Bailey Wulfe has her blinders on, her focus straight forward, tromping through life to the future that has been planned for her since she was Turned. She’s been promised to a high-ranking wolf in her Clan, but one chance encounter with a familiar face and she’s questioning everything she’s ever wanted. The boy she knew as a child has turned into a monstrous man. And from the looks of Rike, his bloodline will be the death of him and everyone he encounters. Maybe she can stop his freefall…if only she can get him to remember her.
Rike Blackwood needs one thing to go right. His brother is a traitor and has run off, his Alpha is in transition after losing half his Clan, and Rike’s own last name is poisoning him from the inside out. One steady day is all he needs, but while his Clan is coming out to the public that they are shifters, a sassy little she-wolf claims they’ve been married before. Nice try, Little Wolf. He would’ve remembered being married, but she does look familiar. And now he can’t seem to stop hunting her. They say curiosity killed the cat, but this time, it just might kill a crow, too.
Content Warning: Explicit love scenes, naughty language, and piles of sexy shifter secrets. Intended for mature audiences.

THIS…this… this is why I read, no devour the sub-genre of Paranormal Romance aka Shifter Romance. This story is why I will read every book written by T. S. Joyce – I’ll even read her grocery lists, because she gives me absolutely everything I look for in a shifter romance. And if you haven’t discovered her by now… what the heck are you waiting for?
Rike is the Second in the Red Dead Mayhem crew. His past is filled with the murderous monster that was his father, or at least what he can remember of his younger years. His brother has betrayed the clan and the humans have discovered that shifters exist. What more can go wrong? How about a blast from his past, the part he doesn’t remember.
Bailey was promised in an arranged mating to the Second in her father’s clan. As the only female, well made female, her pairing with Samuel is merely a pack move. Neither care a fig for the other, and that’s obvious when Samuel brings his side piece to the clubhouse when Bailey is there. In truth, Bailey could care less emotionally, it’s the disrespect he shows to her that sets her off on a journey she never expected to take… that and finding Brandon or Rike again. The crow she’d loved, that she’d been hand-fasted with, the man she’d always love above all others – even when he made her mad as a hornet. Her love for Rike never died, it got bruised certainly, but one day with him and it all came flooding back. Now she has a choice to make. A loveless mating with a jerk and her pack or a life with the crow she’ll always love. Both choices have challenges to them but only one is right for Bailey.
I absolutely loved For the Blood of a Crow. It’s one of my top five favorites across all of T.S. Joyce’s series. And this one just made the Red Dead Mayhem series one I”ll watch closely for the possibilities here are boundless. Bailey and Rike are the other halves of one soul. It’s obvious from the start that they are destined – they just have to figure out how to make that possible with what the years in-between have brought to them both. I loved the connections between this series and the Outlaw Shifters series – love all the ladies in their unique craziness and “charm”. If I could give this story 10 stars I’d do it in a heartbeat. If you love Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance then you’d get caught up in this story so easily. Yes, it’s a connecting series and I’ll always suggest reading from the beginning. Yet for the pure joy of this story – I say dive right in and completely enjoy the visit.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
‘For the blood of a crow’ is the second book in the ‘Red Dead Mayhem’ series and after reading and enjoying the first book I couldn’t wait to read this one. I would recommend that you start with the first book before reading this one. Because the story goes further with things that happened in the first book.
Just like ‘For the hope of a crow’ this story is a quick, fun, sexy, light but still emotional, entertaining story. Perfect if you like dominant, bad men and sassy, loveable women and just want to escape from the world for a few hours. The story is again a novella-length story and the story is told from both POV’s. This story is about Rike, the second in command of the clan of crow shifters and Baily, an albino wolf. I really enjoyed the banter between them and the chemistry. Rike is this hot, tattooed, bad boy MC member and Bailey is this spitfire woman who’s very loyal to the people that she loves. It was very emotional to read about their childhood together and their love. Their shared past and what happened to Rike in his childhood was slowly revealed bit by bit. The present and the past were perfectly combined in this story.
In this story, we got to see more of the different shifters clans that lived around the town where the clan of crow shifters lived and it was great and interesting to see how slowly the different clans of shifters are becoming friends.
I’m really enjoying this paranormal series and I’m already looking forward to reading more of this series.
These stories are my guilty pleasure. The kind of book you read without having to put to much effort into.
I've left this series in my backlog after reading Ramsey's book because I was just hanging on through the month waiting for every release. Now having finally got a few to catch up on I figured I pick up where I left off.
Though I will say I had to ignore Bailey's name because its just pain weird reading about a women character who has the same name as my four year old son!.
I loved Rike and Bailey together!. It's a second chance romance with lots of twists and turns. Their journey isn't easy and they have a lot of fire behind them making it so much harder but still that ending!. I love getting to see different sides to both their characters. I also love that with these stories not only do you get solid main characters... you also get a bunch of crazy great side characters just to keep things interesting.
Stories like this are why I love sub genres! And paranormal happens to be one of my favourites!!.
I cannot wait for what's next so without further ado....
Holy crap this threw me for a loop! Anyone else? Wow this was really something and I totally loved it. I love when she throws us a curve ball. There might be a spoiler or 2 so be warned!
Bailey and Rike know each other. They were married....or hand-fasted more specifically. Years ago. Rike's Dad was a terrible dude. He did so many things to so many people. A killer. It was assumed his sons Ethan and Rike were the same. Bailey knew different though but still he left. Now Rike is a lot messed up and he doesnt remember her. Doesnt remember anything of his past. Just that he's a monster. She doesnt understand and she's got a lot of anger towards him. She's set to be mated and starting her new life with her betrothed. Running into Rike again messes with her head. A lot of things are happening with the shifters being outed. I'll not say anything more but I love love Ramsey and OMG that was sooo cute Vina wanting Bailey to be her friend. She cracks me up and still makes ya smile. She is awesome! I cant wait til the next book and hopefully a HEA for Ethan too. Poor guy.
Awesome book! I can never decide which one of T. S. Joyce books is my favorite... this one has just added to that dilemma. Such a rich and layered world she has created. All connected but each able to stand on its own. The crows are magnificent and such an unlikely group of big, beastly monsters. Love, love, love them! Riker is a softie with a wicked dark underside and Bailey is a perfect balance. The females in this world are some of the best written...no two are alike and, thank god, they’re not all submissive. One again, LOVE this book and I can’t wait for the next!
There was still some crazy stuff going on in the background of this one, fallout from the last book. Interviews at the Clubhouse seemed like a bad idea all around and sure enough there was all sorts of dust ups. But the best thing about this was how Bailey and Rike ended up in the same area. These two had a past, a sweet one and a horrible one. I liked how they faced both of them and fought to get back to the sweet, both of them deserved it!
On a side note, how fun was the girls night out. I think all of them really needed it!
It's really hard for most series to get even better
It's really hard for most series to get even better with each addition but T. S. Joyce makes it look easy. This book left me raw from all the feelings. I cried, I laughed so hard but even more deeply it left me feeling hopeful. I cried thinking about all that Rike had endured and the pain of it all coming back. I wish I could have given it more stars! This book truly had everything you could ask for in a phenomenal read. I can't wait to see where she takes us on this journey with the Red Dead Mayhem crows but I know it will be epic.
Bailey is an albino, bravo! It’s not important it’s just wonderful to have all kinds of people represented. I liked Bailey & Rike together. The wolf & the moose making friends was hilarious. I loved Bailey standing up to her dad. The clan is getting its personality. Yeah!
I dint have much to say here.... My favorite of the series soo far is what I’d call its “cousin” series ,with Hairpin,Peacemaker/Warmaker etc. was Ten’s story ,and while I haven’t connected with Ramsey or Rike like I did Ten, I think this I a good series and would definitely recommend it.... Looking forward to Ethan and especially what kind of animal he attracts, with squirrels and Moose’s and wolves O my :)
It seems as if I started reading this book in the middle. Things like history and relationships are existing, but not explained. Actions are taken, but without clear reasons. Consequences are hazy at best, and the one underlying driving force from the first Crow book: who bugged the clubhouse? seems to be a very weak one. Who cares who bugged them? I want to know how all these people/animals can inter-relate. Were-squirrels? Crows more powerful than wolves? Not enough exposition. Spent more time thinking WTF is really going on (and never really finding out) than getting drawn into the emotions and interactions of the characters enough to care about them. Lots of potential here, but things just seem to drift off without real resolution.
Urghhhh, seriously? Well,we didn't get much story again and as if that weren't enough we didn't get much romance as this relationship started and was completed when they were teens. So we didn't get to see them fall in love. It was a one night stand the day after they saw each other again that morphed straight into forever after. There was no build-up. We got a bit of conflict with the wulfs, but even that made no sense and was over quickly. If she was cut off, she was supposed to be totally ignored, not hunted. Her alpha stepfather might be a tool, but I would not see him forgiving them hunting down his child. Not that we get to find out what brought that about or what those left paid for their choice. Nor did we hear a thing about the bug that Time found at the start of the book. Nothing. We didn't get to see what the interviews were like outside the first barely one. When the crows were whooping and hollering, it would have been nice to know why. Another rushed story. We never really got a chance to get to know this couple, which is too bad because I liked what I saw, but the author is making it hard for us to fall in love with her characters like she used to do. It's too bad.
Brandon "Rike" Blackwood, the second-in-command of the Red Dead Mayhem Clan just wanted one thing to go right. After his bother Ethan's treachery, his clan suffered a major hit. His Alpha Ramsey was in transition after losing half his Crows.
While all that was going on, his clan was coming out to the public about them being shifters. His bloodline is killig him from the inside, then his life took a 180 turm when a she-wolf walked into his life.
She claimed they were married before but he wasn't going to take her word for it cause he would remrmber her if that was the case, right!?
"So why did she look and feel so familiar?!"
Bailey Wulfe, a White Wolf shifter and daughter of the Alpha of the Wulfe Clan. She worked at Hot Buns Catering, the company Vina (FOR THE HOPE OF A CROW) used for the event the clan was having. She was promised to a high-ranking wolf in her Clan but when her past walked back into her life in the form of a sexy as sin Adonis she never thought she would see again. She started questioning everything.
"He still got to me."
But he didn't remember her, she wondered what really happened to him. One thing she knew for certain was that Rike's bloodline was killing him. She walked away from the life she thought she had to lead and she couldn't be happier.
No matter what happened Rike the man and the Crow were drawn to the little sassy and fierce wolf. She awakened a part of him he never wanted to explore before. They decided to give themselves a second chance.
What a delightful treat it was to see the Two Claws Clan and the New Darby Clan there supporting the Crows. Liked that the women of the three clans were becoming friends.
Bailey and Rike finally got their HEA. She helped him break that Blackwood curse and when the enemies thought they would win. haa the outlaws showed them why they were called monsters ;).
FOR THE BLOOD OF A CROW is the second installment in T. S. Joyce's RED DEAD MAYHEM series. It was outstanding, breathtakingly captivating and oh so irresistible.
Once again this incredible and amazing author captured my heart with her flawed characters with a heart of gold. 5++++
P. S. Looking forward to the next installment. This series keeps getting better and better with each book.
FYI, this is technically a spin-off of the Outlaw Shifters series. I read this independently of the Outlaw books and did not mind being introduced to the "old" characters from this perspective. But if that is something that would bother you, I recommend starting with For the Love of an Outlaw.
These are short and fun shifter romance series. Bad guy/good girl dynamic between the hero and heroine. I found the series to be low angst and have moderate plots. Loved the unique "pack" dynamic for the crow shifters. The "pack" are all members of the Red Dead Mayhem motorcycle club, but I thought overall it didn't read as an MC romance. The MC really just was a way to hide or explain their "pack" to the neighboring humans before they were exposed. The books do not have MC culture, illegal activity, or problematic content that can be seen in MC books.
Rike Blackwood is trying to do the right thing. He supported his Alpha, Ramsey, when he went crazy, but he lost his brother in the process. His past is as much a blank spot in his memory as it torments him. He thinks it is just a matter of time until his blood poisons him from the inside. But then he bumps into Bailey Wulf, the curious shifter that he doesn't know, or does he? Bailey has all the answers to a past that has stayed hidden for too long. But once he remembers, will his past destroy what is left of his control or will he fight for the future his brother and Crow stole from him?
FOR THE BLOOD OF THE CROW - This story had my undivided attention until the blissful happily ever after. Inside; humor, action, gripping suspense, moments that tug your heartstrings, horrific danger, life-threatening moments and romance that sizzles.
Rike a powerful crow shifter has bone-chilling memories that haunt him. A feisty wolf beauty from his past re-enters his life. Rike has no memory of the past she mentions when they meet after years apart. Bailey's dad alpha of her pack has blueprinted her life which leaves Bailey settling without true love. When memories of the past come crashing down on Rike protecting Bailey becomes a priority. Conquering obstacles is a must to get to their deserved happily ever after.
STIRRING read. Rike is ferocious and his protective nature proves he is definitely a force of nature. Bailey's unconditional love for Rike calms the deep seeded rage inside him. I loved these two together and their chemistry is sincere. Praiseworthy characters come alive with dynamic vivid scene descriptions and great dialogue. I found this story to be a most gratifying read. Without reservations, I recommend this book.
What I liked - As is usual of T.S. Joyce books, the characters were great and hilarious. The humor in these books is perfect. The makeshift family thing is what makes these books, including this one, as good as they are. The solidarity, friendships, and love are strong and overwhelming and amazing.
What I didn't like - Samuel being a blatant unrepentant cheater, though I know he's not the main male character in this book. The way it happened and the words used regarding the cheating were crass and it shouldn't have played out that way in a romance. Rike's inner thoughts/talk about how he liked sex and the fact that neither waited for the other nearly ruined this book. It makes the bond appear not as strong as it could have. So instead of waiting, they were both with other people, which is pretty gross. The crow chasers are also pretty gross.
Overall - It, and the other T.S. Joyce books, are great, sweet, funny short-ish books with the best makeshift families and humor, but the romance needs to be enhanced by not having past sexual partners being mentioned and with less crass language regarding sex because it makes the non-main character sex sound more involved and too intimate and the main character sex sound cheap.
This is the second book in this series and they should be read in order. Rike is second of the Red Dead Mayhem. The clan is still recovering from near destruction. Rike is being poisoned from the inside out after his brother betrayed the clan and coming out to the public isn’t helping. He needs just one day turns out today isn’t going to be that day. Bailey has been living her life with blinders on. After running into the boy from her childhood she is questioning everything. Rike is a mess but he is living his life his way. Bailey longs to just do what she wants. When she thinks about it she has been living her life the way others want her to. She is promised to a high-ranking member of her pack. She remembers Rike and their childhood, but he doesn’t. She is curious why he doesn’t seem to remember her and makes her feel even more alone. There is just something about Bailey that draws Rike to her even when it is probably best he left her be. Another fantastic book by T.S. Joyce. The crows are her current series in progress. I can’t get enough of her books and I am loving the Crows. This book has mystery, hot alpha shifters, and more. I highly recommend this and all her books.
Quick Info Standalone/Cliffhanger?: Standalone Part of a Series?: Yes ---------------------------------- Meeting the Characters Bailey Rike ---------------------------------- What happens? Bailey and Rike were mated during their youth, her father broke the bond because he hated the crows and wanted Bailey to marry another wolf. Rike doesn't remember anything of his past, so when he meets Bailey he knows he wants her but doesn't know why she is so familiar. When his memories of their life together start to come back he wants to run again to prevent him from hurting his girl again. Final thoughts This was great. I really enjoyed reading this and Bailey was fab. She stood up to her step dad for her other half and that was sweet. Rike was the usual tortured soul but his character was interesting and made it worth reading. Would I read again?: Yes Would I read this author again?: Yes
A short length book that works well enough with a second chance romance. For the Blood of a Crow doesn't feel too shallow or fast paced for the story it presented.
Bailey and Rike sharing a past really helps with the shallow holes that tend to develop when it's a short story. It doesn't end up looking like insta-love but the choppiness between the transition of going from just getting reacquainted to lovey dovey actions is just a tad bit harsh. The book otherwise has a decent amount of details added to flesh out the past for our main characters with a end that is good enough for the length.
I'm not really sure if the whole "shifters being outed" arc is being utilised well in the series as this is just the second book but hopefully it gets the attention it deserves as it's definitely a great backdrop for the romance taking place.
Like sticking all the right puzzle pieces together to get the whole picture!
Second book in the Red Dead Mayhem and it focuses on the new second Rike! Rike comes from a ‘dark’ bloodline, so he stays away from most people so that he doesn’t ruin them. But when a chance meeting with a wolf brings forth memories from a past his crow has blocked out....he questions everything he knew! Bailey knew as a wolf, that the crows are their enemies but that doesn’t stop her from talking to the boy who stole her heart years ago and then disappeared one night, never to return. When she realises she is settling for a claiming in her Clan to a man she doesn’t love, she does the only thing she can!
Loved this story and I can’t wait to see who is next:) Also happy to revisit with most of our favourite characters from past books!
Firstly please note you will need to have atleast read the first book of this series before reading this one . Some would say you need to have read others too as it appears all of the shifter stories by this author are within the same world , however this is the first series I’ve delved into and I’m happy to have started here . So this book is about rike and Bailey . Bailey is a white wolf and rike Carrie’s the darkness of his late father and is very black . Bailey and rike found and chose each-other very young though - but because of the darkness and his father his crow hid the memory of her from him . This is their second chance . This book is a quick read but it’s well written and this clan and shifted world is addictive and captivating . I’m enjoying the series and looking forward to reading the next one !
I rarely like second chance romances so that's probably part of the reason I didn't enjoy this one as much as I normally do with TS Joyce.
The reason these two split was totally understandable and I got it but I just never connected with them.
I also wanted more back story on where Rike had been, what he'd gone through etc and more about Bailey with her "betrothed/friend with benefits". Like... was she banging him after she found out he was cheating or did she stop? It rubs me wrong not knowing. Like I just couldn't root for her not knowing if she was someone who put up with that. I want to root for my main characters you know?
Hopefully the next one will be back to what I look forward to with one of my favorite authors *shrug* can't like um all I guess.
The author really put it down on this book. It’s just a pull on your heart. Rike and his brother Ethan have suffered something awful because of their father. Now Ethan has left Rike and it’s hard. Ramsey the Alpha is trying to re-bond with the remaining crows and with Rike as his second. Rike is struggling still with an unknown past and it’s hurting him and his crow. Ramsey has redeemed himself in my eyes now. At about 91 percent in this book, there is a page that is so beautiful, the meaning, the outcome for the clan. I wanted to quote some of the details here but it would spoil too much, so just know that Ramsey is improving in this story and in the last Two Claw bear clan book to be the Alpha that deserves his people. Read on!
This KU library selection is a great addition to the Red Dead Mayhem series. I've found that Joyce's books are almost impossible to put down once started, and this was no exception. After an attempted coup, Rike is now Ramsey's second. At a "coming out" event with the press, Rike encounters a young woman who claims to be his former wife. He doesn't remember her or being married, especially to a wolf. But then his memories begin to return. His father was an out of control murderer and Rike is headed down the same path. Bailey Wulfe has the potential to change that path, if he doesn't take her down with him.
For the Blood of a Crow by TS Joyce is the second book in the Red Dead Mayhem Crew and is a 5 star read. I love everything that T writes, her books are automatic one click before I even read the blurb. Rike and Bailey have a past but Bailey is the only one who remembers it, but once they meet again it all starts to come back to Rike and part of him want to run to keep protecting her, but love has a way of keeping you where you need to be. Another of T’s shifters holds my heart and has since the first time I read about him, but Rike is as if this moment my 2nd favourite. I don’t know how you do it T but you are one bad a$$ writer and I’m glad to be part of your crew.
