In his youth the author was a surrealist painter (acquainted with Salvador Dali and Marcel Duchamp); a theatrical costume dresser for Cliff Richard, Jimmy Jewel and Ken Dodd; a BBC Scenic Artist, Set & Costume Designer and actor in theatre and film, a stuntman and singer, world-traveller, zoo-keeper, art teacher, deckhand, street portraitist and many other weird and wonderful occupations during seven years of hitchhiking halfway round the world. As the founder of Gandalf’s Garden community and Magazine, he was considered a British spiritual cult hero in the Sixties.

He is a practised storyteller and resembles a cross between Gandalf and Dumbledore, as you will see in the book trailer video (which is greatly appealing to children).

Because of his many years of vagabondage—sleeping under the bridges with tramps in Paris, working as an elephant-trainer (Tel Aviv) and Night-club singer (Acco); a rock-driller in King Solomon’s mines (Timna, Israeli desert); trekking down Africa (being shot at by bandits, surviving knife attacks, hold-ups, poisoned darts and earthquakes), crossing deserts, living with the Dervishes in Turkey and Iran, living three years as a wandering monk in India, and clinging to the outside of an express train for 10 hours through the night—he is described in the mystic trade journals as ‘the Indiana Jones of Yoga.’

Known as Ramana Baba in India, Muz Murray is a respected spiritual master and mantra yogi and one of the rare westerners to have experienced Cosmic Consciousness, Samadhi and NDE. He has 45 years experience of teaching Mantra and Advaita Vedanta in many countries, including Britain, Ireland, France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Spain, Mallorca, Portugal, Italy, Israel, India, Taiwan, Canada and the USA.

He now enjoys life as a hermit in the hills of southern Portugal, writing his books and hacking out a garden from the wilderness.

A joyous compendium on some of the biggest universal mysteries. Muz Murray’s book works like spiritual smelling salts awakening you to the question of who we actually are, and what is this thing we call “mind”. This book is a brilliant introduction to the teachings of Advaita. There are many hidden gems and I am totally confident that if you flick to any page you are sure to strike some form of spiritual gold. As you work through the book Muz helps to keep guiding you back to the source. Many have said “not for the faint hearted” and I agree this book does pack a reality punch but do not fear, you are guided with warmth, love and true compassion. The books style is very immediate, honest and full of humour. It does what it says on the label “secrets of the sages made simple”
Thank you for writing this book Muz Murray .

"WE ARE SUCH STUFF AS DREAMS ARE MADE ON,
AND OUR LITTLE LIFE IS ROUNDED WITH A SLEEP."
In these latter years that my physical body finds itself in, my nightly dreams have become more vivid than I have ever experienced before. My dream body is always in my mid-thirties and in perfect health, the kind of body that the Abrahamic religions promise us we’ll have in their Heavens. One dream caused me a lot of joy followed by a deep pain. A young Tibetan woman had chosen to live with me, making me intensely happy and deeply in love. The dream seemed to last for maybe three weeks, before, she decides to move on, leaving me heartbroken. My waking self is left feeling the pain of a genuine loss, I get flashbacks of the dream every now and then, making it feel like a real memory.
Muz Murray in his book, YOU ARE THE LIGHT: SECRETS OF THE SAGES MADE SIMPLE, delves deeply into the nature of dream. He believes that our dream self is as real as our daily dream self, in fact possibly more real as we can become as God, creating the people and places that this dream self walks through. I find myself believing that this is possibly the case and when this body I have now finally wears out, then I’ll find myself in a new and glorious dream. To quote the Bard, “For in that sleep of death what dreams may come…”
Maz’s book gives the reader simple interpretations of concepts that the sages have spoken of for thousands of years. It’s a book that needs time for consideration, not a page turner by any means but I found myself absorbed by it and not wanting to skim a word. There is spiritual gold here for you to dig out with very little effort on your part, the master has done the digging for you. Forty-five years of travel and study have been distilled into short well focused chapters, and I think you’ll benefit from the wisdom you’ll find.

A Book that takes away sleep and Awakens you!
Anyone who does not want to do any PRACTICAL work on himself, or question himself, had best keep away from this book, because it could be dangerous! This text is not aimed at those who just read three pages of anything every night because they cannot get to sleep. On the contrary, if its contents are really understood… it is a book that takes away sleep and awakens you. Through a lively dialogue, sometimes raw, and certainly out of the conventional style of spiritual schemes and false myths, it encourages a voluntary desire for personal growth, or to say it better, it is a book that speaks of "inner work" and is directed to those who feel the need to evolve ... to grow ... to go beyond the limits of the current "humanity".What is the shortest way that leads to the realization? You can choose the path that suits you best, but your seriousness will determine your progress. Reading this Manual of Awakening of the Consciousness, it is evident that besides our studying in depth the content of the book, the author invites us to apply the principles that are exposed in it in our lives, according to our own capabilities. My advice is to buy it as you would buy a "magical" object to always keep at hand; opening it "random" and reading a few lines will serve to remind you that you are working on yourself, that you have attracted the reality that you observe right now in your life, and that you can change it by changing yourself. The purpose of this book is to make you constantly return to the Centre ... whether you want to or not! "It has helped me to understand many things and I confess that I have read it several times and each time I received new ideas and new ideas!

Experience, Compassion, and Wisdom Shine Through on Every Page!

This lively and accessible book is a fine introduction to the teaching and practice of Advaita—the nondual teaching that we all are the one Self. Muz Murray—or Ramana Baba—is a deeply experienced teacher who has been a guide to seekers for decades in Europe and in India. His realization of nonduality shines through each page, and we hear the voice of experience in how he wisely and compassionately addresses the concerns raised by his students and other inquirers.

The format of the book is innovative. The material is of many types: short articles, answers to questions in emails, responses to questions in satsangs in India and elsewhere. All of this is linked together by using the letters of the alphabet as an organizing principle. This allows to reader to dip into the book at any point and for as long as one likes. No matter where one starts, the reader will quickly encounter the voice of an experienced and compassionate guide.

Ramana Baba is at his best when helping his readers and hearers to see directly that they are in fact the one Self right now, and this book shows clearly that he knows how to evoke this standpoint in those who attend to his teaching.

If you are curious about Advaita or want to recognize that you are already in the nondual state—although the conscious mind and conventional belief keeps getting in your way—then this book is for you.

You Are the Light by Muz Murray
Muz Murray, a celebrated British mystic and spiritual mentor, known for founding London's Gandalf's Garden in the Sixties, delivers an electrifying and highly practical guide in You Are the Light. Murray promises a path to Enlightenment that bypasses the need for years of meditation, drawing on a lifetime of unique experiences, including cosmic consciousness and near-death states, to clarify the deepest spiritual mysteries. This isn't a book to study; it's a refreshing, easy-to-read tool that cuts through 'spiritual claptrap,' tackling complex topics from Free Will and the Ego to Self-Realization in surprisingly clear and astonishing ways. Laid out in alphabetical order for quick reference, You Are the Light offers actionable wisdom designed to clarify muddled thinking, uplift your experience of existence, and help keep your sanity in a chaotic world. For the independent spiritual hero seeking direct alignment with their true nature, this life-changing book is the guide many readers wish they had discovered years ago.

Europe’s answer to Eckhart Tolle!

I hardly know how to thank Muz Murray enough for his superb sharing in his new book "You are the Light!" It is a perfect and practical tool for all Truth seekers. His unique and simply explained answers to many misunderstood spiritual notions are eye-opening. I found it an invaluable tool that will help yoga teachers to transmit the Knowledge of Ultimate Reality. The Alphabetical order of subjects will make their work much easier.
Reading this book, no one will be able to ignore what is truly essential in life.

Congratulations and heartfelt thanks. Madhu Devi

A Book to Treasure!
This is a book to treasure, to read and return to time and time again. Here Muz shares his vast spiritual knowledge in easy to read sections, arranged alphabetically for easy reference, in the form of questions put to him, and his in depth answers.
These include subjects such as God, Karma, Consciousness, Ego, Samadhi, Death, Self-Realisation, Illusion, Beingness, Mantra, Prana, Heart Centre, Prayer, Soul, Enlightenment, Omnipresence, and Time, to name but a few!
I don’t think that Muz ever speaks but from the heart and with great wisdom. I found this to be an excellent book.

The author has beautifully simplified every subject so that readers can easily understand the true essence of Being. This "must read book" sets out to unfold our true connection to life, soul, spirit, nature and the whole universe, and wonderfully fulfills its objective. It also validates the natural occurrence of NDE and ADE and sheds light on many puzzling questions regarding mystical experience that confuse many vision seekers.

This book serves us well as a lifetime of spiritual knowledge is here shared by a truly exceptional, radiant, unique and immensely gifted individual. Thank you Muz Murray, I am forever grateful.

A book i dip in and out of often and one that i would highly reccomend.
Full of wisdom, put simply and with humour.
I love Muz's thoughts on Oughtism, " Doing what you ought to do brings you no reward it only
cultivates resentment." "With every ought you sell yourself short" " Do what your heart feels right to do, not your head or your social conditioning"
And on the page titled " Weapons of mass construction" i again quote " There is only one you, no need for comparisons, stop trying to be something ( you already are) and simply be.
How true !
