"Strange and "really important sentences" make up Shane Jones' collection of stories. They are stylistically and conceptually daring, but what draws me to them is the big-heartedness that lies underneath the casual surface. You will feel a little pang in your heart when you read about the Hair Monster and his girlfriend." -- Matthew Rohrer, Author of A Green Light

I absolutely adore Shane Jones' writing. I had unfortunately discovered his work too late for many of his earlier limited edition chapbook releases. Of those few out-of-print publications I have been able to obtain, this is certainly my favorite. Beautiful and highly original imagery saturate this short story, so much so that, without re-reading it, I find it difficult to figure out whether so much detail was actually contained in the story or that the story conveyed so much to me that I filled ...more

Paul West once dubbed Guy Davenport's stories "erotic skywriting" and that's sort of what I felt about these pieces. Favorite one is "Really Important Sentences." Favorite sentences are "Your wallet smelled like oranges" and "The whale tells me he has only so many sentences before his death. I tell him I'll knit a bigger blanket."
