"Deceit" is the six crime thriller from writer Kerry Barnes that is perfect for fans of Jacqui Rose, Kimberley Chambers, and Martina Cole. Many of her books feature stories that have their basis in gangs and the "laws" of gangland warfare and the lifestyle that comes as a result. Her background is in science, namely medicine but she has more reccently discovered that she has a deep love for both reading and writing. She highlights that her stories feature some of her life experiences although sh ...more

Kerry Barnes writes one hell of a story and Deceit was no different. It seems with each book she just gets better and better as an author. When I read that part of this book would be set in a women’s prison I was reminded of one of Kerry’s earlier books however the story here couldn’t have been more different.

There’s not a lot I want to say about the plot for fear of giving too much away but I was blown away at where the story went here and how many amazing twists and turns Kerry included, some

Right that's it, Kerry Barnes I have decided is an absolute MUST read author for all those fans out there that love the likes of Jessie Keane, Kimberley Chambers, Anna Smith etc. She has written some amazing books all of which I have loved but this book right here........ohhhh its not just good its an absolute BELTER of a book!

Why I hear you ask is it SO good? Well, fellow readers I will tell you why! Yes she is writing in a genre that is pretty well known as 'gangland' shall we say and yes she

Deceit by Kerry Barnes, oh wow what an amazing, heart racing, fabulous contemporary psychological thriller. Once I picked it up, I could not put it down.
The novel breaks down long held preconceptions as we enter the world of a women's psyche and see inside the prison walls - both literal and psychological. The walls we build in our mind are as much a barrier as actual brick walls. Life deals us a certain hand, what we do with it is up to us but we must remember "actions have consequences." No ma

This is a story about Kara who after finding out his partner had got somebody pregnant from a one night stand, her life goes completely out of control. Loses her job and even exacts revenge. This does have a lot of strong language so this is not for the faint hearted. The story is decent but when it comes to the last 3rd of the book, it really does kick off with lots of surprises. I was pretty surprised in places although some parts of the book made me think ‘this is really fucked up to say the ...more

What a story!!! Well probably better to say a whole host of stories that intertwine to make the main story!
A bit action, some suspense, some thriller, a dose of psychological, romance, murder, revenge and counter revenge!
It really is all here in this book, told in easy narrative and in a ‘real life’ gritty and uncensored style
I did think at times the book repeated itself and ‘went on a bit’ but with so many sub stories and plots this meant you had no chance of forgetting things, the language in

Kara and Justin have a beautiful home, good jobs and are very happy together. Things suddenly slip away for Kara and following one desperate action she is sent to prison on remand, awaiting trial. The story that follows is gripping and totally absorbed me. There are plenty of plot twists and those in the latter part of the book literally took my breath away. There are so many elements to this book and the way that the plot entwines is so cleverly written. I didn’t hesitate in giving this book an ...more

I always get excited when a Kerry Barnes novel drops into my kindle and was equally thrilled to hear Kerry's 6th novel (DECEIT) which is standalone; and a full-tilt mix of Robin Cook, Tess Gerritsen, and Martina Cole.
That is why the book went into the Mashup section of Amazon and went straight to the number 1 spot!
We are introduced to the quiet sublime everyday life of Kara Bannon but after a shocking revelation her world turns upside down and finds herself in a world so far removed from her per

If there’s one thing that this Ginger Book Geek likes, it’s discovering new authors. Although I have several of Kerry’s books on my ever increasing to be read pile, ‘Deceit’ is the first of her books that I have actually read. Going by how much I enjoyed reading ‘Deceit’, I can 100% guarantee that it certainly won’t be the last of her books that I read. I absolutely loved it but more about that in a bit.
I couldn’t help but take to Kara Bannon, even if she did irritate me slightly. She’s a hardwo

It's difficult to believe I only read my first Kerry Barnes book at the beginning of this year. This is now the 4th one I have read. I have to say from first reading 'Cruel Secrets' I was blown away with the talent this author has for writing.
I am truly thankful that a twitter friend messaged me and told me I needed to read 'Cruel Secrets' that I would really enjoy it, because if he hadn't told me, then I would not have gone on to read some of the other books and I wouldn't have read this one y

Gripping & guessing until the last page! What a story

Having been a fan of Kerry’s books from the very beginning, I loved all of Ruby books and absolute page turners. My life was then all consumed with working non stop for a long time and then even moreso during this e tire year so my reading list was parked and all and any thoughts of self indulgence where a spare hour to read was involved, was gone.
I recently took time out for 3 months and got back to my reading list and boy, it was worth the

Thanks to Netgalley for my copy.

Kara and Justin are living together when their lives are blown apart by his infidelity. Kara finds herself in prison after setting their house on fire. This is a story of secrets and betrayal. It is also a story of kinship and loyalty where Kara would least expect to find it.

Kara finds herself embraced by a group of women in the prison when she uses her medical skills to help the leader. This is a gritty portrayal of life in prison where you have to fight for eve

I was so looking forward to starting this new book. I knew it would be good, as I loved Kerry Barnes’ other books.

Deceit is a different story, and I couldn’t put it down. The story kept me going all weekend.

One minute a couple are living together and happy. The next, she is working abroad, and he is unfaithful.
I won’t ruin the story for you, but couldn’t believe what happens next!
It just got better and better. Who would have thought? And that ending too!

This has to be my favourite Kerry Barnes

Outstanding writing

This book along with the rest of Kerry's books are outstanding to read. She is a great author. Once you start it you will not be able to put it down. Packed with so much grit and emotions it had me crying at some points i haven't read a book for a while that tugged at my heart strings like this did you really get invested in the characters lives and the ending is a massive twist i did not see coming but was certainly not disappointed. I just wish there was more than 5 stars.

Absolutely fantastic! Kerry Barnes is right up there these days with all the greats of this genre - Martina Cole, Kimberley Chambers, Roberta Kray, to name a few.

And oh God, I didn't see that twist coming!! What a story, it was completely gripping and unexpected.

As always Annie Aldington's narration brought this story and these characters to life, like no other narrator could have. Her work is perfection.

I honestly can't wait for the next two of her Audible books to be released (I've pre-orde

Fast paced, gripping and utterly unputdownable is how I describe this and from the very first page I was glued. With colourful characters (some I loved, some I hated), the pace never wavered. I feared for Kara when she went to prison but loved the camaraderie among the inmates. With a complex, twisty plot to get stuck into, it had me guessing right until the end. A few loose ends kept me thinking the story had not reached a conclusion but it wasn't a problem. A great read. ...more

Was going to give this four stars, but the ending was so ridiculously unbelievable, I had to lose one. Once I'd put aside the exaggerated caricatures of most of the main characters and swallowed the unbelievable number of co-incidences, I quite enjoyed losing myself in the story, but the ending was just a step too far. I'm picky, though. You may well enjoy it as it is. Complicated plot with evidence of some good research. ...more

I enjoyed this and it was easy to finish unlike some books which are hard to contunue reading. It gave a good insight into the minds of two sisters who have had very unfortunate lives.
Poor Justin gets more than involved with both females and portrays a perfect victim.

I both loved and hated this book. Sometimes I found the stereotypical characters cringeworthy, other times the plot just seemed to either jump or just not go anywhere. But.... something kept me reading and I'm glad I did. The plot twists were great, the pace was perfect and I never saw the end coming! ...more
