I really enjoyed this book. It has a great story and likeable characters. Better than a lot of books I have read by big-name authors. I hope there will be a sequel in the future.

First, the negatives...

I had two main problems with the book (although the first may well have been out of the authors control):

- The formatting. I read an Amazon Print-on-Demand edition and there was little in the way of margins, with text stretching to the edges of the page. This made the book more difficult to read than it needed to be. And towards the end there were extra blank pages between some chapters, which didn't appear between earlier chapters. And the title for the Epilogue was on a single line at the bottom of the page, with no break from the preceding chapter. It was odd.

- The editing. The book was edited by the author, and it shows in a couple of places. For any future books, getting another pair of eyes to edit can only improve the book.

But the positives definitely outweigh the negatives.

- The book is dark, but not gratuitous. There are some horrific things that happen, but they make the ending more satisfying.

- The characters are well defined, with a delightfully corrupt and obscene villain.

- The plot clips along at a satisfying pace, with some excellent cinematic moments, and a very intriguing attitude to AI.

All in all, I'd probably rate this a solid 3.5-4 stars, but I've knocked it down a bit for the negatives, which detracted from the immersion.

Definitely a solid debut and well worth a read.

A truly incredible story

I downloaded this book through Kindle Unlimted to support a new author from one of my Facebook groups. Thank you Mr. Downie for writing such an awesome book. It was so good that I took time away working on my next writing project to finish it. I can't wait for your next book.
