Detective Lily Blanchette will stop at nothing to solve a murder. Her current case involves the killing of an undercover cop working to bring down the mob for prostitution and drugs.
But Lily's usual laser-like focus on the case has been disrupted.
Two weeks earlier, she learned she was pregnant by her murderous husband whom she'd killed in self-defense. Unsure whether to keep her baby or place the child of this cruel man up for adoption, Lily keeps the pregnancy a secret from her colleagues.
Under mounting pressure to solve the case, Lily arranges a sit-down with a local mob boss only to find out her suspect is also wanted by them. But before Lily can warn her team, she and her new partner, Jeremiah, are shot at, and another body is found.
When she discovers Jeremiah has a connection with the underworld, she is pulled into a conflict that swirls around the boss's son who's hell-bent on revenge.
To add to the complexity of the situation, Lily learns that her victim might still be alive if it wasn't for opportunistic Assistant District Attorney, Ibee Walters, who has a twisted vision of justice.
As Lily gets closer to finding the killer, she unravels ugly secrets that point to Ibee and Jeremiah - placing Lily's life and her unborn child in danger.
I'm on Goodreads as an author and a reader. I love reading printed books, but enjoy using my Kindle for late night reading.

This was my first time reading this author and won’t be my last. this was definitely a well written, chilling crime thriller. You truly can see that our main character Detective Lily Blanchette was isolated on who to trust as was the detective who died. Watching Lily ferret out the truth about her victim was fascinating. Seeing the clues unfold and go in so many different ways was great and keeps you on your toes.
This story had intrigue, danger and chilling moments that just had your hair on end. It was a great crime thriller to the end leaving you not really knowing who was killing who and why.
Lily was a good strong character. She went where the clues took her and didn’t care if it didn’t make people comfortable. Her job was to find a killer and in the process more people died and so many suspects and reasons came to light. Lily was a good detective and an honest one.
Her new partner, Jeremiah, had you wondering at first but as his story unfolds you get to know him more and what was really going on. You even felt for the guy because he truly was in a rock and hard place. Love definitely had him all twisted in knots at one point in his career and in a way still did.
the guys helping at the precinct were good as well. Good eggs so to speak. they had Lily’s back and helped any way they could. And with the crazy cast of suspects and reveals along the way she needed all that help.
A good plot, intriguing story and thrilling crime story that has you guessing to the end what was going on and why it all went down. I am very curious with the ending and how it’s up in the air and having you want more of this crew of detectives in another thriller that will surely keep us on our toes and intrigued to the end.
Detective Ariel Weeks is working undercover to being the mob down on charges of prostitution and drugs. But just before she is done she is discovered murdered. Lily gets the case and with her new partner Jeremiah Mills. But Lily is still shaken from learning of her pregnancy and discovering the ultimate betrayal of her husband.
She decides to have a meeting with the mob when she learns that her suspect is also someone the mob boss is looking for. But the more Lily learns the more she feels alone. Her partner has connections to the mob and Ariel may still be alive if not for Assistant District Attorney Ibee Walters.
I really liked Her Final Watch. Lily is shaken after her last case but has to get on with the new investigation. But this is not going to be a simple case when it is clear the mob bosses son is out for revenge. Plus Lily has a huge distraction with her pregnancy, should she keep the baby of a murderer?
With a great story that will keep you guessing, lots of twists and turns, and a strong female lead, I would say that Her Final Watch is a great mystery thriller. I loved every moment of it and can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
I received Her Final Watch from Silver Dagger Book Tours for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.

I got into Promised Lies not knowing what to really expect since, I don't usually go for Mystery/Thriller books, unless they immensely intrigue me. But, it was the best surprise ever and had me hanging from the edge of my seat throughout it! I'm not going to get really into the plot because I feel like this is definitely something you have to experience firsthand if you're interested in reading the series. We'll get to that a bit later though!
First of all, the characters were so complicated and interesting that, they gave a completely different meaning to the word authenticity. I've never come across such complex characters that hid behind so many layers and kept so many secrets from each other. Lily was a fantastic main heroine and definitely someone to look up to. She's extremely passionate and determined to finish the job and find the psycho who's already killed so many innocent young women.
She's also relatable in the sense that, she's trying to push through all the bad stuff that's been happening and prevent it from taking over her life, in order to get the job done. She's human, she has her flaws and imperfections, but that doesn't stop her from doing what has to be done. Even if shit happens along the way. She's also stubborn and won't let anything or anyone intervene with what has to be done. The only thing that annoyed me a lot as a reader and I couldn't get over, was how invested she was in her work. I can definitely understand being passionate about the things that you love doing but, sometimes it was just too much and prevented her from seeing the bigger picture. It felt like being a cop was a bigger priority than it should've been and followed her in everywhere. Yes, she was trying to catch a serial killer but, there were times when it completely consumed her and wouldn't let her think clearly.
Moving on to the rest of the characters. I adored Morgan and felt like she completed Lily in every single way possible! She was funny, sincere and stood by Lily through everything she had to go through in such a short time. Alec and Evan perfectly fit into the bigger picture and added their own touch in the book. We didn't really get to see much of them but, Evan's history with Lily is unveiled as the story progresses and the ending is looking hopeful for both of them. Just to get it out there, I hated Julius from the very beginning and his behavior was just, suspicious to say the least. I wanted to seriously hurt Deena - Lily's mother - because the woman was frustrating and obviously had no feelings. She's selfish and probably narcissistic. As far as characters go, there are a lot more introduced in the book and you'll just have to discover them yourselves because I really don't want to reveal too much.
Moving on to the complexity of the book itself, which really held my attention and made the mystery feel even more authentic and vivid in my mind. I could not stop reading and finished this book in a matter of hours. I'm not even kidding. It was so well written and the thought process blew my mind away, along with the twists and turns that I couldn't have seen coming, even if they'd been staring at me in the face. It's such an unpredictable story and it will definitely surprise you, break your hearts into tiny little pieces and make you scream in horror and disbelief!
This was such a fantastic read for fans of mob families and police procedurals. The story is filled with so much danger, intrigue, and a cast of characters so untrustworthy that there is no way to know who you can rely on. The author's writing is so vivid and perceptive that you feel as though you are either watching it happen on the big screen or right there along with the characters.
Much of the action drew out the tension and kept the suspense ongoing, making this a fast-paced and thrilling read from start to finish. I also thoroughly enjoyed the family dynamics and strains plaguing the main characters, which added depth and emotional understanding to so much of their individual decision-making.
Despite this being the second book in the series, I never felt that I was missing anything. In fact, the references and character development featured in this story to events that occurred previously piqued my curiosity enough that I plan on reading the first book in the near future. It would also be great to see the series continue on with additional cases.
This book is an absolute steal for your ebook library and highly recommended!
This book, second one in the series, was much more enjoyable than the first one and I’m glad for that. The first Story showed so much promise and good talent from this author, but with this one she’s gone from ‘good’ to ‘great’ with her writing and plots.
I liked all the twists, the endless amount of drama and the investigation. There was still some contradicting parts and some unbelievable parts, along with many editing errors (which hasn’t affected my rating), and some discrepancies.
When Deena had her mammogram the doctors said it was normal and the said she was having surgery... and you’ll have to read this for the results yourself but that made no sense and as a result it went towards my star rating for Her Final Watch.
I’d love to continue reading this series, if the author writes more that is, as I love Lily and Evan, though I find Evan too clingy for someone as strong and fierce as Lily, and for a police officer too. I’m gutted Morgan didn’t make a return, or get a mention, as I liked her.
There are so many twists and turns that you constantly guess who and what is happening. It’s fabulously portrayed and much better written then the previous book.
Detective Lily Blanchette is back on the case. But this time she is in a personal crisis that could wreck her life and her career. While trying to figure out how to play the cards that life has dealt her, she has to solve the murder of an undercover cop.
The author has done it again with another beautifully written murder mystery. The action was fast paced and steady. Never a dull moment. There were a couple of times that I thought I had it figured out who was behind the murder. Jinkies! I was wrong again.
I really hope that this series continues. We need more strong female detectives like Lily Blanchette. I will be singing the praises of this book for months to come.
I actually started to like this book but the further I got the harder it was to stick with it. I didn't have too much of a problem with the characters, despite having not read the first book. In fact, the chemistry between Lily and Evan was good. I liked that Evan was so caring and protective towards Lily and not just because she is pregnant.
Not nothing what Lily went through from the first book, I did get the feeling that she was stronger for it in this book. I liked that she did not let her current health status interfere with the investigation. Yet, this is where I was a bit disappointed. It felt like the story were start to rev up but it never fully got there. I wanted Lily, Evan, and the rest of the team to be like bulldogs. They were almost too nice. While, at times the reading was slow, I saw potential. Sadly, this book just did not do it for me.
Her Final Watch a well-written, fast-paced crime thriller. The story picks up where book one left off, and while it can be read as a standalone, there are things mentioned from the first book and I would recommend reading them in order. Like the first Detective Blanchette book, this one has loads of twists and it seems everyone has a secret. The story's heroine, Lily, is a likable, strong woman. I love that we see that along with her vulnerable side and her fears. It's refreshing to see such a strong female character that doesn't fall back on sarcasm to hide her insecurities. All-in-all, another solid addition to the Detective Blanchette Mysteries.
Really good mystery to settle in with these cold fall nights. Every page will keep you going to the next. A mystery that will have you guessing.. But just when you think you know.. you may find yourself second guessing.
