Found this book in with items from family vacations while going through things at my mom's house. It's from 1974 according to the date inside, so before the movies were made. (I believe some things were added to the attraction after the movies came out.)

The first part of the book is a brief history of piracy and pirates. The second part of the book discusses audio-animatronics and how that was used to create the attraction. The book contains many illustrations and photographs.

I was hoping for a bit of the storyboard story they created though to explain the scenes in the ride or how the story progresses. (Then again, I'm sure some of that changed a bit once the movies came out.)

All in all, a walk down memory lane.

Found this vintage souvenir book today at the thrift store and I had to take it home. It has some beautiful artwork especially on the first two pages which contain a hand drawn map of the sea, village and swamp land with loads of pirates. The books starts of with the history of piracy and has the story's of some of the most famous pirates like Blackbeard. Then it explains how the actual ride came together in Disneyland and Walt Disney world. It's a souvenir book that was sold at the parks around 1974 so there are a lot of pictures inside the book. I enjoyed it a lot and will reread.

My mom and I found this in a photo album while comparing pictures of our trip to Disneyland this year and one she took in 1976. It provides a history of piracy in general as well as key characters in many pirate stories and movies (fiction and nonfiction). The most interesting part is the information provided on how the ride was developed- it took years! The idea came before the technology (audio-animatronics). Very interesting and informative for a souvenir book from 40+ years ago.
