Mixed thoughts- Parts were good but parts got plenty of eye rolls.
The first thing that struck me and frustrated me a lot was the amount of repetitive thoughts and conversations that occurred with in the first third of the book. I wanted to love this book and love the characters but this made it very difficult.

It got so annoying and frustrating that I almost stopped reading the story. After all, a 12-year-old was done wrong and 20 years later you still hold a grudge and want to get b

Gripping, menacing, and taut!

Stroke of Luck is a seductive, riveting whodunit that takes us to Glacier Park, Montana where the strong, confident Poppy is determined to show her unrequited teen crush precisely what he missed out on, and the easy-going, rugged Will is struggling to keep his visitors and those he loves safe with a killer on the prowl.

The writing is sharp and crisp. The characters are complex, secretive, and intriguing. And the plot is a passionate tale filled with twists, turns, fa

Fair and honest review. Well, I didn't really like this one, which is really tough to say because B.J. Daniels is an author I've read and loved for years. "Stroke of Luck" just wasn't up to her usual high standard. It has a great plot but the characters are stilted and one dimensional. I just wasn't feeling the happy childhood summer or the young teen angst that was the foundat

B. J. Daniels has always been a "go-to read" for me and once again delivers on a romantic suspense with a white-out blizzard setting in Montana on a large vacation Ranch Retreat that has isolated the guests and staff at the Sterling Ranch and one of them is a killer ... or is there several killers?

The chemistry between Will Sterling, the ranch owner, and Poppy Carmichael, his once childhood friend/love now hired to cater the event, was strong; the romance was well worth the wait; and the ending

Will is opening his guest ranch earlier than he’d like as a special request for a long-time customer, Big Jack, the owner of a fly-fishing gear company. He wants to take a few select employees for this trip, and it was clear from the beginning this group was going to be trouble. Normally Will wouldn’t open in March since Montana weather can still be pretty brutal, and snowstorms are not uncommon. His ranch is off the beaten path so a storm could potentially strand everyone up there, so
I requested and was given a copy of this book, via NetGalley. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.

This is a romantic suspense with a blizzard isolating the guests and staff at the Sterling Ranch with a killer amongst them . . . . and a temporary chef who may be vengeful after being scorned by the ranch owner when she was twelve and he was fifteen!

Will Sterling endeavours to ensure his first set of guests have a stay they'll never forget. However, he hadn't anticipated

I would honestly hesitate to call this book a romance novel. It was more like a classic “whodunit” mystery with a second chance romance subplot. I like mysteries and some thrillers. But when I pick up a romantic suspense novel, I always expect the romance to come before the suspense, or at least be intertwined in an exciting way. STROKE OF LUCK’s plot revolves around a group of employees going to a remote ranch for a retreat. While there, company mysteries start surfacing and the group realizes ...more
A 2nd chance at romance teeming with suspense, danger and exciting, action-packed scenes...

If he’d forgotten that shy twelve-year-old whose heart he’d broken, well, she’d be happy to remind him.

Stroke of Luck heralds the opening salvo in B.J. Daniels’ new Sterling’s Montana series. Teeming with suspense, danger, and exciting, action-packed scenes, this first installment features Will Sterling and Poppy Carmichael. They were childhood friends, but their parting twenty years ago was not pretty.

3 " a book she hadn't read yet." Stars

Having read a couple of cowboy romance books from this author before I was excited to start a new series of the same ilk. Except what I got was a lot more than just romance. This was a crime drama and mystery moreso than a romance. The story engaged me and the characters were all well-rounded.

The author writes from the third person with a multitude

Will Sterling and Poppy Carmichael have a history. Poppy had a massive crush on fifteen year old Will when she was a young girl. Like most fifteen year olds, he was only interested in the younger Poppy as a friend. Flash forward twenty years. Will runs his father’s vacation ranch and Poppy has started her own catering business. When Big Jack Hanson, a friend of Will’s father, requests that Will open the ranch before the season begins for a company retreat, he is hesitant, but caves in to the req ...more

Wonderful beginning to a new series! It's more suspense than romance, which is fine with me. Will and Poppy have been childhood friends so they already have some history. When a murder occurs on the ranch, there's no telling who can be trusted. This is sure to be a great series with Ms. Daniels' trademark ranchers.

Good combination of second chance romance and romantic suspense. Will is the oldest of the Sterling brothers and the one who has taken on the running of the family guest ranch since their father's death. He has been waiting for his chance, as he and his father used to butt heads over the differences in their visions. When an old family friends contacts Will and asks him to open the ranch early for a business retreat, Will is reluctant but agrees to do so. Family housekeeper Dorothea predicts tro ...more

Will Sterling was asked by Big Jack Hanson, a friend of Will's late father's, to let him use the Sterling Montana Guest Ranch for a retreat in the off-season. Will was reluctant, fearing an unexpected snow storm, and with his cook sidelined with a broken leg, it was less than ideal. Will's brother Garrett suggests he ask Poppy Carmichael, who owns a catering business. Given what had happened when they last saw each other, Will is not exactly enthused but he needs a cook. It's only four days afte ...more
I have an affection for cowboys that knows no boundaries, so when I saw this book available for request at Netgalley, I jumped on it.  If you could look at my Netgalley shelf (and well, honestly, my physical bookshelf at home), you'd see exactly how much this appeals to me.  Also, I've heard a ton of good things about B. J. Daniels over the years and I thought that I should finally check her out for myself.

Anyway, I'm not sure where to start this review.  So much happened in this book!  I went i

I can always count on BJ Daniels to give me a great romantic suspense novel and that's just what I got with this book! A great way to start out the new year! It's also the beginning of a new series. Will is the oldest brother who has taken over running the family guest ranch. He has been looking forward to running the guest ranch by himself since his father passed on because he wants to make some changes. However, when an old friend of his father's wants to bring his company's employees up to th ...more

Reviewed on,
This is the first book I have read of B.J.Daniels and didn’t know what to expect, I admit I fell in love with cover and the blurb. So I was expecting a cowboy romance, but this was so much more. We have Poppy who has come back to Whitefish Montana to start her catering business.
Will runs the Guest Ranch Retreat, and its his first year and they have opened early for a special client. A four day work retreat, what could go wrong. The cook has broken his leg, and

In B.J. Daniels's Stroke of Luck, another installment in the Sterling's Montana romantic suspense series, this would have you at the edge of your seat and buckle up for a thrill ride. When Poppy Carmichael received a call from Will Sterling to help temporary cater and cook at his guest ranch, she accepted and gave up with a plan. As a little girl, she had a big time crush on Will, who later broke her heart. Now years later, she runs a successful catering company and plans to put a spell over him ...more

B.J. Daniels is known for her line of romantic suspense with Harlequin, and I have enjoyed past books of hers. Stroke of Luck, which begins her new Sterling's Montana series, misses the mark in two respects for me.

First off, the characterization frequently felt "off." When I read a rugged cowboy thinking that a meatball is "divine," I figure that someone in the publication of this book wasn't paying attention. I don't know anyone in my life who would say "divine" about anything withou

Wil and Poppy had a young love years ago and it ended on a bad note, Wil broke Poppys heart and she was determined not to let him do it again. However things do not always go as planned. Wil is having as a bit of bad luck he is running his families ranch and his cook gets hurt so he needs Poppy I mean he could handle four days with her, and so he thinks. As these do spend time together things start heating up but do they really have time to devote to it because they are surrounded by danger and ...more
Never read the synopsis. Saw that it had a cowboy on the cover and knew I wanted to read it. Shallow, I know. But I’m not disappointed one little bit.

This was an enjoyable suspenseful book with a smidgen of romance sprinkled on top. Did I wish it had more than a sprinkle? You bet. But with the amount of action and intrigue happening, I probably would’ve rolled my eyes if there was. This story had no time for romance.

I am glad I read it and I look forward to reading to the next one in the serie

I love a good cowboy/ranching story! And this is definitely one of those! And the start of a new series, what could be better? That didn't sell you? Add in that it's a second chance romance - kinda. Now you're in? Good, go get it! February 19th - mark your calendar!

If you like mystery and intrigue in your romance, this is the one for you. Especially because Will, Poppy and the other guests of the ranch are forced together while there's a blizzard coming. And add in that Poppy wants to avemge her
I quite enjoyed the mystery parts of this (I mean, it's an isolated/snow-in hotel trope... that is my actual catnip), but found the romance component to be pretty lacking. I found myself wishing this was just a straight up mystery. Still, all in all a pleasant romp of a book (which is a weird thing to say given the body count)
I have no idea how I feel about this book.

The story centers around a getaway for a company during the snowy season in Montana. As a snowstorm hits the ranch, the guests are stuck with each other. They fight and complain a lot. Soon they are killed, one by one. The author throws us a few clues along the way. It's a simple romance and a simple mystery.
At the same time, the two main characters fight and fall in love. He loves the way she cooks. So the book provides recipes at the end. The romance is weak. No passion at all.

I have read many books by B.J. Daniels over the years but I haven't really reviewed any on my blog.

I usually enjoy her books very much but I found this one lacking in the romance part. There was just a tiny bit of romance but the suspense was good. I did like the main characters.

Would I read the next book? It was good enough for me to read the next book in the series.

I am going to give this 3 out of 5.

When I’m ready for romantic suspense, BJ Daniels is my go to author. Her books are addicting. I can always count on lots of twists, turns, and surprises. She has such a gift for telling heart pounding and adrenaline rushing stories that you just can’t put down. And the evolving romance taking place in the midst of all the danger just makes the whole reading experience more thrilling.

Will Sterling was having a stroke of bad luck. This was his first time running the family guest ranch alone sin

Stroke of Luck is the first title in B.J. Daniels' new Sterling's Montana series, and since I've enjoyed so many of her novels, I was eager to get in at the start of a new series, but while there were parts of this novel that I really enjoyed, there were also parts that just didn't feel right to me, and for reasons I'll explain, I can only give this novel 3 stars.

Sterling's Montana centers around a remote Montana guest ranch high in the mountains, currently run by Will Sterling and a very small
