Shelves: read-in-2018

Detective Samantha Reilly has always looked after Michael, ever since his parents were killed in one of her crime scenes. Michael is not your normal, everyday teenager. He has a gift of seeing someone's future just by touch. He considers it more of a curse and wears gloves so as to not touch anyone.

However, his visions are changing. Now when he's in the middle of a vision, he can also hear ... and what he hears is scaring him.

His dreams and visions take him back to the tender age of 3, when he
4.5 stars! (Cycle of Evil: Book 2)

HEARING EVIL is Book 2 in the Cycle of Evil series by Jason Parent.  Michael Turcotte is now trying to get on with his life, attempting to avoid the supernatural visions of the future that have plagued him in the past.  Currently residing with his guardian, Detective Samantha Reilly, all he wants is to be . . . ordinary . . . like any other boy his age.

Unfortunately, that appears to be too much for Michael to hope for.

". . . The visions were happening again . .

Freaking me out from the getgo. Jason Parent has that ability and uses it well in Hearing Evil, Book 2 of the Cycle of Evil series. I love getting a glimpse inside Jason Parent’s head.

If I hadn’t already been claustrophobic, I would be now.

Because Hearing Evil is Book 2 it makes it harder to write a review without giving away too much for those of you who want to read Book I, Seeing Evil, which I highly recommend reading before moving on to this one.

Michael is one of the unfortunates. Life has d

After the tumultuous events of Seeing Evil (haven’t read it? You need to!) Michael and Sam have earned a little quiet time. But, sadly, peace and quiet aren’t on their horizon.

Plagued by new nightmares, Michael seems to be withdrawing further into himself and Sam, despite bringing Michael into her home, can’t seem to cross that mother-figure bridge and pull him out. When “The Whisperer” starts to enter Michael’s dreams and visions things take a frightening turn. Michael’s past is coming back to

Fifteen-year-old Michael Turcotte lives in Fall River, Massachusetts with his guardian Detective Samantha Reilly. When Michael was three his parents were involved in a murder-suicide and Sam had been keeping an eye on Michael all through the foster care system. After the events in Seeing Evil, Sam becomes his guardian, but they are having difficulty finding a comfortable even ground. When Michael is kidnapped Sam breaks out all the stops to

Review: HEARING EVIL by Jason Parent
(Cycle of Evil Book 2)

Michael Turcotte is one of the Gifted who experiences future visions, at the cost of seizures each time. To prevent the visions, he wears gloves and scrupulously avoids touch. In the foster care system since the tragic deaths of his parents when he was only 3, at fifteen Michael is now in the care of his guardian angel, the detective who investigated his parents' case. She knows about Michael's gift, but unfortunately so do some vicious v

Hearing Evil, book 2 in the Cycle of Evil series, is a fantastic follow up to Seeing Evil. Jason Parent books are always fun but this series keeps me glued to the pages. Sam and Michael feel like real people, people who you’ve come to know and care about. Sam has become Michael’s guardian and my heart broke for both of them as they struggle to define the place they hold both in each other’s lives and hearts. To complicate matters, Michael is struggling to live with his psychic abilities, and jus ...more

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I received a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I want to add this to my library in the future!

The cover is intense and grabs your attention!

This is the 2nd book in the series, and I would recommend reading the books in order. You will want to know what happened previously especially with the other kids. This is for adults

Reading the second book of series without reading the first is never a good idea. Whilst this book (the second in a series called Cycle of Evil), technically, does stand alone, I found it difficult to form a picture of the two main characters, Detective Sam Reilly and her ward, Michael. Their history and how he became her ward is an important part of their relationship and although, references are made, I think I would have benefitted from the full story.

That said, there was plenty of distracti

This book is the second in the series. The first book was Seeing Evil. I highly recommend reading it before you read this book. This book finds Michael Turcotte, the teenager who has visions of the future, living with Detective Sam Reilly, who has always had a soft spot for him since the day she found him as a toddler, at a murder scene. A shadow figure starts to communicate with him and says they have answers to his past and his future. Sam gets caught up in plan hatched by some crazy criminals ...more

While the first book in this series deals with the concept of the paranormal, its focus leaned more heavily towards the crime aspects and the gruesomeness of those crimes. This book heads deeper into the paranormal and steps away from the gruesome and the crime. Personally, I was a bit relieved by that.

At the same time, I didn’t like this one as much as the first because that shift more towards the paranormal brings with it an even bigger leap into over the top situations and scenarios, losing s

This second book in the Cycle of Evil series by Jason Parent was such an entertaining and engrossing read that I had to finish it without taking a break. I enjoyed the cat and mouse between both the physical and spiritual realms and players. And, of course you can't forget what a gift or curse, depending on your viewpoint, that Michael has, and how that either helps or hinders Sam in her quests for justice. This is a voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Hidden Gems Books ...more

I received a copy of this book to review. This book s the second book in a series. I have not read the first book so I didn’t have the advantage of the backstory. The book was complete enough to stand alone. Very believable and likeable characters. I’m interested to read the other books in this series.

Good read

In the sequel to seeing evil Michael continues his battle with his visions while Sam the detective tries to help. A lot of danger stands in their way and more questions arise, looking forward to the next book in the series!

This is book two of the Cycle of Evil series and follows Michael and his life with his new yet unofficial foster mum, Detective Sam Reilly. In this book, Michael is searching for ways to be rid of his ‘gift’ – the ability to see people’s future fate by simply touching them – he classes it as a curse and does everything he can to avoid even accidental touch with anyone. Now it’s the summer break from school and he decides to use his free time looking for answers to what happened to his parents.

I got this book for free in return for a honest review. I really enjoyed the plot and the characters. The story takes you on a journey of several life’s. There is no overkill on point of view changes. The writing is realistic and what I think to be accurate on how some people would act in these situations. The ending did not have as much as a band as I would have liked, but it did end in a way you know there is more to come in the story. I hope Michael’s friend is okay and they can help her bef ...more
