Literacy intervention should be swift and powerful—and this approach by Jan Richardson and Ellen Lewis provides fast results! After only 6-8 weeks of intervention, students can gain the confidence, proficiency, and skills they need to excel as readers and exit intervention! Based on Jan's bestselling The Next Step Forward in Guided Reading , this companion volume is intended to be used together in order to best implement the RISE framework.. The Next Step Forward in Reading Intervention offers intensive, short-term, targeted instruction in reading, writing, word study, and comprehension. It’s a step-by-step handbook for literacy teachers, literacy coaches, and reading specialists who are looking for a proven reading invention program that really works.
“RISE has truly changed the face of intervention at our school.” — Ranita Glenn, Reading Specialist and RISE instructor, Hardy Elementary School, Chattanooga, Tennessee
Good guide for the RISE method of teaching reading for intervention. It contains clearly written guides, appendixes, and advice on how to level children, work on guided reading, phonics, word work and writing.
Nice all-in-one package for how to run RTI in schools. I like that it includes both younger and older students who are struggling to learn to read. There will be some criticisms, I'm sure, about the lack of current research in reading instruction. What teachers choose to do at each of the stations, especially the Word Work and Phonics station, can easily be adapted to include more rigorous phonics instruction. I will be recommending this book for our schools.
You always need to be careful when someone says they have the ANSWER to reading difficulties. I would call this Reading Recovery for Groups. I am surprised that their are no references to Marie Clay's work in this book...especially since both of the creators are Reading Recovery trained. If you are also Reading Recovery trained you likely will not be surprised by what is suggested. There are some nice resources in the appendices.
Now on to the book that started this intervention. Reading this text to find out more about an intervention we are looking into for our school. Lots of missing information so looking forward to the original text.
