Cinere is not a standalone. It's advised to read Inferno before reading this novella.

I've always thought of myself as a damn good father.

The first three shouldn't define what you think about me. It's not my fault that they were fuck ups; I did my best with what I was given and I almost got it right.

I think I've learned enough from those mistakes to know that I'll do better this time. After all, fate has decided to bestow a beautiful baby girl on me, and she doesn't know what the others went through.

I've been doing alright with her so far. She loves me the same way she loves picking wildflowers out in the yard, but she doesn't understand that sometimes, innocent love just isn't enough.

Especially not for a man like me.

I don't tend to fail much in what I do, and I don't see the last few years as failing. I see it as learning from my missteps and becoming a better man because of it. Times are getting harder on me without someone special to warm my bed at night.

I've got another chance to do it right, and this time, I'll be the man that my little girl deserves.

Genre: Horror
Type: Book 3 of 5 from Inferno series
POV: First Person - Male
Rating:

After years of being disappointed by his family, Pater was determined to make a difference with his new one. But his past might turn out to be a hindrance he could have avoided.

I liked Pater a lot more in this one than in the previous book. It’s good to be given access to his twisted psyche. And let me just say, he is absolutely the sickest character I’ve ever read. When it comes to the horrifying aspect of the story, this book delivered it unapologetically.

It’s pretty clear that I didn’t care for Inferno, but I wanted to read this one in case there was some chance of redemption. There wasn’t. While this one isn’t as sick and twisted as Inferno (I mean, the characters are but its not described in detail here), there still seems to be no point to the plot. I don’t understand why these books were written other than to disgust the readers. I guess that makes me a bit of a masochist because I’m going to read Darby’s story 🤣 as I need to know just how this series ends. But I probably will huff and puff and throw up a little. I guess we’ll see!

So as if Inferno torture was not enough, I had to go read Cinere too!!! WTF is wrong with me 🙈
This one goes even further in subhuman behaviours. We get to hear Luke aka Pater's POV. Why was he so messed up, what did he do prior to torturing Joeclyn and now he has a daughter- Darby !
**Where the hell are child services when you need them !**
“How does a farmer always know their crops will spring from the ground? How does a gardener know that once a seed is planted, it’ll eventually bloom? I made you, Jocelyn. You’re a part of me, and I can feel you as deeply as you did with Eloy and Vaughn. It was never a trick, kiddo. Just an instinct, and you fucking fall for it every time,”

description

Anyhow, she's a cherubic angel, he's a single father cause Joeclyn is incapacitated or underground. He in his infinite generosity brings her home to spend time together as a family and the finale is the cruelest I've ever read . Like seriously the dreadful turn where she stops the story I actually threw my kindle to the wall.
He's still unapologetic, sadistic asshole whose thirst for blood and *sick* fetish isn't sated.
The way I choose to live my life with my family makes perfect sense to me—even if no one else would understand it.
Ok I can't go on any further.
Just read at your own risk !!!!

In the series timeline, five years have passed since Inferno and Pater is committed to the newest addition to his family. Narrated from Pater’s POV, the level of his deeply ingrained depravity is evident as the cycle continues.

Cinere is a chilling story crossing all lines of morality. Getting a bit more of how Pater’s mind functions was both horrifying and shocking. With the ending, I can only speculate (and hope) as to what will occur in the next book.

My burns weren't even healed from the first time and now I'm singed again. Burnt to crisp and left to wallow in my feelings alone. This Inferno Novella was so much more than just a Novella. It was hurtful. It was mean. It was muffed up. It was savage. But only in the way Yolanda can pull off, because she makes you enjoy it. You want more even though you know you shouldn't. I hurt. I hurt all over. This is gonna be another one I have a hard time getting over. Le Sigh.

If you couldnt handle Inferno steer clear of this one, because Daddy Pater is back in all his twisted glory.

I had forgotten just how scary Daddy can be, because damn him to the fires of hell he is still so evil its almost mesmerising.

Still holds first place for most evil character I have ever read. It gives me chills just thinking about him. Wide eyed and terrified, but you don't run because he'll always catch you.

Darby, she is so sweet and innocent, and such a good little girl for her daddy, and yet all I wanted to do was scream at her to run.

Short and terrifying in a way that makes your skin crawl and your mind collapse. Yolanda has shaken me to the core once again with her words.

Its haunting me. I woke up the next morning and I CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT.

On my God!!

Noooooo! Once again Yolanda blew my mind. The sadistic Pater is back, and he is evil as ever!!! You need to read book one first. It's disturbing, dark, gritty, and extremely intense. Not for the faint of heart. This has triggers, so READ with caution.

What a huge cliffhanger! I'm never ever going to forget Pater. We are picking up right where we left off on Inferno, but this is Pater's PoV. You better buckle up for another round of this sick Bast*rd!

whew. id love to know the inner workings of yolanda olson's mind at times, haha.

This series has been so ... shocking but intriguing? which makes me feel almost dirty due to the subject matter, haha.

DEFINITELY CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS!!!! This entire series has dark, twisted triggers.
but if twisted, taboo reds are your thing, you'll love this series.
Cinere is 'Pater'' POV.. and mannnnn it's dark. He justifies all his actions, and he really thinks what he does is okay.
We do get to meet Darby, and she's introduced to Joce... but the ending?! my heart stopped. ;[

I won't be able to stop reading this series.

Not sure how to rate this as it felt that I had just started reading and then it was over.

Continuing on with the same theme from previous book. All kinds of fuckery going on up in here.

WHAT. THE. FUCK. PATER? OMG!

Seriously, how old is this guy? He should be dead surely? Or at least a crippled old man. 😂

Omg! How many chances does she have to kill him yet she fails to go through with them every time! I have less and less sympathy for Jocelyn every time.
Let me just say, I am 100% on her side over his, but COME ON!.... this woman has literally no fight. Shes fickle.l and useless. She does things without thinking or following it through and then gets herself (and others, evidently) in more trouble every time. Did she not learn with her brothers?!? Kill the bastard, take that knife, stab it in to his goddamn jugular and bathe in his blood. Piss on his corpse and set it on fire until he's nothing more than worthless ash.

Darby had better grow up to be a badass who does exactly this ☝️☝️ and not a useless twat like her mother.

Warning: this is not an easy read, absolutely not. That ending shocked me to the core and I don't want anyone going into this without warning. So you have been warned. If you know Yolanda then you know what she is capable of

Daddy's Little Girls...

OMG Yolanda has done it again. I can't believe she brought Pater back in this novella, the way she did. I WANT MORE! You can't give us a snippet and thank it's ok. I'm jonesing for Daddy.

Cinere is a novella about Pater and how his little girl's been living, since Inferno. He wants his daughters to follow his rules but when his oldest doesn't, he gives out the ultimate punishment. Jump a few years and the oldest is still punished, while her sister loves her daddy. When Pater decides to give his oldest a gift, she takes it and mess it up. He is disappointed and deals with it accordingly, while his youngest still loves her daddy and will do anything for him.

I freaking love this book and I WAMT MORE.

Well my my my.... let’s take a trip back to Pater’s house. As you know (if you have read Inferno) that this is bad news!!! Seriously no one wants to be at Pater’s house. Especially if your his kids... and this picks up a few years after Inferno. And Pater has a new recruit.
I’ve never been so violently mad and yet so ridiculously obsessed with what’s going to happen next. This is not a book for the faint of heart. If you have “triggers” this is probably not the book for you. This was definitely one of the ones I didn’t want to end the way it did! I definitely tossed my kindle around.

Cinere is a novella written for all the NEED TO KNOW what happened NEXT Inferno fans!!
Cinere is the book that gives us the answers to what happened next but also leaves us with even more questions and just wanting more and more of Pater, Jocelyn and Darby's story.
It is a messed up thrill ride and one not to miss.
I counted the days down until release!! Inferno is one of my absolute favorite books so I was thrilled to have a novella that delved back into the dark crazy world that is Pater!!
A MUST READ!!!

oh my daddy....these fucking books. I knew it was a novella so I was prepared for it to short but God I want so much more of this. This series is easily some of the most fucked up depraved shit I have ever read and I looooove it. I cannot wait to get my hands on the other books in this world, specifically Sparks :o

I think this would be my fav out of the other parts- and I dunno what that makes me. I felt Jocelyn to be the most strongest out of all the females that were introduced in the series. I didn't knew horror genre could be this bad- I've never read this kind of books but I'm glad to be introduced into this genre.

I read Inferno and Cinere back to back and I think for the first time I have to say it just wasn't for me. I hated Pater and the book just left me feeling gross. The writing was very good though.

Daddy Pater welcomes you back

***Before you read Cinere you have to first read Inferno, so if you haven't already read Inferno do it now.***

Just when you thought it was bad it gets worse, because Daddy is back!! Pater is back to tell his story, in his words. If you are expecting rainbows and unicorns and happily ever after then you are sorely mistaken. This is a Yolanda Olson book people!! I never thought I could hate a character this much, but Pater is the ultimate evil. He is the devil's more evil twin. This book just proves the brilliance that is Yolanda Olson, that she can create a character so vile and evil yet still draws readers to his story again and again. Cinere is a blood chilling, stomach churning, 5 star read.

Disturbingly twisted and fascinating.

I must preface what I’m about to say with this: I’m 100% on Joce’s side. The father is insane.
Now, wtf is wrooooong with Joce? Seriously, she’s dumb as a box of rocks, with zero self preservation. If she’s not going to be self aware, not going to be strong enough to fight her way out of a situation, then play the game and go for the long goal.
Ugh. Stupid. Frustrating! And, my emotions just show the author did a great job drawing me in to her story. ;)
One thing I really, really wish could be fixed; the 188 *that’s which were used. Holy eff, 99% of them could go. Read a sentence without using *‘that’, and it will most assuredly read more clearly and with better poignancy; especially when there’s more than one *‘that’ in the same sentence.
