Kings by Bree M. Lewandowski was an fast, epic read that had my hooked.

This futuristic dystopian read is a stand-a-lone, and my first read by this author. I will say that at first I was a little put off by the writing style, it wasn't as smooth flowing as I like, but as the story moved and developed I didn't eve notice. It matched the setting and actually for me, enhanced the story as a whole.

This is a fairly quick read, told in third person you are on the outside looking in, I liked t

This 4.5* read from this author is awesomesauce. Judah has struggled over the years. Becoming a drunken mess of a soldier who just gets by he finds himself knee deep in crap and reassigned to Chicago. It's not the best of assignments but becomes even more distasteful when he sees her. Maive isn't the woman he once knew and that's quite evident seeing where he finds her. This is a great story of rekindling of love or a second chance at something they lost long ago and now have a chance to recover ...more

It took me till about half way through the 2nd chapter to really get fully invested in this story but at that point it was a done deal. This is my first book by this author and I sincerely enjoyed it and can not wait to see what else this author has available.

I love second chances for couples in my book, add in a touch of way way in the future and you have a great story. I really liked almost all of the characters in this story and even the ones I didn't l

City of Kings by Bree Lewandowski is an original and intriguing story with an enemies to lovers/second chance aspect to it. There’s also dystopian, post-apocalyptic, and steam-punk elements to this romance that gave it a uniqueness, depth and interest. It is set in a re-imagined Chicago.

I really enjoyed this book I am giving it a 4 out of five star review. The store opens up to Judah a soldier who seems to be void of emotion, makes you want to know what happened to him in his life to make him this way. His story becomes becomes interesting when he is sent off on an assignment to work for the king of Chicago. Judah is upset that he has to go back to Chicago so it makes the reader want to keep reading to find out if this is where Judah will open and tell his story . The story shi ...more

City of Kings was an incredible read by Bree M. Lewandowski, her writing was just amazing. I have not read anything by her before and she has definitely made an impression on me as a reader. The storyline was good, the flow of the story was excellent and the characters were fantastic! I loved Maive! She was a brilliant female lead, strong, courageous – I just found that I connected with her straight away. Her development over the story was strong too! J

City Of Kings by Bree M. Lewandowski is a story about your past and how it has a way of catching up with you.
Both Maive and Judah never thought they would see each other. Betrayed years ago they had no desire to see each other again. He vowed never to return to the city, she fought hard to build the life she now had.
But when circumstances force them together the past rears it’s ugly head. Old emotions surface, new ones begin to show. But will this be something they can control and come out the o

Never judge a book by it’s cover has never been a phrase I follow literally, I am at least drawn to many of the books I read because of the cover. There is something about the cover of City of Kings that caught my eye, not sure if it was the combination of red and black, the attractive couple or what called my attention but once I read the synopsis I couldn’t pass the book up.
Straight away I liked the idea of a second chance novel with a dystopian theme and Bree M. Lewandowski didn’t disappoint

Bree M. Lewandowski got herself a new fan with City of Kings. Since it is the first book I have read of hers, I was hoping it was good, but didnt have high expectations. I am happy to report, I loved it. The story was original, and well written. The characters were great, and have strong personalities and were fun to read about their past and unfolding present. It takes places in the future, and is written similar to a utopian society. There are pieces from history tied in, but also has a whole ...more

This is the first book I have read by this author and I enjoyed reading this second chance story. This is not normally the genre I read but looking at the dust cover the story intrigued me.

The story follows the lives of Maive and Judah and their love/hate relationship, they both hurt each other years ago but have been brought together, this story was a snap shot into the future and it took me a few chapters to get into the story but once I got into the story it was a page turner.

City of Kings was a good 4 star read.
This was my first read from this author and I really enjoyed it. This was a good second chance romance for Judah and Maive.

The story started out a little slow at first, it did start drawing me in once Judah and Maive saw each other. Judah was an alpha male and hooked me fairly quickly. Maive was a strong character that I really enjoyed. These two have a not so great past of betrayal but fate has brought them back together.

They had a great hot and steamy conne

Have I ever mentioned before that I like reading Dystopian books? I love everything that they have to offer. I absolutely loved what Bree M. Lewandowski did with City of Kings. I absolutely fell in love with the characters from the very beginning. They most certainly had quite a lot to offer. The world development allows the reader to submerse itself within the pages. We get to meet Judah and Maive and all that they have to offer. They definitely have history, which stems from betrayal. Unfortun ...more

City of Kings By Bree M. Lewandowski is a somewhat quick read but that doesn’t render the storyline at all. I’m not usually drawn to this type of book but the cover had me hooked and I’m so glad it did because this was an incredibly written book. In a future after oil reserves have dried, the world has reverted to generating steam out of plants as fuel. The world has become drab, and inequalities abound but love is never limited by such things. It is a tale of second chances, of paths life takes us, and mad egotistical kings. A tale beautifully woven with words, a poetic detailed story, where the images depicted burst from the page before your eyes, it's immersive and surrounds you in love, despair, the beauty of recovering history and a ...more

City of Kings is a dystopian second chance romance written by Bree M. Lewandowski. It is a short story that packs quite the punch. I was pleasantly surprised at the content and very descriptive way the story was written. Maive and Judah were once lovers, but forces separated them and betrayal and heartache were all they were left with. Fast forward a few years and they unexpectedly meet again. Tension is so palpable between them, you could cut it with a knife. The edginess was anxious yet addict ...more

I liked the characters Judah and Maive they’re whole relationship is complicated and entertaining with some sadness. The storyline was good and flowed from scene to scene with no issues. What a great read, I absolutely loved City of Kings! The two main characters - Judah and Maive - were both likeable and very well developed which made it really enjoyable to read their story! I loved seeing two equally strong characters, despite their difference in genders, and it was intriguing to learn about their past relationship while witnessing them together in the present. My favourite part of the book was the shifts in perspective; I loved this because it helped me gain a better understa ...more

Its no longer the USA. There’s no president. Every city has a King. Judah joined the military to give the love of his life the life she deserved. That dream was crushed by her and her father. This story has some serious egos in it. Cal was a complete jerk and I think he is in the closet not knowing how to get out. I had to warm up to Maive and I somewhat still don’t like her character. Marriage is suppose to mean something but everyone has their own

When I started reading this I though that it would not be something I would enjoy. However, I am so glad I kept reading because I actually throughly enjoyed reading this.

I really liked the female character Maive. I felt that she was a strong character and I thought that I connected with her. Judah was awesome too. Both the characters together had so much chemistry.

This is a second chance love story of Judah and Maive. These characters have a lot to overcome such as their past issues, Maive’s intended, and sorting out how they currently feel about each other. They both have made mistakes, but it makes them more relatable. Maive is doing what she thinks is best for everyone.Judah is brave. They were fun to read about. There was a spot in the middle that I thought that I may not like how things were going to end up.

City of Kings by Bree M. Lewandowski is a dystopian romance and a quick read, it is also a standalone but would be good to make into a series. Bree’s writing is simplistic and flows naturally without all the pomp and fuss of a lot of details overwhelming you. With strong and endearing characters Bree has written a story that crosses several genres and makes it work well. Her writing style is unique and builds a future world that is full of conflict and unrest but where a second chance at love ca ...more
