Lily and Tristan fell in love in the summer and lost each other by the winter. He was her world, and when he left it crashed down around her.
With the help of her friends, she tried to pick herself up, but Tristan’s memory won’t allow her to move on. In the years they were apart his star rose, reminding her daily of the love that crushed her.
Tristan came back into her life in the spring, but the woman he found was nothing like the girl he left behind.
Lily believed she was undeserving of happiness, a lesson learned from her callous husband. She knew she didn’t deserve his cruelty and summoned what was left of her strength for a chance of a better life for herself and her son.
Loving Lily threatened the life Tristan had built in the years they’d been apart. Could he convince her to give him a second chance when it felt like the world was determined to keep them apart?
This is a second chance romance. No cliffhanger. There are some sensitive topics that may trigger some readers. For readers 18+.
Kimberly Carrillo is a storyteller from the Pacific Northwest, currently living in a small town with her teenage son and a house full of pets. The author of the romantic suspense Destroy Series, and other books, Kimberly writes tales of beautiful, messy love. When she isn’t reading or out supporting her son at sports events she can be found moving a cat off her keyboard so she can help the heroine find the love that she deserves.
Throughout this whole book I just kept thinking it's a hot mess. Not great writing. The story line had something though. I felt a disconnect from both main characters. Too much back and forth with both of their decisions. But, the story itself had so much more potential.
*******THIS REVIEW IS FULL OF SPOILERS, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK****
I'm not a fan of this one. I could not connect to the characters. Firstly I have a hate for books where a girl has feeling ( love) a boy, but says nothing to him about her feelings and wen he dates other women she feels left out on the side and heart bruised and all that shit because oh wait this man must be a mind reader and should look at her eyes and just know. ( in this one, yes the friends had an inkling that she had feelings for him, actually seems like the whole bloody town knew our teenager at he time had the hots for Tristan. So pet peeve of no one says anything about feelings but expects the other person to magically know.
Tristan was an ass as a teen, because until she looked at and went off with another guy he was happy playing the best friends card then she looks ant another boy and suddenly he is in love and she is his. Great. They do that and of course over a summer they are together, but she is 17 and he not much older just graduated o he needs rally to grow up and find a job , so he leaves town and he states he doesn't want to settle so of course it's world over ( dramatic much) . They break up he leaves she finds out she has a bun in the oven, trues to call him, can't get on tells his dad, who of course does the old speaking for his son bit, but unfortunately she miscarries.
Now she grieves for her lost love and the child or a few years until she meets another man who she doesn't like at all, but uses, has sex with him, hates it and still marries him because he held her hand during her mom's cancer ( keep in mind she has really good girl friends who could have done the same without getting married) Few years later she still hates her husband, tolerates him, he obviously knows she doesn't and never did love him so he acts out ( cheats and for the last year of marriage emotionally abuse her)
When she gets sick and goes to the hospital, finds out she miscarried as well it all comes to a head so now her mom and friend finally persuades her to leave her husband (after getting the husband to confess to cheating and taping her phone and threaten violence with a judge on the other line of course)
Now of course going home means that she'll be with her mom who is now ill again and even worse than before, but soon it's not only her mom, but Tristan who is back. He comes in still having feelings and can't understand why she moved on so quickly and surprised that she was preggers ( dear old dad told a few porkies to his son here). As time goes on Tristan and Lily get closer, her mom passes and Tristan wants a future with her so it's flee from the paps, follow mom's last letter which is for them to love each other and try and get a divorce in here too.
Obviously nothing is easy, not even a HEA, so we have Henry (husband) come back , Tristan trying to end his career as a star and Lily not giving up or in. Ah well What's really funny is near the end we discover that she named her son after her Tristan.
Written in the 1st person point of view, the writer has succeeded in making her readers feel the main character's situation.
Lily is married to Henry, a man he does not really love but still managed to play the role of a good wife and a good mother to Matty. Her husband leaves all domestic and parenting responsibilities to her. Many times, Lily's mom and her best friend, Dee have advised her to leave her uncaring, indifferent, and unsupportive husband. But not until she learned of her mom's second bout with cancer and realized how her husband constantly made her feel small and unworthy did she finally leave.
Lily, is the main character in the story. I got to know her more intimately since the story is narrated from Lily's perspective. We get to know more of the other characters as they are introduced through Lily's memories from her youth. I love how the story unfolds and the sense of uncertainty as to how situations unfold. I was not able to tell beforehand how these events will turn. There were significant lessons I have learned too from Lily's character as well as her mom.
I definitely recommend this book for women and anyone who is looking to find worth and happiness. "Life hurts sometimes but we need not stop hunting butterflies because we'll miss out the tingles of excitement."
✅Unrequited love ✅Her mom does ✅Second chance ✅single parent
Tristan was Lilys entire world when he left it came crashing down. With the help of her friends she tried getting back up. When Tristan came back into her life she wasn’t the girl he remembered… she believed that she was undeserving of love according to her ex husband. Will Tristan be able to convince her to give them a second shot?!
Lily is our FMC she starts off being in a marriage she’s not happy in. She “hated the idea of hurting Henry, but she couldn’t be what he wanted. She thought she could convince herself to be with him, but in her efforts to heal her broken heart she shattered what was left of it” with the help of her mom she managed to get out with her son Matt. This is where she finds herself back in her hometown where she runs into Tristan who has been living the celebrity lifestyle…
This was my favourite quote "Life hurts sometimes, at least if you're doing it right. It's frightening and messy, but it's the stuff that scares us that makes living worth it. Don't avoid the hard parts to stay safe, because you'll miss all the tingles of excitement, too. Promise you'll never stop hunting butterflies, because that fluttering in the pit of your stomach is what makes the hurt you might feel worth it."
This Story is a beautifully written friends-to-lovers romance that truly took me on an emotional journey. From the start, I was invested in both the FMC and MMC, and I loved watching their relationship evolve naturally over time. This story delivered all the feels—both the highs and the lows—and I appreciated how deeply connected I felt to the FMC’s experiences.
The theme of second chances was handled with so much care, and it made me fall in love with the idea that sometimes the right person has been there all along. The emotional depth of the story was perfectly balanced with just the right amount of spice. And let me just say—the pool scene between the FMC and MMC? Super spicy and chef’s kiss. It added an extra layer of intensity that fit seamlessly into the story.
Overall, this was a thoroughly enjoyable read with strong emotional payoff, genuine character growth, and a romance that felt earned. If you love friends-to-lovers stories with heart, heat, and the promise of second chances, this one is definitely worth picking up.
Lily has a job, a child, and a lazy, cheating and abusive husband. She has an opportunity to leave, and goes back home with her mother. It's a bittersweet reunion - her mother's dying of cancer, and her best friend's husband died last year. And Tristan is back. They were an item, until he left town to become a big star, and broke her heart in the process. He wants them to be together again, and he's ready to fight for her, but there are so many secrets and so much hurt between them. And she's still trying to figure out how to be herself without her soon-to-be ex-husband. This is a heart-wrenching story, especially as I began to pick up bits and pieces of why Lily and Tristan were kept apart by those who were supposed to have their best interest at heart. I had trouble in the beginning of the book, going back and forth from present to past. About a quarter of the way in, I was completely hooked.

Y’all…I was not prepared for the amount of crying I was going to be doing reading this book! Don’t get me wrong, I also laughed a lot and I most definitely got angry with some characters. This book is just a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I really loved Lily’s character growth throughout the book and how far she came from where we meet her at the beginning of the book. She definitely goes through some shit and hasn’t had the easiest life since high school, so seeing her overcome all of that is amazing. Tristan frustrated me until he actually comes back into the picture and we get to really see what he’s like in the present and find out exactly what happened before. Once we get to know Tristan, I completely fell for him. He is so good to and for Lily and Matty and it’s absolutely heartwarming to see. If you want a book that is going to have you all up in your feels, then this is the book for you. Just makes sure that you’re stocked up on tissues, and maybe some wine and chocolate too.
Emotional, and Captivating!! This is my first time reading anything by this author, and it was a great book, and i look forward to reading more from her in the future.
This is the story of Tristan, and Lily, once young, and in love, but then Tristan left, went on to live a life of fame, and success. Heartbroken, and crushed, Lily picked herself up, and went on with her life, not able to get Tristan out her mind. Now, several years later, Lily decide to leave her trouble marriage, and go back home. But when she returns, Tristan is back too, can these two get their happy ending? This was a great read, emotional, intense, gripping, and dramatic. I highly recommend this book!

A story of first loves, second chances and painful memories and moments along with some seriously deranged people (part of the painful memories and moments of course). Some have everything you could only dream of-fame, fortune, and beauty. Others have less than that and feel undeserving of anything more than what they are handed. The moment in your life when you realize that sometimes you need to fight for more, that you deserve more...that is the moment that your life may indeed turn around. Throw in family and friends who will stop at nothing to help and protect you and soon you realize you have way more than you ever expected. Tristan and Lily's story is one of hope and the chase of excitement you get when you hunt butterflies.
Lily and Tristan were happy, until Tristan decided to leave and chase fame. With Tristan becoming famous, Lily knew she had to move on with her life, which she did with Henry, but a part of her always loved Tristan, he was her soulmate. With her marriage becoming abusive, Lily realises that she was just living in it due to fear. With fate taking an unexpected twist, Lily decides to take the leap and return home, home to where her heart had been broken and vowed never to return to. The one thing Lily never expected was that her soulmate would return home at the same time, with everything that’s happened will they ever bet just Lily and Tristan again.
This was another solid offering from this author! Lily and Tristan were a couple until Tristan left town and became a huge Hollywood star. Lily tried to move forward with Henry but her heart was never in it. Henry became abusive and Lily finally left when she got word that her mom's cancer was back. Moving back home was hard and the return of Tristan didn't help. This was a second chance romance at it's finest! It was beyond emotional and I really enjoyed reading it!
Thank you for the privilege of reading this book! Well done ❤️
This book is amazing it is heart wrenching and exciting at the same time. She shows how hard it is to leave a situation in live that a lot of women are in and how love can help bring things back into the right view. I would recommend this book to anyone that love a good love story finish after a hard start to life. Kimberly is a fantastic young author that has a lot of insight. I can't wait to see what her next book will be about. It was hard to put it down because it kept you wanting to find out how things where going to turn out for Lily and Tristan.
I've been making my way through Kimberly Carrillo's books, and I finally had a chance to read this one. I absolutely loved it. I loved the drama and angst, and although I bawled my eyes out a few times, the story itself had me so immersed, I could barely put it down!
I loved how Lily's memories of the past told the story of her and Tristan's history. It really made me feel the connection between the two of them, and showed me why they were soulmates. Kimberly Carrillo is an amazing storyteller, and I highly recommend this book with more than five stars!
My heart hurt for much of this novel. My anger at those that caused Lily and Tristan a decade of pain because of their meddling continues to burn even after finishing this book. I loved this book, and like all other books I have read from this author, you leave the story feeling fulfilled and like you have a good understanding of the world you just read about because, as readers, we are totally immersed into the lives of everyone involved. This author has a true talent of making the reader feel as the characters feels.
A book about a girl and her best friend. She fell in love with him years ago but when she turned 16 he stopped parading all his whores and chose her only to leave her at 17 and become a movie star. She finds herself pregnant and she is informed by his father that he said to get rid of it. So she forgets him and marries another man who has made her life a living hell for the last 10 years. Only to leave him and come face to face with her 1st love. What happens when the only man u have ever loved comes back for u.
Well written with great characters. Heart wrenching story of family ,love and a second chance. The story of Lily and Tristan is slow burn romance with twists and turns. Lack of communication plays a big part in this relationship. It will take a years to figure out what they were doing was wrong on all fronts. Happy ending? Yes.

I absolutely loved this book. This book was amazing from start to finish.
I loved how Kimberly Carrillo had the story told from Lily's POV in the first part and then it was told from Tristan's POV in the second part and then switched between both MC's. I love when authors have the story told from both MC's POVs as it's very refreshing.
Also be sure to have tissues as well because some parts will have you crying like me.
Wow - what a ride! Lily and Tristan's story is one of first love, misunderstandings, heartache, second chances, and true everlasting love. I do not what to give away the storyline with this review. I must say I didn't think I make it until the end, but am so glad I did. This story pulled at my heartstrings in so many ways. I loved all the characters except a few and once you read it you will know exactly who I mean. It was my first time reading this author and can't wait to read more from her.
This is the first book I have read by Kimberly Carrillo. It’s been awhile since I have found a book that can move me to tears. A book that absolutely broke my heart in the best way. As a mother myself who is close to her mom, reading about Lily and Rose was very emotional. Knowing the advice rose gave to everyone is exactly what my mom would say to me.
She is a talented author but the men never make up for what they did
I really do love her storytelling, and the characters are so well developed, but this author doesn’t even come close to having the men make up for what they’ve done. What does female main character went through her whole life after he left just without any explanation, and then lived a life of fame and fortune, and then forgives him so quickly it’s disgusting for women everywhere.
Wow! What an emotional story! I’m not gonna lie, this has me ugly crying more than once. Lily has been through so much, her life is a mess. She has so much going on and she doesn’t recognize her own strength that it took to persevere through it all. She has family, friends, and so much more, once she opens her eyes and remembers to always keep hunting butterflies. This was a beautiful and emotional story, I loved the relationship & the healing that happened.
What a stunner debut novel! Hunting Butterflies were the perfect title for this emotional story. What Lily and Tristan had was an epic young love. The slow-burn had played well and my heart breaks! I had sensed a lot of sadness and troubles from the couple.. I loved the whole story and their love story.. The feeling of hunting butterflies are real .. When you are in love.. ❤❤❤🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
This was my first book by the author and I'm struggling to review because I wanted to love it but I found it difficult to connect with the characters. Whilst a lot of things are covered I felt the emotions were all surface only and it could have gone a lot deeper. It's possible this book just came to me at the wrong time as so many others loved it.
Throughout this whole book I was enthralled. A few twists and turns that I didn’t think would be in there. There were also parts that made me cry so hard I didn’t think they would stop. I love reading this authors work. She is new and fresh. I can’t wait to read more of her works

This is a well written debut novel by this author. There is a lot of emotion in this book and some possible triggers. The characters have history together, but Lily has been through so much that she is insecure and not really sure what she wants or deserves anymore. It’s a slow burn romance and a page-turner.

The book is amazing. It had me laughing, crying and wishing some characters would get hit with a big dose of karma. I love the switch from her pov to his halfway through the book. I do wish there was a little more "will they, won't they" but with everything else going on in their story I see why it happened so quickly.

Lily and Tristan’s slow burn and second chance at romance will take you on one rollercoaster ride of emotions. It’s filled with misunderstandings, lack of communication, heartache, angst, drama, and most of all love. A truly wonderful read and one I found hard to put down. A definite recommended read.
This book had all the feels! At one part I was trying to read thru my tears. These two getting a second chance came with a lot of turbulence that only made them stronger. I look forward to reading more from this author.
I loved this book! I read it in one day. It gave great insight into an unhealthy and abusive relationship. It hit close to home. I love the humor as well.
