Forty years ago Lexi Barstow and Collins Wentworth thought they had made the biggest mistakes of their lives. Heartbreaking choices and bitter tears cemented a pact that would shape who they were and what they would be. But now so much has changed...except the passion they share and the differences between them. But some things are fixable, and with forever staring them hard in the face, they learn all their decisions brought them to this place...an ever after filled with love.
Author of over forty romance novels, Emily Mims combined her writing career with a career in public education until leaving the classroom to write full time. In addition to eighteen Candlelight Ecstasy Romances under the pen name 'Emily Elliott', she has written two series under her own name, the Texas Hill Country series and the Smoky Blue series, and has completed four books in the Durango Street Theatre series. The mother of two sons and grandmother to six, she and her husband Charles split their time between San Antonio and their lake home in the Texas Hill Country, and make frequent trips to Tennessee to see grandchildren. When not busy at the word processor, she plays the piano, organ and dulcimer. She plays her ukulele with two singing groups and has even been known to sing a song or two at the mic. She says, "I love to write romances because I believe in them. Romance happened to me and it can happen to any woman-if she'll just let it."
This was a nice refreshing story about an older couple rather than the typical young love that most romances depict. Forty years ago, Lexi and Collin had an affair which resulted in a pregnancy. At the time, Lexi was married and Collin was engaged. They ended up parting and going their separate ways, and after all these years Collin wants to be part of Lexi's life again but Lexi is still angry with him. Their story takes you on an emotional ride as you read through the twists and turns that ultimately lead them to their final destination. The story is definitely a page-turner, and one I could not put down. Definitely a well-written book with an interesting story line. The characters are wonderful and the story flows smoothly. I enjoyed reading this story.

I have just finished this book and it was refreshing to read about a much older couple and their love story. This story was about Lexi and Collins who had an affair whilst she was married and he was engaged. She became pregnant and they parted. Obviously, that wasn't just it but you will have to read this book to find out more. Forty years had passed and Collins wanted a relationship with Lexi. Lexi on the otherhand was angry with him and he had to try and get her to get past this. A lovely emotional story about family and fitting in and self esteem. Characters with a connection you could feel and embrace their emotions. A lovely book.

This story tore at my heart when years ago Lexi who is a married up and coming musician and Collin who engaged and working on his political career meet and have a short hot fling. Lexi ends up pregnant but when they meet to discuss what they will do it is decided that he will walk away and she will stay with her husband and he agreed to raise the baby has his own. Forty years later her husband is dead and Senator Collin is divorced and it has come out that he is the father of her daughter. He always loved Lexi and now that they are both free he wants a future with her but she does not think he fits into his Washington scene. Loved this story and the characters.
This is book eight in The Smokey Blues Series and it is Lexi and Collins story and it was so refreshing to read about a older couple and all that they have gone through in there lives to eventually get a happy ending. There are twists and turns that make this book a must read and a real page turner because you need to know what will happen next. The eighth book in The Smoky Blues series a well written story that had a very good storyline. I was not putting this book down until I had finished reading. This is Lexi Barstow and Collins Wentworth who separated forty years ago when she was married to Johnny Barstow, but pregnant with his daughter. Johnny is now dead and Collin is divorced, and Collin wants back in Lexi's life. Lexi will have alot to forgive, before she can let him back in her life. I want to read the next book. This is the story of Lexi and Collins. Forty years have passed since they had their affair. Now Collins wants a relationship with Lexi but she’s been angry with him for a while. Can he get her to forgive him? I enjoyed the many twists and turns this story takes to get to their present situation. I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
If you want to lose yourself in a great series...give this one a go!
Characters that are easy to root for and all that swirls around them in the storylines are super interesting. Some great ins and outs, twists and turns. It's simply REALLY GOOD STORYTELLING.

Love never really goes away, it changes. Some times it gets stronger, or becomes familial, or friendship. In this story it just hung in there for 40 years waiting for it time to shine.

Time has past, but is it enough to get over the anger? Lexi and Collins' tale has taken the long path, and along the way there have been the twist and turns of life, but now can they have something special.
