I think I expected this book to be more fantasy than it currently is. It started very slow for my liking, and I think if it wasn't all the PR campaign and the interest that's built on Social media, if this was a book I've myself picked, I'd probably give up around 20%. But I continued reading because I was really intrigued, also the reviews are really good for this book. Sadly I will not join the fan base, this time. The idea of "Binding" is really creative but ...more

It is also one of the most beautiful proof copies I've ever seen.
You need to read this book. You just don’t know it yet.
This is going to be a difficult review for me due to the fact that I absolutely loved the book and I’m probably not going to make it justice with a written r ...more

The Binding is one of those novels that will stay with you for the rest of your life. It will pop up in your head every few weeks and make you think a reevaluate morality and choices. It will make you question all previous assumptions. It will make you challenge your own beliefs.

It is the story of Emmett Farmer, a young man who, after suffering from a terrible illness, becomes apprenticed to the local book binder. But in this world, books do not hold mere words nor histories. No, books hold memories. And once a person's memory is bound, it no longer belongs to them, and bec ...more
This book was incredible.
My favourite read of this year, and I can’t wait for it to be released in January so that everyone else can read it too!
It was utterly absorbing and enthralling from beginning to end. I loved everything about it; the characters were vivid, honest and fully rounded, the plot had just the right amount of twists and turns and I loved the premise on which the whole book is set around ...more
What I enjoyed most about this book is how much it surprised me. At first I thought I knew what was happening, but I didn't. And every time I got my feet under me in the narrative, it would shift to something new. The fantasy element (which I won't spoil) is both a familiar trope and a modern twist, the kind that will make you wonder what you would do if it was real.
There's real stakes and serious issues here, but I found the ...more
Isn’t it awesome when you are granted a copy to read and review before most folk get to read it? (Thank you Harper Collins and Edelweiss+)
Isn’t it amazing when you love it even MORE than you thought humanly possible?
Isn’t it brilliant to be able to shout about it and tell people how amazing it is? And isn’t it hard to find the right words to do it justice?
To say I adored this book is a gross understatement, I devoured it an ...more
As an ex-bookbinder and coming from a bookbinding family, I really enjoyed this read. Our bindings are quite the same as those portrayed in the book but it was nice reading about the physical skills associated with it and the paring of the leather. Ahhh....it brought back memories.
This is an interesting book that takes a small amount of time to build and come into itself. We know that binders are special people and they protect the books with all ...more
