It's almost impossible to surprise us, but this story did. One of the books you feel different after finishing than while reading it. Last chapters changed the whole meaning and the message of it.
It was a 3-stars read till before the end. Damn, Alex is still shocked!
The last twist turned it upside down. I won't spoil it.
This is the first book I've read by Kelly Moore and I have mixed feelings on how I should review it. I may ramble a little in the following so you guys will just have to deal. 😉 Overall I'm going to give this book 3.5 stars. It was a good and I was immediately hooked when I started reading the prologue. I was around half way through when it became just "meh" for me. Then I get toward the end I was back in the game. For me personally, there was just something missing and the book just plateaued. So let me begin with what I love about the book. I enjoyed the spontaneous development of Maggie and Will's relationship. The circumstances were a bit less than ideal but I think that's what intrigued me and the author made it work. The ending is another part I loved. I had a few questions, by this time, and the surprise twist made Fade into Nothing memorable for me. The book is definitely a good read and I recommend it to anyone that comes across my review. The storyline was different so it's not another cookie cutter romance. It does touch base on addiction and there are parts in the book that are heartbreaking. If your a sensitive soul then I advise you to have Kleenex available. I do look forward to diving into Kelly's other books and seeing what else she has in her arsenal. Buy the book, I hope you enjoy, and be sure to leave the author a review.
Maggie knows what it feels like to fade into nothing. She's living together with her brother Lip in their rundown apartment. Their mother passed away as the result of an overdose and their father is in prison, so they only have each other. Maggie and Lip have very few possessions and try to survive day by day. They seek an escape of their constant struggles in drugs. All they want is relief from the pain and heartache. Maggie knows that this lifestyle can't continue and tries to convince her brother that they're cut out for bigger things. Can they find a way to overcome their addiction and become who they were once destined to be?
Maggie and Lip have been through so much together. They depend on each other and didn't get the tools from their parents to grow up differently. To avoid their true feelings they seek refuge in the only thing they know and have seen in their young lives. Maggie wants to get high just one last time, but it all goes wrong. When she wakes up she remembers nothing about the way her life was before but she still has scars to prove what she did. Will they be able to rise above their struggles before there's nothing left to save?
Maggie is on her way to a house that she's renting for the summer. She's never been on a train before and when a stranger sits down across from her she's immediately taken by how handsome he is. Will is on his way home to attend the funeral of his brother. He's heartbroken and needs somebody to lean on. Maggie and Will have an instant connection and they know that what they're feeling is very special. Maggie has always been the logical one, but she throws caution to the wind and decides to go with Will. Has she finally found her true destiny?
Fading Into Nothing is a moving story about dealing with addiction, grief and true love. It's a gripping book with lots of surprises. Maggie and Lip are so close and I could feel the desperation about their current situation. My heart wept for these two young people and I wished for them to overcome their issues. Every time I thought I had it al figured out, Kelly Moore managed to blow me away by throwing in an unexpected twist. Her stories are always full of emotion and she addresses a lot of difficult topics, but they never overpower the good. Fading Into Nothing is bittersweet, it moved me to tears, but it also put a big smile on my face. Maggie and Will touch each other's soul on a deeper level and my heart was overflowing with joy for them both. Kelly Moore is one of my favorite authors and I highly recommend any book that she has ever written.
A good, entertaining read and it flowed well. I liked Maggie and Will's unique characters. This would've been 4 stars if not for the.. you know.🧐
~ Years ago, I remember watching a daily soap opera. For 3 episodes, the protagonist went through lots of emotional scenes, actions and drama. Then on the 4th episode, the protagonist woke to the scene prior to the last 3 episodes, then told some characters to do/not do this and that. I was stressed from the emotional rollercoaster ride for 3 days while the protagonist was snoozing and had the most exciting dream. Had I known it was a manipulative plot dream, I wouldn't have watched those "dream" episodes. 😒
A case of It's just me, not you. 🙃
I'm aware it's fiction, all right. BUT I got emotionally attached to the characters because of the ups and downs they went thru, only to find out that those ups and downs, along with some characters, were just a freakin dream or some kind of escape from reality experience.
Should I sigh with relief that some of the sad events haven't actually happened? That a certain character did not actually die? Huh. There goes my invested emotions just went down the drain.
I don't like IWAJAD or it-was-all-just-a-dream trope where majority of the story is not the reality, and conflicts are wrapped up by "waking up" the MC. That's a bold plot manipulation. If I have to read one, I'd prefer it on fantasy/ psychological-thriller-suspense-mystery. Much better if there's an IWAJAD warning so I can avoid it, but then where's the twist fun in that? 🙂
Wait. There's still a story here tho. Two chapters left and h's finally back to reality, she woke to the scene in the prologue. Then it became a rapid telling of h's "clean" and better life. The dream somehow helped her overcome her personal issues, I guess. Time jump years later, she met the "reality" counterpart of H and other characters. Maybe what she had was a precognitive dream or something. I still didn't like that I "mourned" over a character that's actually alive, and the dream fake drama.🤦🏻♀️
Sigh, if only all those "snoozing" chapters are "reality" instead of just the last two chapters. 😬 Then again, where's the shock fun in that?
Safe? Some OW drama BUT don't stress cuz it's just a 💤💤💤! 😁 Explicit scenes H/h only. Hey, it was a hot dream. 😅 Drug OD, sibling death (the "alive" in 💤, h's brother). The dead sibling in 💤 (H's brother) is alive and kicking in reality.

This book really brings the reader into the world of addiction and the struggles that go along with it. Love how Maggie had a dream about the man who would be her soulmate. Will and Maggie are perfect together and for each other. Kelly Moore has delivered another beautiful story about a tough topic and another 5-star read! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ok the author is new to me and all I can say is WOW!!!!
This book has every kind of emotion you can imagine coming from me, I laughed and scared my cats while I was at it, I cried because of all of the heartbreak in this book and I loved how strong the love was in this book. Plus the chemistry between Mags and Will is just what you would expect with soul mates.
You have got to read this book to get everything I have left out of this review and I promise it is a book worth reading.
Kelly Moore is one of my favorite authors and once again she has proven to me why she is. What a read is all I can say and the plot is one that I have not read anywhere else...a true original in my mind. First there’s Maggie aka Mags who has problems, her life and her brother’s is a mess and it doesn’t seem like she can pull herself or him out of the gutter. Then there’s Will and the man we are introduced to is, kind, loving, compassionate, with a heart of gold and Mags’s soulmate. Their romance is beautiful with only a few bumps in the road, his life is great except for a couple things, his brother’s fate and his dad’s coldness. Even with those in the picture, their love blossoms towards a HEA only found in fairytales. Until her past comes back and her life flashes before her eyes....what is real and what isn’t. HOLY WOW, AMAZING, WOW !!!! This is one of those reads that I wish I could write a review with everything that I LOVED about this read but it would give away too many spoilers and this is one of those reads to go into blind, just to be blown away like I was. I can say there was humour that had me chuckling and laughing out loud, as this author proves time and again how flawless it comes across. There’s steam oh my is there steam and attraction, sparks and fireworks that fly off the pages. There’s heartache and heartbreak that only make the characters that much stronger, believable and real. Then there’s a twist I didn’t see coming which made me go WOW WOW WOW once again and which makes this story original in my eyes. 5 stars does not give this read justice and once again KUDOS to the author...just WOW !!!
I read this book as part of an arc program. I loved this very emotional book about a former drug addict named Maggie. Maggie grew up with her brother Lip after her mother OD'd and her father went to prison for dealing drugs. Both Maggie and Lip were heroin addicts and living in squalor. When the story picks up later, Maggie is in recovery and is now an elementary teacher who is on her way to vacation in a small coastal town. When she is riding on the train, a handsome stranger sits next to her and starts talking to her. Will is on his way home to Savannah for his brother's funeral. Will senses a connection to Maggie and they end up talking the whole trip. When Will asks Maggie to go to Savannah with him, she agrees. They are friends but have great chemistry and an instant connection. After the funeral, Maggie continues on to her vacation, with the idea to contact Will when she returns to New York. A few weeks into Maggie's vacation, Will shows up and wants to spend the summer with her. They have a great time and become very good friends with Hank, the owner of the general store. This book touches on addiction and family problems. I loved how Will and Maggie were meant to be. I loved how they helped each other through their issues. This book will make you want to cry at times and the characters will stay with you. I loved this book. Great story.
“Hope” is the thing with feathers - That perches in the soul - And sings the tune without the words - And never stops - at all - E Dickinson
This book broke my heart and then sewed it back together. This is my first book by Kelly Moore, but it will certainly not be my last. I cannot even begin to describe the story of Will and Maggie. To say this story is one of the most original storylines that I have ever read would be speaking the truth. It is hard to write my review and not give away anything from the story and trust me, you don’t want me to ruin this for you. I was reading and thought I had some things figured out and I was so wrong! The way this author weaves this tale is mind blowing. The subject matter is so intense with drugs, death, mental health and HOPE. It is the hope we cling to as the story unfolds. I loved this book and highly recommend it.
I don’t even know where to begin. This book had me sad, happy, mad, blown away! It’s very different and as I was reading, thinking I knew what was happening - oh boy was I wrong. Kelly threw me. Fading Into Nothing is a beautiful story of addiction, family dynamics, love, dreams. It’s real and raw. I loved everything about this story especially the wonderful characters Kelly has created!
Another amazing book from Kelly Moore. I absolutely love how unique all of Kelly’s books are. This one is yet another fantastic read with real people, awesome plot twists & fantastic characters that you can’t help but fall in love with.
Be prepared to have your heart broken and then glued back together. This book had me in tears for most of it, in the best way. I love it when Kelly is diving into difficult topics. This book is NOT for the faint of heart.
Kelly Moore has written such an amazing book. “Fading into Nothing” had me hooked from the first page and I couldn't put it down. The characters made this a very enjoyable, engaging, thought provoking story. They really pulled me in and kept me engrossed in their story, I loved reading about them. This is an Emotional, Entertaining, Must Read Book and I would recommend it. I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book
Kelly Moore keeps surprising me with each book of hers I read. Fading Into Nothing was no exception. This is an emotional book that will have your emotions all over the place. All of the characters are absolutely amazing and you will be sucked into this book from the very beginning. I’m not leaving any spoilers, but I will tell you there’s a twist that I never saw coming. I highly recommend this book and I can’t wait to see what Kelly has for us next.
OK, I will warn you now – strap yourself in and get your heart ready for a roller coaster! This book was absolutely beautiful and wonderfully written; my heart soared and broke right along with the wonderful characters. I read this in one sitting and am now trying to get over the hangover my heart is suffering from this book. An amazing story about addiction, filled with love, loss and redemption. I would highly recommend this book! I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Really enjoyed this book. Found it hard to put it down. Very emotional read. Not your typical love story, makes you think about some darker issues but was done in a very tasteful way. Great chemistry between Maggie and Will. Loved them! Was cheering them on the whole way through. Also has a surprising twist at the end! Would definitely recommend this book.
This latest by Kelly Moore is definitely not your typical romance novel. There is a very big twist, that I for one never saw coming! Great characters with an engaging story line that pulled me in immediately. So much so that I read the book in one sitting.
I was absolutely blown away by Maggie’s story! The path that leads Maggie and Will together is not without its secrets and mysteries. It’s the shocking twists and turns that make this a must read. I wish I could say more but it would completely ruin the experience for you. Definitely 5 stars!
fade into nothing was a new to me author. if Kelly writes all her books this way I will definitely be reading more. mags and will have a great story finding each other on the opposite side of the tracks.
This is the first book that I have read by Author Kelly Moore and this will not be my last. Fading Into Nothing was an emotional read that dealt with some heavy issues. From the prologue alone I was completely sucked in. It was intense and so real. I knew from that moment I this book would be one that was filled with emotions, but I never expected the twist that completely took my by surprise!!
Maggie has had a rough life. When her mother passed away when she was young it was just her and her brother trying to survive. They didn’t have much but that had each other, all though I am not sure that that was the best for them. Maggie has rented a place to spend her summer. On the train ride there she meets Will, someone who she instantly connects with. She has never been on a train before but sitting next to Will eased her mind. When he invites het to come with him to his parents house for a few days she decides to ay the heck with it and take him up on his offer. She has never been one to be so spontaneous but there is something about Will that makes her feel comfortable and safe. Should she trust her instincts when it comes to Will? Is this where she really belongs, with Will? Will this be where she finds her happiness? You will have to read the book to find out.
I really enjoyed this book and love Will and Maggie together. From the moment the met I felt the connection. Maybe it was a bit fast and you wonder why would Maggie go home with a complete stranger. But I admit there was something about Will and it was as if these two knew each other for years.
Will was sweet and kind and I felt for him and what he has been through. Maggie has been through so much in her life and seeing her happy with Will just made you happy for her. I loved everything about their relationship.
This story was emotional at times but never too overwhelming considering the topic. There was a twist that Ms. Moore snuck in that complete surprised me. I never saw it coming. Even at the end I was still trying to figure out how I felt about it. lol I loved the book and look forward to reading more from this author.
I was given an ARC and here's my honest review. OMG! I LOVED IT! To be honest, this is my first book from Kelly Moore, it was love at first sight with the cover, so I really wanted to know the story behind it. Then I started to read and that Prologue caught me immediately, I've read a fair amount of drug-related scenes but the feelings on this one, it was like I was right there with them. So I keep on reading and I found a nice story. I'm not too much into this kind of love, but I enjoy the characters and the surroundings described (I really yearned for the beach), their second chances and their relationships. But then it happened, that unexpected twist, it blew my mind, it was WOW!! Well done, Kelly!! 4.5 stars! =)
Fading into Nothing is the upcoming release from Kelly Moore that deals with addiction, life, death, and “what if?” This is the story of seventeen-year-old Mags and her brother Phillip (Lip) and the night that everything goes wrong. Years later, Mags has gotten a degree in elementary education and is on her way to a small coastal town in North Carolina when she meets a man named Will on the train. For reasons she doesn’t even understand herself, Mags takes a detour on her trip, heading to Savannah with Will. Call it fate, destiny, whatever you want, but that moment changes everything in Mags’ life.
Let me start by saying that I have read this novel several times already, yet each time I notice new things that make me love it all the more. Typical of Kelly Moore, the characters are beautifully complex and flawed, while still appealing and relatable. Mags experiences a tremendous loss at the beginning of the novel and when we meet her again years later, she has made great achievements towards her career, yet still seems reserved, quietly battling inner demons and ghosts. However, upon meeting the charismatic and outgoing Will, I slowly noticed Mags coming out of her shell and experiencing life and joy for the first time.
Fading into Nothing is difficult to categorize, however, I would say that it’s mix of romance, coming of age, fantasy and suspense. That may sound like somewhat of an odd combination, but Kelly Moore has provided readers with the gift of a fresh and unique plot, sensational writing, and a thoughtful and stirring plot making the novel impossible to put down. This is not a smooth or straightforward romance where boy meets girl, they fall in love and live happily ever after. If you enjoy a good plot twist, I assure you that this novel includes some shockers that you will never see coming. Prepare for your jaw to hit the floor once or twice during this novel, but rest assured that Moore will wrap everything up into a marvelous conclusion.
Fading into Nothing is comprised of so many different themes and touches on numerous emotions. Some of the events are painful and heartbreaking, but overall, this novel speaks of love, life, starting again, and second chances. It is sad, romantic, uplifting, surprising, and magical - all at once. Kelly Moore continues to amaze and inspire me with the creativity and passion she puts into her writing. Fading into Nothing is yet another example of what a phenomenal writer she is, as well as, her continued commitment to wowing her readers.
This book is very different from what I normally read. When I first started reading it, I thought “what kind of book is this?” Once I got into it, I liked it very much. It starts with a 17 year old Maggie Harper living in squalor with her older brother and both are taking hard drugs. Their parents did the same thing and Maggie always told herself she would never be like them, but her she is. They both shout up and something is wrong with the drug and things get weird. A few years later Maggie is an elementary teacher and has rented a place on the shore in North Carolina. She is taking a train from New York to North Carolina and meets Will Taylor who is going to Georgia to his brother’s funeral. Will talks her into going to his home in Savannah, Georgia for a few days before going on to North Carolina. The dynamics between him and his mother are good, but with his father bad. Maggie and he get close for the few days, but she still goes on down to North Carolina.
Maggie and Will were so good for each other. I enjoyed seeing the two fall in love, and how they built the other up. I loved Hank who owed the store and deli in the small town. There are some surprises in the book, especially near the end. Part of the book was sad, but the overall feeling at the end was happy. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of the book.
A wonderful well written like no other story with romance. There are plot twists that shock and surprise you, leaving you on the edge of your seat not wanting to be disturbed. It has heartbreaking and painful events but it also grips you with love, addiction, romance, rehab, second chances, starting over, and loss to the point it seems to feel magical. The characters are complex and broken. In addition to following Will and Mags hot steamy connection and romance you are also very involved and finding out and supporting many of the other characters. Mags and her brother, Lip have been thru alot being poor, addicted and having horrible role models that have oded and left them struggling with great pain. Mags on a train to summer rental has a gorgeous man, Will sit across from her the connection changes their lives, they are so good for each other. This is really a hard book to summarize because so much happens but if flows and moves so smoothly it is a definite must read. One of those stories that every time you read you find or connect something different making it 10 times more enjoyable than the 100 times it already was. Click today you won't be dissappointed. I voluntarily reviewed this ARC but will definetly be adding it to my library
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I was given an ARC and here's my honest review. When I started reading this book the prologue captivated me and I started guessing what could have come afterwards. Certainly I didn't expect what I read next! This is not the first book of Kelly Moore that I read, so I expected a turning point, tension, emotions flowing,...and got no such things for the most part of the story. Let me clarify: the story was really nice, sometimes events occurred too smoothly to be real, but all in all it was a nice story. That's it: nice. It lacked that big something that Kelly always gives to her readers, it was plain, I didn't feel it. I must be sincere here and tell that I was almost disappointed when I read almost the whole book and see nothing happen... And then...and then!!! When you don't expect anything more, you hit that big something!! Or better that big something hits you!!! Your attention is picked, the tension builds quickly, you feel that part as real, you are in the story and share the emotions of the main character, and the story comes alive. That's it Kelly Moore did it again! I don't know if I should tell her that she's brilliant or if I should start telling her she's cruel for having waited so long in the book to actually reveal the truth!!! The ability of this writer is to build up all kind of emotions in such a short space! She gets 5 stars and if you'll read this book you'll get a wonderful story!
LIVING THE DREAM!!! Ok guys, this is a tough one. I have tried to write this review a number of times, but I felt off. Not sure how to explain the feelings rushing through as I read each word. Its a gut wretching, heartbreaking tale. Then you get a glimpse of happier times. Kelly really has a remarkable talent for weaving words and worlds together so realistically that you get lost in the storyline and become apart of it instead of on the sidelines reading it. I'm not sure where she gets her inspiration but it truly boggles the mind of the strenght she exhibits here. The characters are intriguing, relatable with true to life experiences. They carry such a broad range of personalities as each one shows depth and individuality. There a varying twists and turns that keep you captivated as each character transforms as the tale unfolds. The scenes were so vividly detailed and descriptive that it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. I can only wish that dreams really did come true especially for someone who suffered for so long at such a young age. Its heartwarming when a recovering addict gets help and pull themselves together and better their lives. Phenomenal job Kelly, thanks for sharing this remarkable read with us.
