A particularly versatile breed, the Border Collie has traditionally been of service to humankind. This book explores activities that make this dog a star such as flyball, agility and Obedience, in addition to explaining the selective breeding strategy needed to perpetuate the adored qualities of the Border Collie.
The Complete Border Collie is a must-have book for any current or potential border collie owner. It covers topics like selecting the right puppy, early training, behavior and training problems and solutions, feeding, health care and competition. It also delves a bit into issues of more concern to breeders like genetics in breeding, the breed standard, rearing puppies, and training dogs for actual herding work.
My only complaint with this book is that it doesn't present at all a complete guide for training, either for basic obedience or for herding work. Rather, it assumes that the reader is following some system for training and addresses some common problems that might be encountered.
