“Teeny tiny ugly wugly!” All the animals are laughing at a little warthog called Buttercup. But Forget-Me-Not is SURE that his new friend is special. How can he make the other animals see how beautiful she truly is?
Forget-Me-Not: Beautiful Buttercup- Author and Illustrator Michael Broad.
This book is about an elephant, named forget-me-not, who becomes friends with a warthog, buttercup, who was being teased by her brothers and other animals because of how different she looked. For-get-me not stood up to all the animals that made fun of Buttercup and loved all the little things that made her who she is. Buttercup learned to love herself when she was able to lead the animals through the mountains on the right path.
The content of this book focuses on how everyone is different and that is okay.
This book can be utilized to teach children about acceptance.
Beautiful Buttercup is about a friendship that blossoms when an elephant chooses to befriend a warthog who is being made fun of. As other animals look onto these two and their awkward friendship they continue to find the positiveness in one another. The story takes a twist that shows their trust in their friendship. The content of this book focuses on S/E skills and concepts such as acceptance, self-awareness, self-control, and relationship building. I would use this book in the classroom to give the children an idea of what a healthy friendship came seem like. I would then have the children draw a picture of a one of their peers and share something nice about them
I couldn't find a review for this book. I really enjoyed it, though! I can't wait to read it to my Kindergarteners next year. It will be a good book to read at the beginning of the year when talking about friendship and being kind to each other.
