An excellent dictionary of names with etymology and historical references. I was glad to run across a used copy of this in a thrift store and it's come in very handy with my writing. Most of the name reference sites I find have little to no history attached to names, and a lot of them give meanings that are just flat out inaccurate. Plus, it's easier to choose historically appropriate names when you aren't having to sift through the countless hundreds of contemporary names and alternate spellings. =)

If I had to pick one name book that I got to keep and all the rest were completely destroyed, this would be the one I kept. It is full of accurate info, tons of archaic trivia/historical tidbits, and many uncommon and underused names.

Standard name reference book in the Society for creative Anachronism, a lot of dates names and descriptions on Christian given names.
