You were picked because you were special and you were needed to save the world, right?

When I started to read this book, I did not really know what to think. It was not what I had expected and it’s was rather confusing. That does not mean that I was not intrigued, because little by little everything was revealed and you start to see the light. I was even more shocked by some of the revelations. I certainly did not see that coming.

It makes you wonder how many mad minds have lured innocent people i
Peddling Doomsday by Petra Jacob was a psychological thriller that drew you in and really got you thinking about how people are recruited into cults.

I'm going to start with that it took me a bit to get into this book. I did find it a bit drawn out at the start. But as it got more into the story, the main plot and the "teachings" I got hooked. It was more then a page turned it was interesting and it really got your mind thinking. It was like a inside look, not only on the inside, but it got you

Peddling Doomsday by Petra Jacob is a great psychological drama with prophecies, cults/secret organisations, rituals, conditioning, cover ups, lies, hidden agendas, control, suspense, and intrigue. Ms. Jacob is a new-to-me author whose work I have enjoyed exploring with this book.
The story was very intriguing and suspenseful- Ms. Jacob certainly turned up the dial on the tension and anticipation to HIGH. The story is complex, with a lot more going on between the covers than I was initial

This book was not what I expected it to be. I loved that about it and didn't guess from the title that is was about a cult. I'm not sure I have read many books, if any, about cult before so this book caught my attention. I was curious and was on the edge of my seat wanting to find out what would happen next in this book. This is the first book I read from this author but she is intriguing in her writing and I would read more. *This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this ...more

From the first scene this novel hooks into you and won’t let go. The theme of what happens to vulnerable people, or to people feeling a lack of meaning in their lives, when they join a religious cult is a subject I find fascinating, and the author tackles it brilliantly.

The twisted and warped psychology, the emotional manipulations, and inevitably the blinkered viewpoints and practices that manage to gain hold through the mental phenomenon of what we all understand as ‘the emperor’s new clothes’

Wow that was amazing! I've just finished reading this book and couldn't put it down. We get to meet poor Deirdre who is cajoled into joining a weird cult where everyone gets a new name apart from... well I wouldn't want to spoil that bit it's priceless! This dystopian mayhem tells of the wrongs of modern life .. I was reading and giving the author an imaginary high five!

The story Peddling Doomsday by Petra Jacob is a psychological thriller that I found myself not able to stop thinking about once I had finished. This is the first book that I have read by the author and enjoyed it. It tells the story of Myra who is sharing information that has been revealed to her. She says that she has the truth and that you have been lied to. She says that she has the answers that you need in order to know who is really running th

This is the first book by Petra Jacob and it will not be my last. Petra does an amazing job of constructing Myra’s character that I was believing what she was saying as truth. This story is a Psychological Thriller. Within the genre Psychological Thriller, the characters must be form in a delicate way. You do not want to give the end of the story any glimpses that will turn you off reading the story. To make the story more intriguing is that it is a cult with a female head. If you ever want to dive into the machinations of how a cult can draw in and take over "normal" people, this second book from one of my favorite indie authors is the one you want to read.  From the outside, it's painfully obvious what's going on, but if you really want to be believe something or believe in something because you have nothing else to cli

“THE CENTER OF TRUTH. Time to be free.”

“They speak through many of us,” said Myra, “we are learning all the time.” They Myra leaned close. “Be careful Deirdre, don’t allow yourself to get distracted by details, we need you to be focused. Every day they draw closer and we need to be ready.”

Peddling Doomsday by Petra Jacob was my first time reading anything by this author. I wasn’t disappointed. It kept me engaged through most of the book. Usually cult books tend to really capture my interest and

Review originally published here:

This is a very curious story. I started reading with sorrow for Deirdre as it was apparent she was somewhat of a lost soul. However, this was a book where the plot intrigued me more than any character: Why the rituals? What is the purpose of the Centre? I had so many questions because a lot of information was presented in this book. Unfortunately, these questions were an indicator of a sometimes complex and not so easily u

The novel PEDDLING DOOMSDAY by Petra Jacob is a fascinating read. It tells the story of normal people, like you and me searching for a better life. People searching for purpose, for meaning in their lives. Peddling Doomsday tells the story of vulnerable people recruited into a religious cult.

Induction into The Center Of Truth is a gradual process. Our protagonist Deirdre, unhappy with her marketing job, starts reading their media: 'You don't know how significant you are. We Need You.' In time sh

Deidre lives a humdrum life. She’s not spectacular and lacks self confidence. While working in an advertising company, she suddenly starts getting emails from an unknown source wanting her to change her life. It offers her the chance to be someone and make a difference. Leaving her life behind, she joins a cult believing she can be a better person. The cult, through crazy rituals, makes a believer out of her. Not everything is as it seems and a full year

"No one ever said saving the human race would be all rainbows and teddy bears". That's a pretty deep statement and one that can convince others that they are on the right path . Isn't that how all cults begin?

PEDDLING DOOMSDAY is a complex tale in it's simplicity. A person with a strong personality has a thought, convinces others that it is the truth and has them tell others and so on and so on. This story feels like it could be our everyday truth with the way the world is right now, today. Ever

Deirdre has never felt like she fits in anywhere. She fixes other people's mistakes at her job but gets no credit. People she has worked with everyday can't even remember her name. Her father just passed and no one has even noticed or asked if she is doing alright. Then out of no where, Deirdre starts to get what she thinks are spam messages from The Center who tell her she is important and special. Even though she's pretty sure it's just a bad marketing ploy, it's nice to think someone thinks s ...more

This is a well written book. Not my usual cup of tea but still an interesting and thought-provoking story. The name alone gives the story a foreboding feel. But is it really something bad that will happen or is this the beginning of a new time? Can Deirdre save the world? Can she even save herself from her boring humdrum life? Will Myra prove to be all she says she is?

I liked that there was not a ton of characters to keep track of. This story has a few situations that made me wonder what the he

I give Peddling Doomsday by Petra Jacob, 4 stars.

Deidre does not fit in anywhere. Everything is so boring and normal. She yearns for something different. So when she starts getting messages about joining a place where she is special and can make a difference, she is intrigued. Finally she relents, leaves everything she knows and joins the group. She quickly sees how different things are. But she feels important here, like she can make a difference. But is it all it's cracked up to be?

This story was intense and fascinating, this book opens up the world of cults and you feel like you understand a little bit about this world.

I enjoyed the way the story weaves through and you feel like you are within the story with them, the descriptions and information does make you really think, the suspense that you get in each chapter has you thinking you have figured it out and then something comes in left field and chances your mind set.

Although starting this book was a bit slow at first o

Peddling Doomsday is a psychological thriller written about a girl who joins a cult named the ‘centre”, in order to prove herself worthwhile. Once, she joins the group she realizes that not everything she has been told is the truth. Delusions begin to overtake her and she begins to question herself.

I found the story to be exceptionally well written. I particularly enjoyed the strong female character side of the story and how complex a female mind can work, think, operation and feel.

Wow, what an interesting and intriguing read. This is totally out of my comfort zone but I thoroughly enjoyed this story and was really hooked from beginning to end. I liked that I couldn’t guess what was going to happen and there were some great twists and turns. The authors writing style was exciting and engaging. There was quite a bit mixed up in this book so I think it does need reading carefully but it is absolutely worth a read. I found the characters

When I first started reading this, I was a bit confused. I mean, at first, a character feels things moving in his head (whatever that means,) then we move on to Sarah and Dove trying to fix a printer machine. Obviously, I saw no connection here.

Story soon focuses on Deidre and her mediocre existence. The plot has an unbelievable lag. I kept on wondering when things were going to get interesting. Or was it ever going to get interesting?

Unfortunately, this book did not get interesting at all for

This is my first book by this author. At first I wasn't too sure about it but the more I read the more I become engaged in the story. This book is mystery and a thriller about a cult that is run by a woman. She is determined to teach those in the group that there are two important things to remember. Read this book to find out what those two things are. For the most part the characters are enjoyable and relateable. There are some twist and turns that you won't see coming.

This is definitely an interesting read that has the main character Deirdre becoming involved in a cult. She has felt alone and hasn't found a place that she fits. The Center uses these feeling to bring her into their fold. I enjoyed reading this book for psychological aspects and reading Deirdre’s thought process. I also liked reading how Deirdre grew and changed. I did find that the beginning was a bit slow, but things soon picked up.
