It's supposed to go like this. Boy meets girl, they fall madly in love with each other, battle some shit in their way, and after conquering the challenge, they ride off to their happily ever after.
But, not one fairytale, or love story tells you that after that ride, life happens. We had our story, and we were supposed to live happily in our bubble forever. After one check-

I have found a new author to follow, a debut book that is fantastic.

Dani and Sam's story is raw, gritty and emotional. The author invites the reader along for an inside look at the devastation that infertility can have on a couple. We see the struggles that no matter how in love they may be can still year them apart emotionally.

I loved this story, I don't know anyone who has been in this situation but I can imagine the pain. The author conveyed the feelings of both main characters with such hear

This book is one of the best books I read in 2018. This is a story about two young and loving people struggling for their future .This is so real and somentimes very sad story about a woman who will do everything for a gift of their life .This is a story of love , sacrifice , hope . This is a story of all couples who are going through In vitro fertilization ,who are scared but determined to go to the end.

This is a debut book of Ana Balen ,and I cant forgive myself for not seeing a mail that she

“Wishing for a Star” by Ana Balen

Reads as part memoir, part biography, and a fully realistic and relatable novel.

It is a story of a journey, of a loving and wonderful relationship, and of a couple’s desire to be parents. It is a story of loss, of hope, of love, of fear, of joy and agony...but always one of a couple who were meant to be and carried the other when needed...and eventually got their star.

IVF is a personal choice, a difficult choice, often a hellish path of ups and downs, disappoin

This is my first read by Ana Balen - I hope it will not be my last. I will admit this one hit me in the heart. Ms. Balen, dove full force into the issues of infertility, the roller coaster ride that it definitely is! I remember the ride, it was years ago but it was as if she was in my head. I remember laying in the back of my husbands pick up truck under the stars and wishing for a baby, any baby to call my own.

Ana, has brought depth to her characters, the pain and joy are palatable. This story

This debut novel absolutely blew me away with the depth of emotion and characters so real they practically leap off the page. The story is told in dual POV and moves back and forth between the past and present of Dani and Sam's relationship. I found it interesting that we get Dani in first person and Sam in third, something that would normally set my teeth on edge, but somehow, it just works for this one. As we go through the emotional roller coaster that is IVF treatment, I was drawn into Dani' ...more

I know y'all know my reviews are a bit long but this one might be longer than usual but please read!

When I read the blurb for this book I instantly knew I had to read it because I hoped for honesty and truth, whether it would be ugly or not. This is the first book that will be published by this author and I am so incredibly grateful she contacted us because she tells an amazing story that a lot of woman go through but no one writes.

This was a very personal read for me because we are struggling w

For a first book, this author did a wonderful job with a very strong and emotional topic as infertility. I am sure it was a topic close to home as it was so truthfully told with all the disappointments and shuffles along the way. This is a very strong and relevant topic as more and more couples struggle to have the family and dream they desperately want. IVF can sometimes be the saving grace for these couples and can give them the little miracles they so desperately seek. I was lucky in my life ...more

Wishing For A Star tackles a very sensitive subject with grace and taste, and brings forth so many emotions that I both laughed and cried as I traveled along with Dani and Sam on their journey to parenthood. The characters are so, so relatable, as is their IVF journey. There is a sweetness to their story, a grabbing prologue, and a HEA that is so very different but just as heartwarming as the romance novels I typically read! While this story isn't your traditional romance book, it is a gripping ...more

I am so emotional after reading this book, I've had my heart sucked out. I could totally empathise with both Dani and Sam as they journey through the hardest time of their lives, coping with IVF. What an epic story about emotional heartbreak and depression. It's easy to imagine the mood swings and utter despair that couples go through, I was going through it with them and, although Dani was flip-flopping through her decisions, I could totally understand her reasoning.

This story really gets the

Oh wow, what an incredible book.

What the majority if us take for granted, is a real struggle for some.
This is Dani and Sam's story. Their journey, how their faith, faith in each other is tested. The hard and incredibly emotional journey of AI.

This gives you insight into the real life struggles, heartache, losses - loss of hope, faith, being that is involved in infertility and the journey to try other methods and the toll they take on you; your body and relationship, especially your relationship

What an amazing debut novel. I was extremely impressed and engrossed in the story and the emotions. This is one of those subjects that is just so hard to address. What do you say to a woman who is unable to conceive? It's true we all walk on eggshells, have no idea what to say or do and hate that what we consider good news will send them spiraling. All she wanted was her own star. This book is the emotional journey of a couple who loved each other so much she would rather divorce him than not ha ...more

This is a very emotional book.
No kidding.
I knew it was going to be a heavy drama because I read the synopsis. But after reading the book - wow.
There is a slow pent up of emotions. It just did not rain all sad stuffs at once - well, actually it did. The whole fertility issue is given at the first part of the book. But the way it was written, it is like giving you an in-depth view of what the heroine was feeling. Reading it is like being , thinking her thoughts, feeling her emotions, being in the

Stars are everything!

This is the debut novel from this author. My TBR pile is so long I really shouldn’t have read this. I was drawn to it after reading the blurb. The subject matter is at times difficult to take. I found myself with tears running down my face. Parts of this are so descriptive of this couples dream as well as their nightmare it’s tough to go through. It’s so hard to think what most of us take for granted can be impossible for others. Without spoilers the attention given to the t

____New Author Alert_________

First, the cover art and the title is perfect for the storyline.

This author tackled a sensitive subject matter, but nevertheless; it was written so beautifully. Not ashamed to admit, I shed a lot of tears.

The only warning I have about this book is … don't listen to it at work, like I did. I tried to stop listening, but I couldn't. If the warning is disregarded, have plenty of Kleenex close by or wear a long sleeve shirt. The choice is yours because tears are going t

This is a debut novel from this author, and I am totally amazed at the way in which she wrote about such a sensitive subject, which affects so many women, yet is has not been written about before. Dani and Sam’s story is told in dual POV, and goes from present to past, which gives a better understanding of these characters. This story is raw, gritty, emotional, heartbreaking, hopeful, passionate, and an all round powerful story. This is a beautifully written story, which had me totally intrigued ...more

I didn't feel the connection to the characters I'd have liked to have. Even though I felt some feels, with a subject matter this potentially emotional and difficult to talk about, I wanted all the feels. The author stops short of truly ripping my heart out. I believe for those women who have gone through this experience, it's a short jump to tap into their own emotions and empathize with Dani or even Sam. But for those of us who have to stand at the sidelines struggling to understand, I didn't q ...more

Beautiful

What a beautiful story that so many of us take for granted, I'm one of them I was lucky twice. It reminded me of the movie maybe baby and that was good but this is so much more. You feel the pain and heartache with each page turned and you share the longing with the characters from the beginning. By the end I was biting my nails just hoping they got their little baby. Well done Ana this was an amazing read and really shed the light into how hard this journey can be for so many couples.

What can I say other than WOW! Ana Balen writes about a very sensitive subject, infertility, and what a couple will go through to get their little star. From beginning to end this story kept me entranced. I absolutely loved how she wrote it from both the female, Dani, and male, Sam, perspective. You don’t hear too much of what the male goes through watching their loved one going through such a battle. There’s just so much more I can say but I won’t. Ana Balen weaves a story that leaves you with emotion that makes you feel everything in this book. By the end of the book, I was in tears. In the middle, my heart was breaking. The book broaches the subject of not being able to become pregnant and having to use IVF and it's the story of Dani and Sam. The struggles this couple go through it's beautifully heartbreaking. If I could give Ana more stars I would. This book touched me so deeply and made me feel blessed that I am a mom.

This is a new author and her first book. I am so glad to have read it! This is an emotional, deep and mature story about a couple who is trying to survive a very delicate time in their relationship. It is told in dual POV and you can see all the story (past and present) of this couple who is struggling so much but have a great future in the end (without spoilers!).

Their journey is embraced in happiness and sorrow just like life and this author shows great maturity in dealing with these feelings.

This is a great debut novel by Ana Balen. Very emotional read with an HEA.

"I'm no longer formed by blood muscles, and bones, but only from my love for him, and he'll never know."

Sam and Dani go through utter hell to conceive a baby. I have heard the stories but the author definitely captures an in depth look into this experience. The emotions and heartache are heartbreaking. However perseverance and faith won.

Wow! What an emotional story. This was my first read by Ms. Balen and it won’t be my last.

The diagnosis of infertility can be a devastating blow to couple but more for the woman. As a woman who suffers from this, you always ask yourself “why me”? I never got my answer but for some women they do.

I felt the author handled the storyline perfectly and character development was spot on. I did take issue with Dani’s dad, but other than that, it was amazing story.

Ana Balen was born in Zagreb, Croatia, where she still lives with her husband, their son (read boss!) and the son’s pet rabbit named Shhh! (or some other gibberish that’s the favorite of their son for the day.)
She spends her days driving her husband up the wall (when he can’t get her ass up from the bed in the mornings), reading and daydreaming, or following orders from a two-year old. In the hect
