Blood-Bound is a haunting and Gothic vampire novel, not without humour, and a strong female lead who is described as grey-aromantic. I wouldn’t normally bang on about a character’s chosen gender or sexuality but it does form a major aspect of the book, and to understand the characters, you kind of have to get a handle on what their preferences are. In this book, the author is very clear from the start, so the main character’s relationships with their closest friends are not in any doubt. Xie has ...more

I received this book from Netgalley. Let me just start off by saying, DAMN! Rhywiol knows how to grab a reader by the scruff and shake them GOOD!

Usually it takes a few pages for me to get into a book, no matter how well-written. But there was something about Rhywiol's voice (and don't hit me with a stick if I use a new-agey word) that was so very, very authentic. What do I mean by that? I mean it felt like this story was being told just for ME. There was an intimacy about the book that made it

I love Welsh lore, and when I found out this book was based in Welsh mythology it was a given I was going to devour it! I've been a little bit bored by a lot of the fae-based fantasy books I've read (with two or three notable exceptions lately), but this was a very well written, exciting story with tons to love.
Kaelan Rhywiol's Blood-Bound is just the kind of urban fantasy tale I like: gritty and sexy, with a lead heroine who kicks ass and takes names. There's a murderer in town, and when Rhian'

If you are the type to bemoan a “Mary Sue” because the protag is too many things you might not like this book, but if you can get past that, great! You’re in for a fun time! The characters are introduced fast and I found myself caring just as fast.

This book is great for those who love pining characters who already have a history together.

While I cared about the characters I didn’t get that “can’t put down” feel for the pacing until after the first fifty pages. For me knowing the backstory soone

I really enjoyed this book! The characters were great, with sass and wonderful dynamics. I liked that the protagonist was demisexual, and made it very clear how that worked for her. I also liked the world-building, and the way fantasy meshed with reality. The writing was strong, too, with good descriptors and an excellent use of body language that conveyed each characters' unique traits. Lovely overall! ...more

Recieved from Netgalley. Warning the story drops you straight in the deep end but once you get to grips with it, it’s easy to follow and enjoyable. Rhian or Risk as she prefers reluctantly takes a job thanks to her master the sneaky dark god. Which is fine except her husband is around and she’s not allowed to touch. I like how the story bounces between the two of them. Favourite character would be Kai, his stubbornness and perseverance are astounding. Lynn and Arawn good too. Could’ve done with ...more
I really wanted to love this book, unfortunately it was quite disappointing. It has good intentions and nice ideas, but the execution doesn’t live to expectations. The book promised demisexual kick-ass assassin investigating murders on Earth and rediscovering Romance with her husband, who left her centuries ago. The book also supposed to offer more authentic view on Irish Faye. Unfortunately, the kick-ass assassin skills were of tell-instead-of-show kind. The murder investigation was so much at ...more

OMG I loved this book! I love the characters, and beyond that, the extended universe it creates, of magical folks walking among us while most humans remain unaware. The story was exciting, a murder mystery with romantic drama on the side that had me both wanting to solve the murders, and longing for the two main characters – an estranged husband and wife – to get back together. I also love that it was told in 1st person, from the POV of both main characters, in a very easy to follow way that flo ...more

Rhywiol's masterful pacing makes this book one that I literally couldn't put down.

The well-researched Welsh mythology that runs through the story is a refreshing and delightful departure from the standard supernatural fare, offering a unique flavour to the genre.

Seeing myself, as a grey-ace person, represented in romance was a new experience for me, and I can't praise Rhywiol enough for the skill and sensitivity with which xie describes such a breadth of orientations.

7/10. Written review to come.

I received this book as an ARC from the author.

I had been waiting for this for quite some time, and it was well worth it! I read through the bulk of it in a single night, and will read it again shortly because I miss the characters already.

I loved Blood-Bound. It's not often that London, Ontario is the setting for a murder mystery, and the description of this humble town I call home is pretty spot-on. I loved how the author played around with descriptions of places that are totally not real-wor

Note: this book comes with a trigger warning for sexually explicit, rough sex/willing partners, reference to tickling as coercion, graphic violence, talk of depression, suicidal ideation and past attempt, panic attack, ableist language as self-ID, allusion to rape, blood letting and exchange, reference to self harm. If these things disturb or offend you, please stop reading now.

I was intrigued enough by the write-ups and other reviews I’d read about Kaelan Rhywiol's Blood-Bound to read it. Heavi

I loved the characters in this book and their complex, often fraught relationships to reach other. while this was clearly a romance between Rhian and Kai, her estranged husband whom she hasn't seen for three-hundred years and yet is still drawn to, no matter how reluctantly, this book also includes many intriguing supporting characters. I especially loved Rhywiol's inclusion of characters all across the queer spectrum, from ace and biromantic Rhian to bi Kai, to queer and genderfluid characters ...more

I couldn’t put this book down.

I devoured this book in one sitting. The writing was so smooth and engaging that it just pulled me in. And Rhian! She was so cool and complex. I would follow her story to the ends of the Earth.

Okay, so, Rhian is a badass shapeshifting assassin for the dark god Arawn. She’s beautiful, deadly, and asexual. No matter how much she’d like, she can’t become sexually stimulated by the people in her life that she’s close to; except for one man, her estranged ex-husband. Unf

I received this book as an ARC from the author. As a fan on xyr work I had been anticipating this novel for some time and Blood-Bound did not disappoint!

Rhian returns reluctantly to Earth at the command of her God, for a job that will put her in close contact with her estranged husband for the first time in three hundred years. She also has to solve a murder, just for a little extra excitement!

Tensions are high, right from the get go because Rhian and Alkaios? Still very attracted to each other

I recieved this book as an ARC thanks to Net Galley and Nine Star Press!
Blood-Bound is the story of Rhian a shape shifter that serves a God. In her Service she is seperated from one of the only beings whom she has ever felt any Love hence desire for. Kai. Rhian is presented as being Ace and demi sexual and her thoughts and struggels that she faced because of this where amazingly insightful and informative. She was also very funny and her inner monoluge was a delight to hear. Kai's inner monoluge

With a powerful voice, the author presents a very strong willed, but temperamental MC and a devilishly charming secondary protagonist.
The plot moves along with grace and a very good pace. The rest of the characters are amazingly fleshed out and provide a rather refreshing grounding to the supernatural world of the protagonists.
The content warnings are there for a reason and oh boy if those are your things then you'll really enjoy the ride but beware if they are not then better stay away from thi

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book (I haven't ever really read any romance or kink books before), but I found myself engaged throughout Blood-Bound. Reading a story so focused around Welsh mythology was refreshing, and the variety of representation presented (asexual, demisexual, polyamory, etc) was well handled and more than welcome. I loved how the main character was at once a powerful, otherworldly being and still struggled and accepted their sexuality and life. In future books, I'd ...more

I've had this book on my TBR list for a while, and was thrilled to win a signed copy in a Twitter giveaway. I plowed through the pages, invested in the characters and the story. The dynamic between the assassin, her god, her husband, and her assistant was absolutely delicious. Such chemistry! I appreciated the diversity represented on more than one level, especially the broad-spectrum of sexuality and relationships that went beyond the usual m/f monogamy. It's a hot, smart, sassy book with plent ...more

In short: unique paranormal romance with delicious mythology.

This story is seen through the eyes of Rhian, a Welsh shapeshifter known as a pwca, with some POV from Kai, a Welsh vampire. The mythology is INCREDIBLE, filling every page of the story with a rich depth that shows Rhywiol's obvious research and lovely world building. The intense culmination of mythology and lore at the conclusion is fantastic.

Blood-Bound is ultimately a fierce romance about identity and connection. The flow was a li

This book was incredibly fun and sweet. I'm always on the hunt for fantasy featuring polyamory and so when I saw this, I had to pick it up.

I'd never really read a book with an ase heroine before, and found it a really interesting experience. It is a part of Rhian's identity, and a big part, but she also felt like a real person, with relationships and interests and preferences outside that identity. To be sure, her aseness changes the shape of some of those relationships, but in a very nuanced w

Excellent book with a compelling story. Very much looking forward to the next one. Beautifully written, scene setting is wonderful, character development is drawn through the book and pulls you in. I love the way the writer is detailed without being fussy and the tone and richness that this generates is perfect. Despite the assassin theme this is a book that makes you feel the warmth and love of the characters. One of my favourites already.
