Rand: Son of Tallav

Rate this book

Two shamed souls, a mutual enemy and an attraction they can't control...

Randolph Meryon is a man no woman can resist despite the whip he brandishes. Compelled to return home after his sister’s death, he struggles to fit new responsibilities into the hedonistic lifestyle he prefers to live. It’s a task he finds difficult enough without adding in the tangle of unanswered questions his sister has left behind and the sugar-cookie sweet nanny caring for his niece. He hasn’t had a taste of sweet in a very long time.

Jen O'Malley, shunned by her family, struggles to find work without their backing, meeting barriers wherever she turns. A position as nanny with the scandal-riddled Meryons seems like a lifeline. She’s relieved until she arrives and becomes enmeshed in a web of intrigue, unable to discern the identity of the spider at the center.

A gothic romance set in space.

Rand is an outcast on his planet of Tallav. Tallav is an intensely matriarchial society, and Rand is a strong willed dom. Between that and a scandal in his past, Rand is no longer welcome on Tallav, until his estranged older sister dies mysteriously, and he is called home. There he meets his niece's new nanny, Jen, who recently had a fallout with her prominent family. As the two grow closer and begin to explore Jen's submissive leanings, they also have to content with the aftermath of Rand's sister's death.

I liked this story. Both Rand and Jen were enjoyable to read about, and their sex scenes were excellent. I connected more to Rand than to Jen. His struggle just appealed more to me, and I liked reading about him overcoming his internalized issues. I liked Jen, but she felt a bit more shallow to me than Rand was.

I wish we had gotten more information about the world. Maybe it was because this was the third book, but I didn't get a clear picture of the world and how it came to be. Tallav is a matriarchal society with strong cultural ties to Ireland. I'd like to have gotten more history about Tallav and how that came about and what led to the revival of Irish paganism.

This book had a very gothic feeling to it. There were lots of family mysteries and secrets plus some mysterious deaths. I liked the atmosphere of the book, although not all of the mysteries were as well tied up as I would have liked.

There were a couple of weak points, but on the whole, I really liked this book and enjoyed the emotional core of it. I love stories of outcasts finding home with each other, and this was a classic tale of that sort. I thought that Rand and Jen were great for each other, and their relationship worked for me on every level.

Rand, third in the sons of Tallav series is here at last but can be read as a standalone. Yet again, in true Briste fashion, her signature style scintillates her readers as she adroitly draws one into her extraordinary world from the start. Be warned the blurb does not do this book justice. There is so much more to this novel than merely an erotic sci fi. A sadist, Rand's purpose is to inflict pain on his subs and delights doing so. He is returning home but why did he leave in the first place. With intuitive flair, Briste fully exploits the circumstances, Rand's complex persona replete with its hedonistic appetites. Lust, romance, sadism, dominance/submission and intimacy perfectly blend and balance, crafted into one downright potently dirty read that creates a firestorm within the reader leaving them panting for more. However, the sadists among them may feel a tad short changed, as there is not enough sadism for Rand's character. Briste what were you thinking? Sadists will hanker for a bit more than you have allowed, from a character such as Rand. However, could this intensely smouldering sadist have met his match? Can a sadist ever meet a soul mate? After all Rand's fun, interesting lifestyle um…encompasses a hefty dollop of dangerous, with a splash of depravity, all tied around a surprisingly captivating sexual magnetism. Such kink but thanks to Briste's adeptness one does not freak out. The tension in her world only serves to amp up the intrigue and excitement. Rand and Jen's love maybe forbidden, dark, intense, passionate and sensual but there's no mistaking their integrity. This is their voyage of self-discovery and realisation. Their world so unreal, a figment of Briste's imagination, yet it feels real. This is what one loves about Briste – the unreal is so real and devoid of censure. The combo of shit hot, off the chart awesome albeit flawed protractors, and a story of second chances is utterly delicious, ones kindle is on fire as the pages keep turning. Alas, it is the end and one must leave Briste's world. Way to go Briste. Thank you for yet another great yarn.

Being Cruel👋🔪 To the Innocent One👼

Rand Meryon is the Whip Master at a BDSM club he owns on Beta Tau. He is well known for his sadism and his accuracy with a whip. When word comes that his sister Penny has died from a fall from cliffs on Tallav, he knows he must return home to her funeral and the family.
Penny left behind, Sophie, a small daughter, and Rand's mother immediately hires Jen O'Malley, a governess from a different clan, to be with her night and day.
The society on Tallav is matriarchal, controlled by women. That is why Rand lives off world and is a dominant sadist. He needs control.
The book is sci-fi, But The characters are all humans from hundreds of years in the future when man has moved into space and onto new planets.

ARC Received from HG.

I wasn't that impressed with the book and I didn't like the character of Rand all that much. It seemed like everything was for him, he was arrogant and narcissistic, women were there to serve his needs, his fetishes.
The book is well written but not my type of sci-fi romance.

A story that began tragically - the death of a loved one. A kind of gothic story at that with the sensual BDSM, particularly sadism, appliction to it. This is the third book in the series and I haven't read in full the first two yet (although thankfully, the author has provided me with them and will soon read them). The character development and chemistry between the the H and h is great - perfect with each other. And this the first that I've read this kind of futuristic sci-fi story flow where the female is the head of the society. Not much into the BDSM scenes, but I find that the story has substance and it includes mystery, adventure, conflicts, steam with its own twist and turns. And some characters are also intertwined with the other books, so as to feel the full flow of the whole series. A recommended read to those who are into romantic BDSM sci-fi stories.
I received a free copy of this book from Hidden Gems in exchange for an honest review.

When i chose to read this book the first thing i thought to myself was "what the hell am i doing!! I dont do sci-fi"
Well let me tell you something....my best mistake was choosing to read this book!
I absolutely loved the Sons of Tallav series.
Rand returns home to Tallav for his sisters funeral, after being banished from his home at the age of 14. He has made a name for himself as the Whip Master and sadist and is the owner of the most exclusive BDSM club on Beta Tau.
When he sees Jen his niece's nanny, the sadist is unleashed to bring out her masochist and you're in for a steamy read filled with hot and sexy scenes and filled with elements of sadistic BDSM.
This is a well written futuristic romance with elements of BDSM and filled with suspense and mystery that will have you turning the pages and asking "Who did it?!"

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book.

Provided with a free ARC for an honest review. A tender hearted sexual sadist. Impossible? This book really took me by surprise. I expected a lot of dirty dark sex. Instead I got a love story with some BDSM. Rand is raised in a matriarchal society where men are second class citizens completely subservient to the women in the family. He rebels and is living on another planet where he owns a BDSM club. When he returns home after many years due to the death of his sister, he meets Jen, his niece's nanny. Their love story makes up most of the plot along with a murder investigation and a lot of soul searching. I really liked the characters and the story. Although I haven't read the first two books in this series, I definitely plan to. I'd recommend this to those who enjoy a dark romance.

Another r good book I the series

This book has a lot going for it. Randolph Meyron is a great character that you don't know whether to love or at. Jen O'Malley is not as demure as you think. In a world where women rule, the men are taken care of by them. That is except for Rand. He is his own person, sweating to be er let a woman control him.

Even if you don't read BDSM, the story of this bok is worth reading. I read the first two for a review magazine but got the last two simply because I wanted to finish the series and this from a person who doesn't read erotica. Be prepared to want to read this book from beginning to end without putting it down.

I received a copy from Hidden Gems; this is my honest review.
-Randolf and Jen make a special couple; at last they both feel their relationship is a real sado-masochism balance.
-Unlike the previous books, this one has a lot of religious aspects to it. It didn't really bother me because it fit in the story and explained several things.
-The end leaves a lot to the imagination since we don't really know how they will live between the two worlds.
-The culprit to the mystery is not a surprise but the motive is, up until the end! Good job!

Wow I absolutely loved this one. I’ve been anxiously awaiting Rand’s story for a while now and this was so far off from what I was expecting. Cailin did a great job creating Rand’s backstory. I’m just so blown away.

This started off with such a tragedy, and it broke my heart but it also will have any reader immediately hooked. From reading the previous books, you get to know Rand as a very playful sadist, but here we get to find out all about how he became who he is. We get to witness the dynamics of a society ran by women which I love. We also get some murder mystery thrown in which was loads of fun. What I loved most was both Jen and Rand’s transformation throughout the story. I really enjoyed learning more about sadism and masochism since I’m very new to the lifestyles.

Rand is still my favorite Tallav guy. His sense of humor still has me smiling now. Jen is a great match for him and I thought they had perfect chemistry. I understand that Master Trey’s story is next, and I was thinking that I’d be really interested in Nicholas’s story. When Jen told his story, I was left craving to learn more about him!

Anyways, I highly recommend this series. Each book has some character overlap which I absolutely love!

I received a copy and volunteered to review it.

Jen is disowned by her family for helping her cousin escape from a marriage forced upon him by the matriarch of the O'Malley family. Rand is the son of the powerful Meryon family, a sexual sadist, and a powerful businessman in his own right. When his sister dies he is called home by his mother and plans to spend a few months on Tallav, before returning to his business. His sister Penny, who disavowed him when he was young, has left him guardianship of her young daughter in her will. Jen and Rand will marry in an effort to ensure that Rand is his niece's guardian. Rand comes to believe that his sister's death is murder, and his investigation will put both Rand and Jen in danger.
Wow, sizzling hot and sexy BDSM, with fascinating and well written characters. I thought this was a fantastic, happily ever after romance with a suspenseful and unique plot. I loved this book!

I am voluntarily leaving an honest and non-incentivized review of this book.
