Rate this book

I was a child when I've read this. I've found the first part entertaining, the second... less so. I was surprised and puzzled by the communism in it.

See, it's all about this actor (mexican?) that's ugly and deformed as hell. Hugely successful, too, as the public finds his ugliness funny. One day he decides to correct the nature's errors -- and be rebuilt wholesale in a miracle plastic surgery clinic.

He's a young, dashing don juan now. The career is in question though, as he's great asset, his ugly face, is no more. Not a problem! The solution: a colhoz. In the movie industry no less, an enterprise where the employee-associates are not paid for what they bring to the game, but by what they need. It turns out that was exactly what was missing in public entertaining, and after an unsteady start, the success comes thunderous.
