Becki Willis As far as the mystery goes, yes. But to understand the full dynamics of the characters, you'll probably want to start with book one, Chicken Scratch.

Madison, Genny and Granny are all headed for a girl's outing near DC because Genny is judging a baking contest. But they don't get there, a mess up happens along the way and they end up at The Columbia Inn at Peralynna. Madison also ends up with the wrong luggage. This place is a haven for spies! Meanwhile back at The Sisters, the twins are having their own adventure by being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Can everyone get out of these snafus without too much problems? Not really, but it' ...more

A book that looked as if it would be a good espionage thriller turns out to be a Harlequin-type story written at an elementary level for young readers and designed for female readers. A simple, uncomplicated story, burdened by too many references to events that have occurred in the past and not explained here, the story was not particularly enjoyable nor was the author impressive.

4.5 STARS. I make no secret that most of the time, what most entices me to read a book is its cover. (Because of my cover snobbery, I have missed or delayed reading some great stories.) From the time THE LILAC CODE had its cover reveal last year, I wanted to read it. The cover evokes mystery and a little danger and has an air of creepy to it that drew me right in. Alas, as the seventh book in a series that I hadn’t started, I thought the love affair with THE LILAC CODE ended with the cover. (I m ...more

Chicken Scratch #1 - This is my first book by this author and I was greatly surprised at how well written, well thought out and laced with humor and intrigue; this little gem is packed. The area is near and dear to my heart since I was born in the area. The people, while not as easily identifiable as in a Jeff Abbott novel, are locals I know. The Texas speak is just as if Ms. Willis and I were at the Creamery (TAMU) sharing milk shakes and local gossip. The kinks and knots in the plot made it ha ...more

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

First of all, I absolutely adore cozy mysteries. There is nothing better than curling up with a book that doesn't have gratuitous violence, an abundance of profanity, or detailed bedroom scenes. And I am happy to report that there is nothing offensive in this book (an occasional "ass" and reference to male strippers and sex within the confines of marriage). In

The Lilac Code: The Sisters, Texas Mystery Series Book 7 is by Becki Willis. This seventh book is just as good as book one in the series. The characters are very realistic and the plot is quite diverse. In fact, you have two different plots going on at the same time. You don’t want to put the book down.
Meredith Reynolds, Genesis Baker, and Granny Bert are headed out for a Girls’ Weekend. Genesis is to be a judge at a cooking contest so Meredith and Granny Bert go along to create a Bachelorette

I will admit, when I first started this book in the Sisters, Texas Mystery series, I wasn't sure how I was going to like it. For most of it, the story wasn't set in my beloved Texas - one of the things I really like about this series. But I figured it must be a challenge to keep a story line fresh and entertaining, especially in a series. But Becki Willis does it time and time again, and I should never have doubted that she would deliver an entertaining and action-packed story! Every book in thi ...more

As usual, Becki Willis nailed this one! Assuming you already know the characters, Genny has been invited to judge a baking contest in DC. She asks Maddie and Granny Bert to go along with her and make it a "bachlorette" weekend before her wedding. When Maddie's suitcase gets switched at the airport, the trio doesn't realize the danger they're in. Then upon discovering their hotel has burned, they opt to stay at a B&B recommended by a stranger on the plane - which just happens to be a former CIA s ...more

I really enjoyed this book. It’s a great addition to the series but enough backstory is given to ensure that each book in the series can be read as a stand-alone book.

When Maddie, Gen, and grandma Bert decide to combine Gen judging a pastry baking competition with a girls weekend/bachelorette party they never dreamed it would involve lost suitcases, coded messages or kidnapping. Back home they’re dealing with a new case for Maddie’s business, In a Pinch, and teenage arsonists.

Madison, Ginny and Granny, a trip to spend a few days together before Ginny’s wedding. She is judging a celebrity bake off, and a bachelorette party for her, as well as her having a bad feeling about going. From the start of getting to the airport, seats, luggage mix up, to even hotel burning down they were to stay in. Turned out to be an adventure, and them having no clue of what was going on. The characters were great. A delightful story to read of mishaps.

Over the top spy story

This one is a little over the top. You have Maddy, Genny and Granny Bert in Maryland getting involved with spies. You have the twins and Megan getting involved with a gang that likes arson. It's exciting but you have to suspend reality, big time. The end is great with Genny and Cutter's wedding but then another little twist for Maddy that I thought was a little much. Loved Granny Bert's sassy attitude.

Funny light thriller

I liked the Granny character. Story started slow giving the feeling of drama more than a mystery thriller.
I think the author could have done a lot with the mysterious spy hotel and the characters but it didn't go as expected.
This book basically has 2 stories running in parallel - one involving adults and the other involving teenagers.
Easy to read if you are looking for a funny and light thriller plus drama genre.

More twists and turns than an amusement park ride!

Taking the three musketeers out of their Texas comfort zone added interest to the tale, while introducing us to a delightful real life destination to visit. Blake, Bethani and Megan evolved as strong positive characters while dealing with their own side story.
Definitely a winner, and Congrats to Cutter and Genny!

Fantastic story

A trip to the DC area becomes more than expected for Maddy, Genny and Granny Bert. What should be a girl's weekend instead becomes a fight for survival when the ladies become entangled with spies. Meanwhile at home the twins and Megan are involuntarily involved in solving mysterious cases of arson.

This is a fantastic read with fantastic characters and storyline! Loosing her suitcase one a working trip/bachelorette party, the fun begins. Crooks and spies to deal with there. Upon arrival home find her children was working on investigations of their own. A definite must read to find out all the fantastic things going on

Loved it!

Great story, enjoying the series. Especially like this one taking place in an actual home we can stay in. Never imagined a home like this in the US, now I'm interested in learning more about them.

Maybe the best of the series, so far, but I can't wait for Brash and Maddy's wedding. All the characters are wonderful and the home-town flavor puts the icing on the cake. The intrigue is just enough to get the reader thinking and with a dash of "fun" added in, it's a "can't miss" series.

Another page turner, hard to put down book

This one was a little different as one setting changed but there were two mysteries, two settings. Both well written. With a surprise at the end. A good read.

Lots of excitement and the younger generation does their part when danger comes for them. Another sweet story that twists into adventures and plenty of humor with Granny Bert around. Looking forward to another wedding!

Love this series

I've only given this a three because of the venue change from the Texas theme. It was a little harder to follow because of the location change but I still managed to gobble it up in a two part reading binge. I love this author and this series.

Since writing my first "book" in grade school, I knew I wanted to be an author.

In November of '13, my dream became a reality. I now have twelve books published, won first place awards for Best Mystery Series, Best Suspense Fiction and Best Audio Book, and -- best of all -- I get to play with my imaginary playmates every day!

As an avid history buff, I like to poke around in old places and learn a
