After reading the first two books I couldn't wait to read Corey's story.
Corey is the brother of Kay who has some sort of top secret job and she only gets a call from him occasionally when he can. Corey was a mystery until he was involved in a rescue mission that rescues his own sister along with other girls Kay was held captive with.
Corey is Ava's saviour that night and the beginning of Flying free begins with Ava trying to move on in her life, taking each day as it comes, some days have set backs and some days she is able to remove one of the post it notes from her wall which is like her own mental health to do list.
Flying free is a slow burn romance and most of the beginning tells of Ava and her road to recovery after she was sold by her own father. Corey is still away doing whatever he does and she hasn't seen the guy who comforts her in her dreams for two years.
All the characters are interconnected so when Corey does finally return home he feels connected to Ava and can't stay away from his birdie, the girl he helped set free.
A moving and emotional story, gripping and full of suspense. What starts off slow burn definitely finishes with a bang.
Flying free can be read as a standalone, Ava does share her past in her story so although it happened in the previous book your not missing anything other than Kay and Ty's story which I also recommend.
An addictive series, I love these characters.
*Contains scenes of attempted rape and molestation but isn't overly graffic or drawn out.
Recommended for ex forces, hot military action, suspense, great additional characters who are one big family.
Box set Available in KU, that's all 6 books in the series, bargain.
In this third book of the MAC Security series, we follow Ava for the first six chapters and the things that happened in her life that put her in the situation we found her in during the end of the second book when Kaylee rescues her! We see Charlie again, he comes to visit Ava. We hear more about his brothers and his parents. We see what Ava's life has been like since Corey redeployed. In chapter seven, we finally get a chance to see what Corey has been up to. We learn more about Daley in this book from the first book. My thoughts on Daley are changing, especially after Ava's father tracks her down and what happens to her. The way Daley handles her is great! Can Ava allow herself to love? Can she allow herself to let Corey know how she feels about him and what she wants? How Ava handles things with her father and the things that come after had me cheering and throwing a fist in the air for her. You're going to have to read to see what Ava's struggles have been since her rescue in the first book.
RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin' With M. Brennan.
I literally finished this book in one day. This book is written as a standalone but can be read as part of the MAC security series by the same author for back stories on the secondary characters.
100% my favourite book by this author so far, I was captivated from the very first page! Ava's struggle with her past is wrote in such a way that it just pulls you in and you get lost in the story. Jackson needs his own book, I loved him! Corey is so manly but cute that he melted me and Jess really intrigued me too, I'd like to learn more about her ;)
When I got to the end of Exposed my first thought was wow, my second was I needed more of Corey and Ava's story so I was so happy when I saw Flying Free was coming out and I was not disappointed. This story was so beautiful and moving and I couldn't put it down. Corey and Ava have such a deep connection that started in Exposed but that develops into so much more in Flying Free. I love that I never know what is coming next with Abigail Davies books. She springs big moments on you and it keeps you on edge not knowing when or what she will throw in next. I'm so glad these two got to tell their story now I'm hoping for Daley's story.
This is the first book that I've read by Abigail Davies and now I'm salivating for more! She pulled me in with her captivating words and heartbreaking yet heartwarming storyline.. yeah.. you try and figure that one out! How can a book be heartbreaking yet heartwarming? Read it and find out!! I adore Ava, I absolutely hate what happen to her yet she doesn't give herself enough credit, she is strong, she is alive, and she actually starts living. Corey is an honest-to-God sweetheart, in his own way of course.. although he's very much an alpha male, he is very much a loving and kind man. I would love to read more of Daley and Jess (secretly hoping they get together!!!), I think Daley is a conundrum, I can't quite figure him out! The storyline is incredible, the character developments are brilliant and the writing is perfectly flawless. I loved this book, so so much. A massive 5 stars from me! #2OCCAB
I went into this book completely blind, I had no idea what it was about or whether it was part of a series.
Would I have chosen it personally? I don't really know the answer to that but I'm very glad I had the chance to read it.
I completely fell in love with the characters. Ava, the poor girl I felt so sorry for her. She went through so much, and had to struggle to deal her emotions and inner demons.
Corey was her knight in camouflage, and even though he tried to convince himself that he shouldn't want her he couldn't shake the feeling she was meant to be his.
This book was just so many emotions and feelings, I could not put it down. It's been a long time since a book captured me like that!!! And now I feel the need to read the mac security series.
This has definitely been my favourite book of the series so far. This is set as a standalone but I would read it after book 2 in the Mac Security series. Corey and Ava have the ultimate bond over an event that happens in book two of the MAC Security series. At the start the book we have a broken Ava trying to live her life the best she can. Every day is a struggle to deal with the past. I spent most most of my time reading with my hand covering my mouth in shock. This book brought every single emotion with it. Another rollercoaster ride of a story with some twists and turns I didn't see coming. Eagerly anticipating all the other books in the series.
4.5 stars!! This was my blind date with a book read and therefore I went into it completely blind and damn if I was not impressed!!
This can be read as a stand alone but as I was reading it seemed as though this book goes along with another regarding Ty and Kay. But it did not take away from this book at all just made me curious to read this other book.
This is Ava and Corey's story...
I do want to say I think this is really Ava's story. Ava grew up with druggie parents in a trailer park. So basically she was just there to get her parents next fix. Nobody gave two shits about Ava and with only a few weeks until she was legally an adult she didn't care anymore. Until one night her dads debts became hers and the worst thing possible could have happened. Now the man who saved her is the man she can't seem to get out of her mind...
"You’re my Birdie. We fly together, remember?”
My heart broke a million times for Ava. She is such a strong woman and I enjoyed how the story allowed her to grow instead of making her dependent on that love interest like we see so many books do. I think her and Corey's love story was beautiful and inspiring. There was parts where it fell a little flat for me and if it was not for that this would be a total 5 star book!! There were a few slang words from the author that weren't used in the states much that I picked up on but it did not take from story. I think the writing was done quite well and the book had a great flow. The characters all well developed and makes me interested to read about each and every one of them. This was a great read but if you are touchy about rape or triggers similar to that this may not be the book for you.
“Fly free, Birdie, and wherever you fly, I’ll always follow.”
I'm so glad I got a chance to read this and let the girls at Quirky Blind Date With a Book choose some really great reads. I have yet to be disappointed.
**I received this book as a review copy from Blind Date With a Book and in return I have written my honest review**
Flying Free is another book in this series I literally couldn't put down. After reading the first two books I was desperate for Corey and Ava's story, and I was not left disappointed.
Even though this book can be read as a standalone, I strongly suggest you read Fractured Lies and Exposed first as you will gain a greater understanding of who Corey and Ava are as individuals and to each other. Yes, all is explained within the narrative but I personally loved having the knowledge from the very start, and also the anticipation!
I honestly cannot praise this story enough. Flying Free is full of twists and turns as well as highs and lows, all perfectly penned to keep you addicted. Ava’s journey is incredible to witness. There are scenes that absolutely broke my heart but her strength and determination is what I will take away from this story the most. I must thank the Mackenzie family for their love, patience and care towards Ava. However, there was only going to be one person to comprehensively help with Ava’s healing and that is the incredible Corey. He’s going to steal your heart like he has mine!
I highly recommend Flying Free to you to read. I’m desperate to learn more about Jess so I hope she has her own story or at the very least we discover what has been happening as this series continues. I cannot believe it has taken me so long to read Abigail Davies’ words. I may be kicking myself right now, however, I’m also thinking better late than never!
Ava lived with druggy parent, helping them to get their next fix, until one night her dad couldn’t pay his debt, he exchanged her to be debt free and Ava was sent into a life of hell. When she was found it was Corey that saved her, she clung to him, he knew everything, but then he had to return to his mission. Ava learns coping techniques to get through and she’s doing better unless she’s caught of guard, she hasn’t heard from Corey, but decides that next time she sees him she wants to be stronger, although she still doesn’t like to be touched. Corey seems to be the only one that sees Ava, he knows she needs to make her own decisions and not have them taken away from her. Corey tires to fight what he feels for Ava knowing that he’s going away and being with him could put her in danger, but they both realise they can’t fight it anymore. Ava battles her past and wants to be stronger for Corey, he was her strength when she needed it and she wants to show him that she’s stronger because of him. When Ava faces her past, she draws from the strength that she’s has now and when everything starts to fall apart Corey is there to pick her up again and work though it with her, so he can see her fly free again.
Actual Rating: 3.5 Stars I won a copy of this book a few months ago from the author (I think lol), and didn't feel like reading it until now. Honestly a lot of it was just blah. I felt like a lot of it was just undeveloped, from their relationship to the characters in general. I know this is a standalone, but it's also based of a couple from another one of Abigail Davis's series so maybe she just assumed the reader would read that one first? I don't know. I was not a fan of how she handled her trauma, which doesn't really seem to be told what it is in it's entirely until the end of the book. She goes to see a therapist, which is good, but for whatever reason the author decided to depict her as the worst therapist on planet earth. So instead of finding a qualified one she decides to "improve" herself. Granted she does pretty well on her own, but it also leads her into a whole bunch of other messes. It just irritates me that an author would depict therapist as useless. This was my biggest pet peeve of the book. The only reason it's getting the rating it is, is because the story is unique enough and the ending came as a surprise.
Corey saved Ava before this novel started in a book I haven’t read as this is the first for me by this author. I was lucky enough to get to read this via Quirky Blind Date with a Book. Though I hadn’t read the previous book, I had no trouble falling right into this story and enjoying the progression of Ava & Corey’s story.
Corey is so cute/swoony as he tries to fight his feelings for Ava. He doesn’t think he’s good enough or that he really should be with her, but once he gives in, their story is electric. Ava is determined and her strength grows exponentially during the course of the novel. HOWEVER, there was a time when she was hiding stuff from her adopted family that just made me think she was stupid. The strength of knowing when you need help is just as strong as trying to do it all by yourself!
I love the way her “brothers” adopt her and look out for her. I didn’t like the mystery of her roommate Jess. It felt like a distraction that never led anywhere. Like a lot of build up with no conclusion.
*** I received a copy via Quirky Blind Date with a Book in exchange for my honest review ***
I feel like I need to preface this review with the fact that this book has a happy ending that made me cry happy tears!
The rest of the book took me on an emotional rollercoaster of epic proportions. This is Ava and Corey’s story. If you’ve read the first two books in the MAC Security series, you have the backstory on these two characters which I think is important. I’d definitely read them first but this is technically a standalone.
I loved getting more insight into Corey and Ava. They are both such unique characters that seeing them interact was great. I don’t want to say a lot about the plot of this book because I definitely feel everyone should read it. Just know that it gets really dark. It has an amazing ending but there are a lot of twists, turns, and trauma before the characters get there. It’s very well written and if you’re a fan of any of Abigail Davies other books, definitely read this one!
This was a great story about a woman who's father sold her to pay off is drug debt and in and out of foster homes then she was saved and went to live with a great family who tried to give her a normal life. Then she went away to college to try to have a normal life she got together with Corey who she met when she went to live with the great family she told him everything that happened then he went away on assignment for 18 months and when they met again they could not hid their feelings then she started to be stalked by her teacher who turns to be her brother then her father came back wanted money or he would give her back to the man who hurted her when he showed up she ended up killing him she then went into the hospital and kept having episode he had when they hurt her the first time but she got back to where she used to be
I wasn't ready I had no idea. I don't know why after reading the other books and the hints of what went on when she stayed behind. So much has happened and she has come so far. Corrie has helped a lot. The two of them have helped each other and circumstances keep pushing them together. There story is a hard story both suffering in their own way and not thinking they could be that person that could make a relationship work. Well in their case there are so many outside factors.
This story is gripping and tug at the heartstrings in ways I hadn't expected. I knew better, this author has shown she can dig into your mind and just twist you all up and that's exactly what she does. Corrie and Ava need each other to breathe, for their strength, to fly free.
Ava has been through a lot in her life. Ava is slowly trying to get her life back to together and be stronger. Corey is away a lot because of his job but he never forgotten about his little birdie. Ava hasn't been back home in awhile and she sees the one person who she has never forgotten. Ava and Corey are instantly drawn to each even though they haven't seen each other in awhile. Corey knows that he wants her but Ava wants to make sure he really wants to be with her.
This is a new author for me and I was drawn into this book from the very beginning. Ava and Corey have always been drawn to each other but they have been apart for some time. I loved how Ava got stronger as the story went on and how much Corey loved her. I can't wait to read more from this author!!
This was the first book that I've read by this author and holy wow! Flying free kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time! It's full of suspense and twists and turns all the way through. I loved it! Ava and Corey's story is emotional, full of angst and so sweet that it breaks your heart a bit. Ava has a past that is just horrific. She has so many obstacles to overcome through her young life and her determination to become a better her is thrilling to see as the book continues. Corey has a special connection with Ava and after being deployed for 18 months comes home and discovers that his feelings for her haven't diminished at all. He fights them at every turn because he knows that he isn't good for her. But love conquers all or does it? Definitely recommend reading this!
Holy crap! This book broke me! I knew when Corey and Ava met in book two that there was a connection between them. Ava had just experienced something horrific but you don't get the full story until this one....and it broke my heart. Two years on and Ava is in college, trying hard to lead a normal life whilst flash backs still leave her cold. Corey is never far from her thoughts....and she is never far from his. An unexpected trip home sees them meeting up again and the connection is even stronger. This book had so many twists to it, my heart was beating so fast. A couple of times I had to put my kindle down and take a deep breath before carrying on, but what a book! Ava and Corey have my heart!
Found Flying Free a very touching and emotional read. Ava's story was heartbreaking and as for her father if you can call him that. I'm not prone to violence but he definitely needs one of life's wake up calls. Corey s every woman's dream. He is hot, sexy, macho, kind, considerate and compassionate. His love for Ava is just tender!! The writing was full of not only how Ava copes with her anxiety but also the impact it has on her life. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book however, there were a few bits where I felt I got bogged down a bit but then it picked up and the action and drama just leapt from the page.
Corey is so manly but cute that he melted me and Jess really intrigued me too, I'd like to learn more about her ;)
The ending is so sweet I had the biggest smile on my face, it was one of those endings that has you saying 'awww'
This is no ordinary love story. This is the story of Ava and Corey and it's a wonderful story. Ava had a less than ideal childhood and when she finally finds a forever home it's even better than she imagined. She had wonderful parents now and interfering but loving brothers who protect her from any harm.
She's now back from college and realizes Corey, a boy whom she knows through her brothers has caught her attention. Corey has some past issues of his own. When they can no longer deny their feelings for each other will they be able to make it?
This book is truly incredible, no review can do it justice! It deserves more than 5 stars but that's all I'm able to give!
I really enjoyed reading this book. The story just grabbed me and held on until the end. It was very well written and the pace was easy. I loved the strength and determination Ava showed, and I was very happy that Corey never let his ego get in the way of being what she needed him to be. I think he is one of most favorite heroes because he was strong without being selfish or overbearing. I would definitely recommend this book!!
I loved this book. But like my headline stated Jess is a total “sketch bag”. I have some inclinations as to what if going on with her and I really hope the next book gives me the insight I’m looking for. Once again didn’t want to put the book down. I love how the real life and fantasy world combine to make this feel like its your neighbours going through this
Lorenzo and Aida a force to be reckoned with! This dark, steamy, intense story will take you on a wild ride of emotions that will leave exhausted and wanting so much more! Every characters goes through their trials and pace with no excuses and this makes it a captivating story to read. Abigail Davies is a new author for me and I will look up more of her work. I volunteered to review this amazing story.
This was such an emotional read. Reading what Ava went through when she was younger until now and what came of it all with her was heartbreaking. Very glad for Corey and her brothers all for being there when she needed them the most. Corey and her were perfect together, age is just a number and I was so happy when they finally got to their happy place.
I am so so so glad that there’s a book for Corey and Ava! I’ve been rooting for them as soon as they were mentioned in the last book and their story couldn’t have been written any better! This book gave me all the feels and I’m so happy they got their happily ever after ❤️
This is a well written emotional book about a young girl who's has to pay the price for her parents addiction. She must overcome mental and physical scars to move on in life . Ava and Corey story are about heartbreaks and love healing all wounds
OMG I loved this book. I really felt for Ava, her strength and courage was amazing. Corey is my hero he says and does all the right things. This is a wonderful story of strength and love. This book is amazingly written, however be warned it's a page turner and I couldn't put it down.
Ava has been through too much in her life. Corey is the only man she has intense feelings for. This is a story of learning to live again after suffering horribly. Corey is her lifeline. Great story and I look forward to reading more. I voluntarily reviewed a copy via Quirky Blind Date with a Book.
After being briefly introduced to Ava and Corey in the Mac Security series you might think you know what's happened and what's going to happen - read Flying Free and see if you're right, even if your not it's a bloody great book.
