I have read a couple of books from this author but this story blew me away. I love new adult romance but this author put a little twist on this story. This is the third book in the Refuge series. I could not put this book down once I started reading it. These characters drew me in and kept up all night long. It only took me a few hours to devour this amazing love story.
Firelight is just a young girl when her family moves into a commune. She loves her name that Sky gives her. Firelight grows up homeschooled until she is old enough to go to a regular school. She is nervous on her first day with good reason. Firelight finds out that kids can be cruel and also her real name is Neomi. She is a very smart girl and she exceeds in school really quickly. Neomi aka Firelight graduates with honors and heads off to college. She ends up going to a major university. This is where she meets the beautiful Royce. She learns a lot in college but an accident shatters her future. Neomi is a fighter and she gets her life back on track. She meets Understanding and her world is perfect again or is it? Will Firelight find her future or will her past come back to her?
I absolutely loved this book. The storyline has it all romance, heartbreak, and healing. You will fall in love with these characters right from the beginning. Neomi is a very smart and beautiful woman. She learns that life can be rough at times but you will heal with time. Understanding looks rough but he is a beautiful man. He is so kind and loving. The way he treats Firelight will make your heart melt. This talented author will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. The ending left me in tears of joy. I can’t wait to see what this author will write next.

Found in Understanding by Debbie Zello a four-star read you need to find. This is the third book in the Refuge series, it can be read as stand-alone, but I would say read the series as they do build the authors writing style and you will get more out of it. I will be honest, I enjoyed the book, but it wasn’t as good as some of the others by this author. I will admit though, I think it was me as this was such an emotional read and I wasn’t in the place for it. I am sure I will re-read this story and find it so much better. It was very heavy in the back story and then glossed over some of the more current details that I felt we could have been dealt with in more details, that being said I loved the first couple of chapters where we got the initial story of Firelight, where she got her beautiful name and how. So that’s why I think you should give this book a go, I know I will be re-reading once I get over my funk.

Ok seriously, I bawled a few times in this story. At one point I put the book in time out because I couldn’t handle it. I’ve read a couple of this author’s books and they were good but this was leaps and bounds more. So fantastic. So heart-wrenching. Such a beautiful story.
This is definitely one of those stories about things in life being fated. More than the love story, Firelight’s life story was inspirational and interesting. The men in her life are all deserving to be there, they are real and thoughtful and just good people. There was no villain, no bad guy, no suspense. Found in Understanding was not what I expected, it was a lovely surprise.

Found in Understanding: Refuge Series Book Three by Debbie Zello was a okay, feels invoking read that really got you in the heart.
Not my first read by this author or this series, I have read the other two books, but they are stand-a-lones so don't worry about reading them in order. I very much enjoyed the first two books in this Refuge series. But to be honest, as far as for how this book stacks up to the others, I feel, for me, this one fell a little short at keeping my attention and eyes glued to the pages.
Lets get this out of the way so I can tell you about the goods things going on in this book. I loved the opening, as in the first two chapters. I loved how it opened with Firelight, her little three year old self, meeting the important Sky and what it was like growing, learning and cohabiting with others like their family that were down on their luck. But, and heres the but, it went on too long for my liking. Background is all and good, and but, there was just too much of it. I felt after the first two chapter I felt like I was reading a diary until Firelight got into college. I also, for me, fell like it took away what we could learn about Firelight as a adult, because of when know about her(everything), there was no mystery to her character, and for me, left very little room for her to grow. It also made, most of her interaction with her peers feel hollow and unfinished, because there was no initial get to know you, or bonding, you could say.
I know that seems like a lot, but in truth, this story is much more then Firelights past. We get to meet two very important people, that will change her, and open up her heart. As a overall character, Firelight was strong, smart, determined, and when she was down, she picked herself back up and did something about her situation. Weather it was for being different or grieving a loved one. I just feel that if some of her back story was left out, and she got to tell it as a adult, to Understanding, the it would have gave her depth, and would had added a extra layer to her already solid character build.
The story itself was good, very emotional, and heart string pulling. Understanding, stole the show. He had major growth and the love he had for Firelight was heart warming and special. They fit, and I fell completely under their spell. Their story together, is what pulled this read, for me, into its own. There was no traumatic brake up that one of them had to fix, there was no random stupidness that kept them apart. Okay there was a pretty weird ending, but it wasn't earth shattering. Cause Firelight knew her heart, and that made me all melty on the inside. I like it when there's no drama, just for having drama.
Overall, though I wasn't as into this book as the others, this isn't me saying this is a bad book. It's by far not, I just has some issues with information, and a little too much backstory. Once I was really into the main story, I loved it, and can't express enough how good this story is. This is a super high recommendation from me, and like anything reading is subjective, so you might not even be bother with the opening. Give this story a read, and you will understand why I fell so hard for Firelight and Understanding.

When I started reading this book, I think I must’ve just fell into the pages. I was right there, inside the book, and I couldn’t put it down. There was no stopping me. My husband tried to get me to do a few things, including have a conversation, and it just wasn’t happening. And it wasn’t on purpose.
You see Firelight is a character that wants to make something of herself. And she was raised in this community that is tight knit, and lights to keep to themselves. Not many people strive to do something, or be something, or even do something different with themselves. They just want to stay within their community, where they feel safest. But Firelight had plans, and dreams. And it wasn’t that she wanted to get away from the people whom she loved dearly, it was that her dreams needed out. Her dreams required to help her make a difference. And she wasn’t going to let anyone, or anything stand in the way of her dreams.
She received a full Scholarship to Yale University. She ends up being a little shy at first when she ends up on the outside, in the new World so to speak. The World is a much bigger place when you can’t just jump into your bed and under covers and delve into a good book and hide. Now she must act like an adult and face her fears head on. And low and behold, there is so much to learn and do, aside from becoming educated in a School.
Firelight ends up falling in love, and then seeing that very romance snatched right from her, in front of her very own eyes. The heart break itself will make you cry. He is a masculine man who rides motorcycles and makes her feel like she is the best thing that every happened to him. She feels safe and loved in his arms. Until finally, it is too late. This is when you want to scream at the writer and ask, ‘What were you thinking?’ and then you see, there are still a lot of pages here following this.
Firelight ends up walking down the street and hears a motorcycle. For some reason she decides to look up at the rider. Her eyes must be playing tricks on her. This is where she ‘Found Understanding’ and the book recovers and saves our hearts after all.
This book played with my feelings in oh so many ways. I yelled at the Author so many times. And I laughed, and I cried. And I my favorite book of Mrs. Zellos was: ‘Shadows of Him’ until she wrote this one. Now this one is my favorite. And not just because I edited it either. Because I could literally feel the emotions of this book as it was meant to be felt. When the writer does that, you know you have met the perfect writer. And that is why Debbie Zello is perfection in so many ways.
This is a five-star read, if I have ever read one. And if you have ever wanted to read something that will pull you in, and play with your emotions, this book will do just that. And by the way, you will yell at the writer. Now go on, get a copy, and tell me what you thought after you’ve read it!

Found in Understanding is the third book in the Refuge series by Debbie Zello.
Well, what can I say? Let me start with a confession….. I have read quite a few of Ms. Zello’s books now, and can honestly say that I have loved them all… So, when I saw this book come up in feed, I knew I needed to read it because, hello, it’s by Ms. Zello… But I didn’t immediately dive into it, I put it to the side, reading a few other books before finally picking it up. Why, you may ask… Well because I wasn’t sure about reading a story about a girl called Firelight, who was raised on a commune. The cover is super sexy, but I was worried that I wouldn’t like the story, that it may be, dare I say it, boring? BUT OH, WAS I SO VERY WRONG!!!!
This book is super amazing. Seriously good!
I should never have doubted Ms. Zello as she has never let me down in the past. This book is my favourite of all the ones that I have read of hers. It has the most beautiful, heart-wrenching, emotional story that had me smiling like an idiot one minute, before sobbing my heart out the next moment- the big fat tears, a half a box of tissues, my heart is broken, and I have nothing left to live for- kind of crying! Ms. Zello shattered me to my soul, I was in shock, couldn’t believe what I was reading. WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? And NO! NO! NO! NO!- plus a fair amount of cursing was happening at my house while I was reading certain parts and trying to come to grips with what she’d written. I wanted to stop, in protest- to throw the book and leave it tossed in the corner, as a memorial to my broken heart! But Ms. Zello had woven her magic, and her story had crept its way into my heart and I couldn’t let go, I couldn’t stop- I HAD to keep reading , I HAD to find out what would happen.
So, as the story continued to unfold, Ms. Zello began to piece together all the fragments of my broken heart until it/I was whole again! To say that I connected to the characters and invested in them and their story, is a huge understatement. I adored them- even the secondary characters- every single one of them!!! The character development was phenomenal- every single perfectly quirky minute detail.
The story is romantic, sweet, uplifting, refreshing, devastating, heart breaking, wonderful, fulfilling and entirely bewitching. Ms. Zello wove a story that I won’t ever forget, adding some jaw dropping surprises. This story is a little different from her others, as this has an almost poetic/ lyrical feel to the whole thing.
I won’t go into the story here, because I really don’t want to ruin the wonderful surprise that this book is. But, there is so much more to the story than what the blurb reveals- so, don’t make my mistake and put off reading this gem, because it really is the jewel in Ms. Zello’s crown!
Thank you so much, Ms. Zello!!

Found in Understanding by Debbie Zello was a 4 out of 5 stars read for me. Somehow when I purchased it I missed that it was book 3 in a series. It is also the first time I've read anything by this author, so had I had no expectations. There were so many subplots in this book that grabbed my attention, and I read it in under a day! It was very multi-faceted and I loved it. I don't I always enjoy when a book has a prologue based 15+ years prior to the actual story, however, in my opinion, the prologue in this story was absolutely necessary for understanding Neome, aka, Firelight. She is a unique girl, raised under very different circumstances, trying to make it in a world she was barely a part of before she turned 13 years old. Being raised on a ranch, poor and isolated away from most things people call normal, Neomie is not like other girls. She faces many struggles throughout school and still emerges on top of her class with full a scholarship to Yale. While at Yale, Neomie meets a man 10 years older than her, enter Royce, and realizes a love she never knew could exist. Royce is an Adonis as far as Neomie is concerned, and she is his Princess. Throughout this relationship, we watch Neomie grow from the timid, shy, brilliant girl she is into someone full of life and vitality. Never would you have guessed she was as sheltered as she was, or even as innocent! But then tragedy strikes, and it all comes crashing around her. Neomie shows great strength as she pulls herself out of devastation and finds love a second time! I was not at all expecting this to be a second shot at true love story. I had assumed somehow it would be a happy ending, however right around the middle I began to feel like I was wrong and I definitely shed some tears while sharing the same fears as Neomie. I had foreseen all kinds of crazy things, and even felt the same funny connection Neomie felt when she meets Jaycon, but that relationship wasn't even at all close to what I thought was going to happen! I loved that I could not predict this book like I could so many other books I've read. The ending in this story was actually the only reason I am giving this 4 stars. I felt the whole world fall from under me and then was surprised at how quickly the whole thing seemed to resolve. I felt like it came too soon after an incredible revelation. I was thrilled about all the happiness and well being that came of all the characters, however, I felt as though it could have been stretched out a tiny bit longer, Or maybe it was that the story was awesome and I wasn't ready for it to end!

Found in Understanding has to be my favorite book by Debbie Zello that I have read yet. I loved every single second of my time spent with Neomi Firelight. I finished this book a few nights ago, and I have been searching for the right words to review this with as much credit as I could to Zello for such a beautiful and heart wrenching story. I am not sure there is much more that I can say, other than you really have to pick this book up and clear a chunk of time to read it all in, because I can also guarantee that you won’t want to put it down till you have finished it! Oh, and make sure you have a box of Kleenex available too, because this is a mega tear jerker.
This is the third book in The Refuge Series, but I don’t think it is necessary to read the other two before this one. I just recommend it because they are also great books. This story focuses on Firelight, interesting name for a character was my first thought. After I finished the book it made perfect sense! Firelight has been living under a rock for most of her life, or so it seems. She grew up on a commune in California. After a lot of hard work and focus she finds herself at Yale University. She is studying English and slowly working on finding her place in the mainstream world. When one of her professors becomes the center of her world it would appear we have a fairytale love story. Until Debbie Zello changes that with the stroke of a pen and rips your heart out. Like gut wrenching, curled up in a ball, crying and yelling at my kindle, ripped out my heart.
And that is all I will say about that. You will have to read this to find out what happens. I can promise you that the journey will be equally brutal and beautiful. Zello will slowly put the pieces of your heart back together in a poetic way. You will not be disappointed you picked up this beautiful and different love story. Find out if Firelight will have her happily ever after or not today.

a great read about finding your place in the world. Neomi Firelight was raised in a small commune in California and grew up in a small school. through many struggles, she grows up and ends up in Yale University studying English where she makes her own way in life. she starts a new job and makes new friends and studies hard until she catches the attention of an English professor and discovers love for the first time. but when tragedy strikes, will she be able to carry on and find her place in life with someone else?
a great read. well developed plot with twists and turns. well developed characters such as Sky as the supportive and caring father figure or Firelight with her struggles but strengths underneath. an excellent example of a bildungsroman with her experiences of her youth told through reminiscences which were well written and worked well with the narrative of the present it also added to the sense of adventure throughout the novel to try something new for Neomi/ Firelight. . I loved the sense of family in the commune which was beautifully written in the fireside community settling arguments or everyone looking after each other. the busy life of a student was well written with the comforting feel of the library and also the crowded lecture halls. I also loved the simple setting of the coffee shop which was excellently depicted. I also loved the visual detail of the snow after so much colour of the inside of the tattoo shop. I loved the visual detail and colour of the shop with its art and even the small detail of Firelights tattoo. the idea of having a safe place to retreat to when things get tough was beautifully written and emotive and relatable. I also adored the play on names throughout the novel to emphasise their true natures like Dove or Sky or Firelight as a secret personal side of those characters. . Overall, a great read and I would give it four stars.

Found in Understanding is the third book in the Refuge series by Debbie Zello. This book follows Neomi Dillon from the time she is three years old until adulthood. The book starts with Neomi and her family ending up at Sunrise Ranch after financial difficulties leave them penniless and without a place to call home. The ranch owner, Sky, takes the family in and they make a home on the commune.
As she grows older Neomi, now called Firelight, realizes that she is different from her peers…she has a different outlook on life, a different upbringing and a different sense of self…which leads to Firelight’s realization that while different from everyone she is special to those that love her. Years pass and Firelight’s hard work lead her to a full scholarship to Yale University, where she decides to live life to the fullest and experience as many firsts as she can.
There is so much that happens from this point I don’t want to go into the story any further and give anything away. Let me just say that this was one of those stories you start reading and think to yourself “uh this is going to be boring” and while it may have started out slowly, Ms. Zello had my attention from the first page until the very end with a book that flowed effortlessly. I loved this main character, which even through life’s challenges remained a strong main character. My only issue with this book was the story twist near the end of the book, while interesting in theory I’m not quite sure if it was all that necessary to the story…but that’s just my opinion. I really enjoyed this story by Debbie Zello and after reading several by her I find myself looking forward to what will be next. So far every story has been unique in its own way, never dull and never repetitive…keep up the good work Ms. Zello.

Found in Understanding: Refuge Series Book Three by Debbie Zello is the third book in her Refuge series. This book can be read as a standalone but I highly suggest you read all of this series. I enjoy this author's writing style. It is easy flowing and creative. Her attention to details made me feel as if I was right there with the characters. Her characters will take you on a few twists and turns that you will not see coming. This is a story about two hearts and one destiny. Firelight was raised on a farm with love and kindness. She has not had a lot of experience with the outside world but learning from her experiences got her at the University of Yale. This also brings on some first time situations for her as well. What will happen when he sends her heart on a tail spin? I enjoyed Firelight's character. She is not very experienced but is willing to check out life for herself. She has had a broken heart in the past but with new experiences bring new feelings. She could learn more about herself then what she realizes. Her childhood is a little different then normal children which makes her even more interesting. She is just a really strong character that will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride in parts that will either leave you laughing or feeling compassion. The secondary characters in this book are just as supportive and heartfelt as Firelight. They add something to the story that makes you want to keep reading. I highly recommend this book. Find out if Firelight finds more then just herself on her journey.

Fireflight (Neomi Dillon) grew up in a commune and was home schooled until she began to go to high school and was subject to a world of cruelty and harshness. Yet she overcame it all with her good grades and she receives a full scholarship to Yale.
There she meets Royce Kane, whom challenges her but also makes her feel alive. Neomi finally gets a chance to experience true love until a tragedy strikes and Neomi must again find the strength within her to go on.
As Neomi begins to put her life back together she is faced with someone who knows more about her than possible. Will her life fall to pieces again?
This was such a story about overcoming obstacles and having faith in yourself to achieve everything you set out to do.
Firelight was such a great girl with so much spunk and you knew she had the ability to achieve whatever she set out to do. I felt so bad when she got to school and wasn't aware of who she really was and gradually she became Neomi again to the outside world.
I loved when Neomi got to Yale and when she began to fall for Royce. They were so good together and how great his family was to her.
When everything went off the rails for Neomi I knew she would come out on top but I wasn't expecting how everything fell into place for her with Trigger.
The book threw me a huge twist with Jaycon and that was something I totally was not expecting! I really wondered how that would affect Neomi and her plans for her own life.
The ending was awesome and the way it should be! So heartfelt!

I've had to sit and think about this before I could start this review. First let me start with how much I completely love this author and this series, which you do not need to read in order as they do not relate to each other, that's not to say you shouldn't read the others..Every one of them are amazingly awesome….This one is completely different from anything I have ever read and I will not say why because i had no idea what was happening and I feel it's only fair that everyone else gets to have that jaw dropping, bang your head on the desk and wonder if you have ever been as confused in your whole life moment! LOL
I loved the beginning and how that progressed and where Firelight and her family ended up. I wasn't sure at first but I quickly found myself in love with the ranch and Sky! I loved Royce and was head over heels for Understanding...
This was just an all around beautifully written story, I love how the author did not waste time, as a matter of fact time moved quite quickly and the way it was done was awesome, I loved it and would read a million books written just like this one was. A definite new favorite to add to my tbr again file. I can't wait to read more from this author, this is my 3rd or 4th book by this author and I must download the rest of what she has, do yourself a favor and grab this book..You will not be sorry!!!

Found in Understanding is the third book in Debbie Zello’s Refuge series. I had read the first book so I was familiar with her writing and I tell you, she did not disappoint! After reading Found in Understanding, I know that she is someone whose writing I will be going back to, again and again … there is something in her writing that sucks you in and doesn’t let you go …
Found in Understanding is a heart breaking story of Neome “Firelight” Dillion and Royce Kane and Understanding Matters Franklyn and I know that when I say it like that you think it might be a boring love triangle with some weird hippish people but you could not be further from the truth. Oh my goodness how I cried … I bawled my eyes out! … and then, I also laughed and I envied and I raged … The writer knows how to spin the story so that it does not let one go … you become addicted to it and cannot put it down and even though at times it feels like a train wreck you cannot turn your eyes away from … you held your breath and keep reading … I wish she had ‘dragged out’ the end a bit … it might just be that I wanted to spend more time with the characters and it was time for the story to be over or maybe there could have been something more … well … I know though that I will be picking up another book by Ms Zello for sure in near future!

The story Found in Understanding: Refuge Series Book Three by Debbie Zello is a new adult romance book. It is a story that once I started I didn’t want to put down until I had read the final page. It is the story and journey of a girl named Firelight. Her story is one that is about the experiences that she has. It is a book that had my emotions going up and down. There were many heartwarming times and others when I had tears in my eyes. I loved reading about Firelight. She is a young woman who grew up in a farming community where she always felt the love from those around her. The farm was her refuge. She is a beautiful, gifted, and intelligent young woman. She was blessed with a full scholarship and a time in her life where she is discovering the world beyond the farm where she was raised. Follow her story as she discovers first love and her determination to succeed in all she does. This is the third story in the Refuge series and I loved it just as much as the first two. It is a well-written book that will tug at your heartstrings. This story also includes other characters that you are introduced to. I enjoyed reading about them and their interactions with Firelight. This is a book and series that I highly recommend reading.

Found in Understanding is the third book in the Refuge series by Debbie Zello. I read the first book in this series but I guess I skipped book two so now I have to go back and read book two. The characters are well written the storyline is amazing.
This story takes you through a range of different emotions that keeps you engaged and captivated with this story, but along with this, Ms. Zello gives us some twists and turns along the way that you most definitely don't see coming. This story flows from chapter to chapter and is visual great to the point you feel as though you are there alongside the characters.
Firelight was raised with love and kindness, on a small farming commune, in Southern California. Her first Dip into the outside world was rough, but the lessons learned from it, propelled her into Yale University, on a full scholarship.
College brought so many firsts. She blossomed under her friends, professors and her first job experiences. Her first real love fit her romance novels ides of perfection.
When a heart-wrenching turn spins her world apart, she finds herself in Understanding.
Now I’m on my way to read book two book in this series

Firelight remembers arriving in the commune and meeting Sky and getting her new name. Firelight is home schooled until she is old enough to go regular school, although she doesn’t want to go Sky convinces her that she may want to go to college one day and needs to go.
Having been at the commune and then after going to school on the first day she learns that some can be cruel and that her real name wasn’t Firelight. Working through the struggle of dealing with that Firelight grows and wants to make the best of her life with Sky’s encouragement.
Heading to college and using Neomi inside of Firelight, she realises that there was a lot that she didn’t learn on the farm about life, but her friends help her through.
While Neomi does well at college she also learns about love and loss that she has never been exposed to before and leaves her devastated, and slowly she learns to move forward with her life.
Neomi meets Understanding and feels that she can move on with her life, with him supporting her dreams.
Loved the story and how you watched Neomi develop as a person and her hopes and dreams that Sky had for her came true. Loved the twists and heartache throughout the story can’t wait to read more from this author.

Found in Understanding by Debbie Zello is a five star novel. This is the third book in the Refuge series. Although it is not necessary to read the first two novels to know the storyline in this novel, I would highly recommend them. This author is able to reel you in with her stories and keep you guessing where the story might go. I was very surprised when I started reading this book that it begins on a commune. How does this girl, Firelight, become such a big part to the story when it seems that everything in her life is perfect on this commune. People are happy, friendly, and take care of each other. This is all she has ever known because she was so young when her family joined. As a rule, the children of the commune begin normal school when they turn 13. This was one of the hardest things for Firelight to overcome. She had never known children to be so cruel. She finds the strength within herself to stick it out and she becomes successful. As she grows, she finds herself experiencing new things constantly, including love and heartbreak. This author has such a great way with words and her storylines that I crave more.

Oh my heart! This book just proves I am a first love kind of romantic. No matter what happens, no matter how great the second love is…I want the first love to always win. So for me this was a sad story with a happy enough ending. I loved everything about this story except the ending!! See sentences above…I am a sucker for first love. This story had me ugly crying and sighing throughout.
I loved the unusual names of the characters, the play on words, and even the story line. Debbie Zello never fails in the plot twist of her stories. Never! Her writing carries you along, making you feel like you’re a part of the story and then BAM! She throws everything out of whack! Everything you think you know, everything you love and understand is changed with a plot twist like no other.
Firelight is our main character and her 2nd love to me just seemed too understanding, too good to be true, maybe it was me holding on to the first love…maybe.
This story was a definite page turner. While it is book three in the Refuge Series, Found in Understanding is a standalone. I have no problem recommending this story or this author.

Found in Understanding is the third book in the Refuge series by Debbie Zello. This was my favorite of the three in this series for so many reasons. This story grabbed me and would not let me go to the point that I was reading it in church before Easter service. I hope my Pastor doesn't see this! I really seemed to bond with Firelight and I'm not sure why but there was just something about her.
Growing up the way she did she was very sheltered from the rest of the world, but that didn't stop her from taking chances and doing so great things with her life. She had such a strength about her and I don't know if I would have handled things as well as she did under the circumstances.
The journey of her life from a little girl on the ranch to adult was one I will not forget for a while. There were laughs and tears throughout a good part of the book, but I also found myself feeling proud of her for so many reasons. I loved Sky and how he loved Firelight the way he did. Their bond was just amazing. I highly recommend this book and series and hope there will be more to come from Ms. Zello.

Found In Understanding by Debbie Zello is the 3rd book in the fantastic Refuge series. Each book is a stand-alone but I’d definitely recommend reading all the books as this is a really great series of books.
This book tells the story of Neomi Dillon (Firelight) from the age of 3 right up until adulthood. Neomi grew up on a commune style ranch and therefore lived a very sheltered childhood. Initially on entering high school she is treated badly due to her upbringing but she excels and ends up at Yale on a full scholarship. At Yale she falls in love with her professor’s teaching assistant Royce. When Royce is tragically killed in an accident Neomi is devastated. A few years later Neomi then meets and falls in love with Understanding.
This is an amazing story of a young woman who is learning about love. Neomi is an intriguing character and I loved her story. I have to admit to shedding many tears when reading this book. Please have a supply of tissues handy if you choose to read this.
Just when you think everything is going well for Neomi, you are thrown a twist at the end that you will never see coming!

Found in Understanding: Refuge series book 3
By Debbie Zello

I have really enjoyed this series so far and I was really looking forward to reading the third book Found in Understanding. I think that the author has a really good writing style which had kept me engaged in her books right from the start. She always makes you feel for her characters and has great descriptive language.
I really loved the innocence of Firelights character and I wondered just how she was going to survive going off to university. I admired her strength and independence and I really did want everything to work out for her. There really was something about her character that drew me to her straight away.
Along with Firelight were some great secondary characters and this is something that I admire about this author she always has secondary characters who add something to her stories. They play a role and make her books so much more exciting to read.
I have really enjoyed reading these books by Debbie Zello and I look forward to reading more from her in the future.

Found In Understanding by Debbie Zello is the third book in her refugee series. Although part of an overall series each book can be read as a standalone.
Firelight is the innocent but caring main character. Raised in a small community in California she doesn’t have much experience of the wider world. And yet all of that changes when she heads off to university. With new experiences Firelight’s development is amazing. However when a different experience tips her world on its head she has to find a way to not let it rip her apart. Will she be able to use her confidence and determination to hold herself together?
This isn’t the first book I have read bu this author but it is definitely my favourite so far. I really enjoyed how Firelight was written and how you saw her character develop as the story went on. I thought her character was very relatable as it reminded me of when everyone leaves home for that first time and that, no matter what each of their experiences are, everything is strange and daunting at first: a great read.

Found in Understanding is the third book in the Refuge series by Debbie Zello. This book can be read as a stand alone, but I recommend you read the whole series just because they are all soooo good! This coming of age story had me hooked from the very first chapter and I just couldn’t put it down. As happens with most of this authors books, I had to have a box of tissues by my side throughout. A great book for me is when I’m laughing out loud or crying my eyes out and Ms. Zello manages to get me every time.
This story features Neomi, AKA Firefly, who grows up in a commune, and through the encouragement of her friend applies and is accepted into Yale. What happens when she is on her own and experiencing the world for the first time is what make this book amazing. The twists and turns will keep you on the edge of your seat. The supporting characters in this book really make the story soar.
I highly recommend this book, series and author. You definitely won’t be disappointed. But bring a box of tissue along for the ride!

Found in Understanding- Debbie Zello
5-star review
Found in Understanding by Debbie Zello is by far my favorite book of hers. It’s the third book in the Refuge series, a series of standalones. They definitely do not need to be read in order, but I would suggest reading all three as each book is well worth a read. Debbie’s writing always pulls me right in with all of the detail, relatable characters, interesting and intriguing storylines and all of the emotions. I always end up shedding a tear or two while reading Debbie’s work.
Firelight’s story is completely unconventional and unlike anything I’ve ever read, which made her story extra special. It’s a story about self-discovery, pursing dreams, love, loss and new relationships. This storyline had me hooked from the start. I experienced so many emotions while reading Firelight’s journey, from awe, surprise, love, heartache and sadness, it sure was a roller coaster ride of emotions.
This memorable romance is one I would definitely recommend, I look forward to reading more of Debbie’s work in the future!

Found in Understanding is this story to make you happy, excited, sad, and crushed. Ms. Zello has the way to make you go through everything as the character goes through. You will need a box of Kleenex and some comfort food. You may want to have a pillow near you so you can scream into from time to time. The story was about Firelight (Sky) who was raised in a commune. Being raised in a commune she was trying to figure out what she wants for her future. Keep a close eye on what is happening in the commune because it is here that the story begins. Firelight, who called herself ,Neomi , decided to leave and go to college. Her eyes were open to life in the commune. Neomi’s friends at college helped her to fit into the group. Her emotions were another new thing to Neomi.
While I enjoyed this story, it reminds us to use the “Golden Rule” because you do not know what the person across from you has been through.

Found in Understanding by Debbie Zello is the story of a young woman called Firelight. Raised in a commune and has been homeschooled most of her life. After being encouraged by a childhood friend to go out into the world she is accepted to Yale and begins her life in the wider world. Being raised in an isolated community leaves Firelight wholly unprepared for life outside. Finding new friends that help her adjust to her new life makes things easier for her. She also begins to assimilate into her new world by starting a new job and finding love for the first time. When heart break comes to her she will have to use everything she has learned, both at the commune and outside of it, to help her get though.
I enjoyed this book. The characters were well written and relatable. The plot was interesting and an original take on the classic coming of age tale. Definitely an entertaining four star worthy read.

Found in Understanding: Refuge Series Book Three
By Debbie Zello
Found in Understanding is another awesome instalment to the Refuge Series by Debbie Zello. I have to say I have loved this series and I am pretty sure you will to. Although this is book three you can be assured that it can be read as a standalone so it wont matter which order this series is read in. Neomi is given the name Firelight when as a child her when her family move into a commune. Due to her great education she is now at university. There she meets Royce who becomes the centre of her world. This series is so good I can’t make up my find which of the books is my favourite. This book has a mixture of romance, devastating in some parts, heart breaking and yet in other parts will a have you feeling that the book is also somewhat beautiful. You will fall in love with the characters in this book. So, what are you waiting for get a coffee, put your feet up and enjoy the read.

Title: Found in Understanding
Author:Debbie Zello
Series: Refuge Series Book 3
Found in Understanding was a good 4 star read.
This is the 3rd book in the Refuge Series which can be read as a stand alone.
Firelight grew up on a farm and was very innocent in so many ways. She ends up going to Yale where she finds out that she definitely grew up differently than others. She has many new experiences. Can she also find love?
I really liked Firelights character she was sweet, innocent and very strong. The secondary characters added a great element to the story as well. The author pulls you in with her writing and you can’t help but want things to work out for Firelight. There are some unexpected twists and a few teary eyed moments and couldn't wait to see how it ended. I am really enjoying this series and can’t wait to read more from this author.
