3 Being True to Yourself Stars

People have this nasty habit of wanting to just escape from the emotional pain they are in. It can be the loss of a parent or a break up or a betrayal of a best friend or a career that has hit the skids...
Or it could be all of the above. Summer has recently hit the trifecta of emotional distress. She was in a relationship for 11 with a man she thought she loved... and he loved her back. Turns out, he was cheating with her best friend. Her father had become ill, he didn't let on until it was too late and she is mourning his passing for the last months or so.
Oh, and the law firm she was a part of... it turned out to be scamming its clients so Summer has been painted by their tainted brush and she cannot get a position as an attorney.
One good thing though, her real best friend runs a headhunter company and arranged for her to move to Chicago to work as a PA for an attorney to get her back in the game. As Summer is checking her mail, she gets hit with the wedding invitation from her ex and ex best friend. What the Hell... Oh no, Summer can not sit in her shoe box of a studio apartment for one minute more...
Down the way is an upscale club. Summer decides to go and sit at the bar. As she is collection her thoughts, she sees a woman flirting with a guy and looking like she is having a blast... like the two of them are having so much fun...She calls the bartender over and says I want what she is having...and she really means it... she wants the happiness and care free feel this other woman is having with her man...
The bartender gives her the same frothy pink drink, warning her it is strong so take it slow...Summer doesn't listen and gulps down the first taste...Oh, this think is a fast track to woozy land...but it is doing the trick...freeing Summer from being so perfect all the time... because look where it got her...
Alex is pissed. He has worked his entire life trying to please his dad yet also please himself. He is a top notch attorney, capable of more then most at the family's firm... but his father doesn't see it that way. Instead, the father is threatening to not give him the partnership he so rightly deserves. Alex has taken himself to the club to just drink and forget what he has to deal with tomorrow.
Summer is feeling loose and free... the dance music is calling out to her and she decides to go and get her groove on. As she moves to the beat, she senses someone is watching her... and see the man in the back corner looking at her as if he wants to eat her for lunch...Summer cannot look away...but finally does. She continues to dance and then he appears of the floor next to her.
The drinks have made her feel good and this man is making her feel better... The attraction is there and before she realizes it, they are chatting in the VIP area...These two are like magnets, so drawn and attracted...Summer does something she has never done before... she goes home with Alex, having an amazing one night stand...
The next day, Summer may be wanting to stay...as Alex wants to continue where the night left off...But she slips away as she has a new job to get to...
Alex wishes Summer hadn't left as he wanted to know more about her...Instead he is at the office listening to the threats his father is saying ... He is telling him if he does not win this new case for a family friend then he can kiss the family law practice partnership goodbye. Oh, and the other threat is for Alex to keep his nose clean and not mix business with any pleasure...In other words, Do Not Date the PA's.
Well, in walks Summer as Alex's PA... and we are off to the races!
This story has a lot of moving piece; a romance, intrigue, a coming of understanding who you are and relish it. There are parts which were a bit back and forth in figuring out what paths to take...what with the romance being a boss and PA...
Overall entertaining.

You will probably fall in love with Alex from the moment you meet him. Tall, handsome, sexy and successful. The past year has been really bad for Summer. She is starting over and starting new. the night before the start of her new job, she decides to let it all out. She meets Alex and has what she believes is an unbelievable one night stand. However, she quickly realized she slept with her boss. Things get even more interesting from that point on. Both characters have things they have to work through. Summer and Alex grow throughout the story. The become even stronger together. Great story with great character development.

Overall this was an enjoyable read. At times I just wanted to punch Summer. She had a great man in front of her and she kept pushing him away. I get that she was betrayed but denying herself that chance was too much. Thankfully she finally caved in and got what she deserved. I just wished that she wasn't so stubborn about it.

What a fun read this is! Go out for a drink meet hot guy, go to new job in the morning and hot guy is the boss oh and still deal with father's death and ex's. And that's the start to a relationship that is moving, funny and just plain puts a smile on your face! Summer and Alex both find more then they expected or wanted after their night together. When you meet that person there's no going back just follow the rules until you get to the last one. It's a story I didn't want to end, I just wanted more of them. A great must read romance!!

Well written story with nice storyline and plot. The characters are very well described and they have an amazing chemistry. I like it is written in dual POV, which gives the reader both the thoughts and feelings of the main characters. That makes the story even more emotional and captivating.
A mix of family issues, broken heart, drama, action, steamy scenes, love and emotions makes it an amazing read. The twists are unexpected.
This story is written with the intension of captivating the reader. I was caught from the first to last chapter. In this case opposites really attract each other but can they give into it. Summer has had a lot of pain in her past. The loss of her father and a cheating boyfriend that is marrying her best friend is some of the things that makes her move away to start a new life. This book is the first I've read from Khardine and it won't be my last. I really loved this book. The writing and characters were written beautifully and I absolutely adore Alex. This has been one of my favorite books that I've read this year. Great book.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The beginning took some time for me to get into the book, however once I did I had a hard time putting it down. Alex character is what I think most women want in a man. He was not only intelligent, but he was sensitive, intuitive, strong, funny, alpha male and kind. Summer embodied the thoughts and feelings of what many women have to go through and she shared experiences that is very common amongst women. I received this book as an advanced readers and I am so glad I did. I would recommend this book for anyone to read.

I’m gonna’ need a bigger superlative…
Seriously. I don’t think my vocabulary is big enough for this one, so I may just opt for sounding like a love-sick high-schooler instead. After all, that’s what mega-hunk Alex Sullivan does to me in this astonishing novel!
This story has it going on in so many different ways, it’s nothing short of incredible. The plot is intense and intelligent, treating the reader to an intriguing and complex set of circumstances well beyond the run of the mill storyline. The characters are realistic, engaging, and dynamic as they reel us into their world and teach us to love or loath them. Then there are the lovers themselves, Alex and Summer. Whoa, Baby—
Alex is more than he seems. Which is pretty amazing when you consider that he seems like a sex god: so stinkin’ handsome he must have made a pact with the Devil, riotously ripped body, confidence that comes from always getting what he goes after, and a really BIG… bank account. What more does anyone need? LOL. Yet, as the story progresses, we realize this is only the outer shell of a truly amazing man that few people really know. He simply gets better and better as the novel continues, going from swoon-worthy-sex-god to yep-that’s-my-dream-man in a few short chapters. I. Am. Ruined.
So, by rights, I should completely hate Alex’s love interest, Summer. But I can’t. She is, in fact, worthy of my respect. She’s brilliant, beautiful, loyal to a fault, and driven. Her drive and loyalty unfortunately led to a bit of naivety as well, but she’s learned her lessons the hard way. After all, she is not an idiot. She just wants to believe the best from those she loves—a pretty admirable quality.
Summer and Alex together absolutely hang the stars. They are dazzling with a passion so vivid it’s soul-searing; the sort of intense attraction we all hope for, but few find. The magnificence of their love story unfolding is reminiscent of the craving and complexity of a beautiful tango danced by exquisite performers. It’s completely passionate, lustful, and mesmerizing.
What can the concerned reader expect from this book? Well, this is one you can share with your co-workers: it’s got a LOT of seriously steamy heat with Alex and Summer, and there is some mature language in what could be considered appropriate places (as opposed to gratuitous use). While this is an 18+ story, it’s a great read with intelligence, passion, and wit.

Dream….Believe….Achieve….. those were the words that Alex Sullivan has tattooed on his chest, rules he lives by. He also had another set of rules, rules of attraction and he was waiting to finish writing when he found “the one” that made him want to finish the list. Summer Daniels is having one very craptastic life lately; she lost her father, her job, her boyfriend and best friend and moved to Chicago to start fresh. Could she dream, believe, achieve her best life with Alex Sullivan.
4.5/5 (a few spelling errors knocked it down a peg or so) The Rules of Attraction by Khardine Gray was a good read from start to finish. I loved the character development of each secondary character (and there were a few but not overwhelming) and some back stories for a couple secondary characters. Alex and Summer meet in a club and go back to his place for what was believed to be a one night stand. That meeting turns into so much more when after running out on him the morning after, Summer turns out to be Alex’s new law PA.
The story moves quickly shuffling between Alex and Summer getting to know one another and Alex’s work situation. He has always wanted to please his dad and now is his last chance to impress him enough to earn his rightful spot as Senior Executive once his dad retires. His final case is wearing him down as his gut is telling him to not represent this long time family friend but if he doesn’t he risks alienating his father.
Summer and Alex are a good fit, with a little drama in the background involving Summer’s long time boyfriend thrown in, they show what a great team they make. I feel like I learned more about Alex overall even though it was written to be more of a Summer story. Summer has had a few upsets in her life. Her boyfriend of eleven years was hooking up with her best friend behind Summer's back, and the law firm she worked at as an attorney closed after their illegal practices were found out. Now the only job she can get is as a paralegal in a new city and her new boss, Alex Sullivan, just happens to be the guy from her one and only one night stand the night before. Awkward.
It’s been a while since I read a Khardine Gray book so I grabbed the chance to read an early copy of this one. Not only are her characters strong and intelligent, they always make me feel something. I loved Summer and Alex, both individually and together, so that made for a quality read for me. They were mature characters dealing with real life situations, and I found nothing about them to dislike. Even when one had a crisis of conscience, it wasn’t a drawn out, overly angsty situation, things were quickly righted, and the happily ever after commenced. It’s been a while since I read a Khardine Gray book so I grabbed the chance to read an early copy of this one. Not only are her characters strong and intelligent, they always make me feel something. I loved Summer and Alex, both individually and together, so that made for a quality read for me. They were mature characters dealing with real life situations, and I found nothing about them to dislike. Even when one had a crisis of conscience, it wasn’t a drawn out, overly angsty situation, things were quickly righted, and the happily ever after commenced. Their story is captivating, entertaining and heartfelt, and is sure to delight any romantic heart.

Great read!
We all know about attraction, but do you know about the rules?
Summer has been through a lot. The law firm she worked ruined everyone's name who ever worked there due to a few bad apples who took down the whole company. Then when she gets home she finds out her father is dying, her boyfriend tells her to just focus on him only for him to come to her with her best friend after her father's funeral to tell her that they are together. She decides to move but the only job she can get in a law office is as a PA and that's because her friend helped her out. Nothing seems to be going right so she decides to go to the club, after getting some news, just to forget about life. There she meets Alex.
Alex decides to go to the club that night to forget about life too. He just finished a case that took up too much and didn't get the due credit for the win. His father can only see the things he did wrong. He doesn't care what anyone but his father thinks.
But when they see each other sparks fly and Alex has rules about attraction..and you can't fight it.
Love the characters. For someone being so smart Summer had her moments where she was just dumb! But you can't fight attraction.

This is one of those reads that will stay with you for a long time. The story is AMAZING, the characters are AMAZING, the plot is AMAZING, the flow is perfect, the steamy scenes are sensual, the banter is spot on, Alex is a definite book boyfriend who made it into my top 5 and Summer, I couldn’t help but fall in love with as well.
Alex is kind, generous, a bit crazy but sincere and doesn’t give up on Summer. Summer is a smart, beautiful, determined woman who was a little broken and down on her luck when she meets Alex. Their attraction is intense and the sparks flew off of the pages, the two were honest and real with each other and it was hard to think of them as characters in a book, they felt real.
I LOVED how they were together and even though Alex was a playboy he wasn’t a man wh***, with women coming out of the woodwork and I LOVED how there were no jealousies that got out of hand. What really got me was near the end when Summer finally put herself first making my eyes misty and what Alex did regarding his dad....LOVED IT !! A book I HIGHLY recommend and a read not to be missed.

This is one book that feels like caramel drizzling down a chocolate sundae that you do not want to stop eating. Summer has had her share of hard times. Her father passes away and shortly after the funeral she finds out that her boyfriend has cheated on her with her best friend so she decides to pick herself up and move to Chicago away from it all. However, she receives a letter inviting her to her ex’s upcoming marriage to her ex-best friend. To drown her sorrows, she winds up at a club where she meets Alex the handsome, debonair billionaire. The two have an instant attraction to each other and Summer lets her other side out to play and have a one-night affair. Imagine the surprise on Summer’s face when she arrives to begin her new job the next day and realizes that Alex is her new boss. These two characters are made for each other but can they have their happily ever after? This is one book that you want to click and download because you will not stop reading it until the end. I highly recommend this book.

I didn’t know this author, but I definitely will read her next books. It’s a great well written story with few hot sex scenes. The characters and the dialogues are excellent.
Summer receives a invitation to the wedding of her ex bestfriend with her ex boyfriend. Disgusted, she decides to go to a night club the evening before she starts her new job. There, she meets Alex. The attraction between them is huge and he convinces the good girl to be with him all night. The next morning, after an amazing night together, she escapes for her first day in her new job. She was a lawyer, but after a scandal in her last firm, she needed a new job and she’s hired like a PA. Then, she discovers her new boss : Alex.
He follows his rules of attraction, but she doesn’t think it will be a good idea to pursue anything. That’s when starts a long seduction game from Alex to Summer.
Their relation would be simplier if her ex didn't annoy her, if she could fight her fears, if Alex’s father didn't threaten him to not be a partner of the law firm if he doesn’t work on a case that Alex doesn’t want, because he thinks this case is a fraud.

This is my 1st book that I have read by Khardine Gray & I thoroughly enjoyed it. There's so much going on NOT just in the attraction of each other that Summer Daniels & Alex Sullivan have from the second they have for each other, but the underlining of their inner connection.
Here we hear what bought Summer to Chicago & all the heart break she went through the months leading up to being there & meeting her 1 night stand, well that's what she thought he was ONLY going to be, that was until she turned up at the law firm she was starting as a PA.
Here we see what a kind generous man Alex is, even though he's also a great no bars held kinda lawyer. And doesn't do relationships, but he wants to be there for Summer especially after seeing the 'apartment' she lives in, there's just this connection between these 2 even though Summer doesn't trust her own feelings anymore, she knows that she likes Alex in both as a boss & a new friend. And she does learn to trust him, especially after she hears & sees the way he reacts to her ex.
There's lots to see with these 2 & how they are & how far their attraction goes......

Have you ever has the feeling of hitting rock bottom? Summer has just lost her father, her fiancé, her best friend, and her job. She heads off to Chicago broke and a suitcase for the chance at a job. On a whim she heads out to a club and meets Alex the are drawn to each other. Against everything in her armed with Angels on Sex she heads out for a one night stand that changes her entire life.
Alex doesn't believe in love. In college he writes 7 Rules of Attraction his version of a relationship only he never makes it past 2 until Summer. She is out to change everything. Alex wants to make his father happy but can never seem to all the while building his rules with Summer he is working to make his father proud only he may have to choose.
I really like the story line created in this book. I have read this author before and have enjoyed all of the work. The Rules of Attraction is a unique look on love and I like seeing a different point of view. It is always good when a book can make you take a step back and take a look. I recommend this book it is a great read.

A beautifully written story that will have you falling in love. Alex is a very handsome, rich and personable man. He has everything going for him except what he really wants and that's being senior partner at his father's law firm. Summer has had a bit of a rough year. Dating the same man for 11 years to find out he was sleeping with her best friend and now marrying her. Her father just passed away a few years ago and she is a lawyer who was working for a law firm who got their hands caught in the cookie jar so to speak and is having a hard time finding a job at a law firm due to this. When these two first meet at a nightclub, it was supposed to be for one fun night. Will things evolve from there? Alex has rules of attraction and runs them by Summer, will they exceed those rules? Will morals be put before selfishness? You will fall in love with Alex when you see how he treats Summer, it is exceptional. I liked Summer too because she isn't afraid to take care of herself. This book was well written, the characters were very enjoyable and the storyline itself was great. Enjoy

What an amazing book.
I absolutely loved this from the start.
Summer all her life has felt that her world was complete, perfect boyfriend, she had an amazing dad, and a perfect job she loved.
But then it all comes crashing down when her father falls ill and her perfect boyfriend is not so perfect at all and amazing job turns out to be a fraud.
One night she lets loose and falls right into the arms of a man who will give her anything she wants if she would just give in.
Alex has always wanted his fathers approval at everything he has done within the family business and outside. Only thing is is his father has a different opinion of what his career should be and how it should be handled.
The night Alex goes out he see a blonde beauty who is looking to have some fun and he is the man for it, but one look into her eyes and he can’t let her go.
Alex is a man on a mission to find this girl and claim her, but he won’t have to look far when she walks into his office to be his assistant.

“Rules of Attraction” is an excellent story that captured my heart from the first page. Summer's father has just died when her cheating boyfriend of eleven years dumps her to marry her best friend. She leaves her job and moves to Chicago to start over. After arriving in Chicago, Summer receives an invitation to the wedding of her ex and best friend. Summer decides to stop at a bar to have a drink, dance and try to forget. She meets Alex a handsome wealthy lawyer and there is an intense chemistry between the two. Summer throws caution to the wind and sleeps with Alex. What a surprise when the next day, she meets her new boss and it's Alex her one-night stand. Can Summer ignore what happened and continue to work with Alex? “Rules of Attraction” is a romantic and passionate story you won't want to miss.

This was a cute rom-com with sizzling chemistry and a look at the ethics issues faced by lawyers. Alex is immediately taken with Summer, but since her life has recently imploded she's beyond cautious and determined to rise from the ashes. Getting the job with Alex's company is the first step; avoiding any romantic entanglements with her new boss is the most important step.
Of course, Alex is just as determined to get Summer to stop ignoring their attraction, so he shares with her his "rules" that help guide their working relationship into something more. Eventually, it ends up being more than Alex had bargained for. I loved the way he interacted with his family, and how he honestly struggled with the realization that his career goals were incompatible with his code of ethics. They met in a club and the sparks were so hot I'm.surprised the fire brigade were'nt called. This was instant attraction but after one night Alex had to work hard for more. Loved this story, I'm glad he had to prove himself and didn't get all his own way, the ending was so worth his effort and sacrifice. This wasn't just about romance it was about standing up for your beliefs even if sometimes you have to go against those you love and what you have worked so hard for. I feel in the end Alex and His Angel got the better deal. I loved sinking into my reading of this and emersing myself in their lives and the troubles they had to fight, their awesome friends were everything you could possibly want in friendship. There were awesome sweet moments that made my heart sore as well as a few that gave me a tear or two. My first read by this author and yes I will be checking more books out.

I read books to escape, as an attorney myself I typically stay away from books about attorneys and I should’ve ran from this one! Civil litigators have NOTHING to do with Crimes or Prosecutors! That’s why it’s called “Civil” !!
The majority of the plot line was about a civil case ( that part was right) but the plaintiffs were “guilty” (nope they were civilly liable) and the “prosecutor” was going after his client. Nope again they were being sued for damages and the other attorney would be another civil litigator. Summer couldn’t be hired as an attorney because she would have to take the Illinois bar exam since she previously practiced in California. Her fathers debts would never become hers. And how would she lose her professional wardrobe & money in two years? Stupid stupid stupid. And typos galore. Terrible don’t waste your time.

Ok guys. I hope your ready. I love Gray's style. Talk about getting to the heart of the matter. This is a take no prisoner's romance. Hot, hard hitting, fast paced, action packed, smooth flowing read that captures your attention from the start. This is one page turning tale that will definitely keep you on the razors edge. Heart pounding, pulse racing, adrenaline pumping, nailbiting rollercoaster ride that spins faster than a category 5 tornado. Yeah, they don't make 'em like this. The characters and scenes were intriguing and complex. With such graphic detailed descriptions that really brought this read together beautifully. Remarkable job Gray. Thanks for sharing this little jewel with us.

Rules of Attraction by Khardine Gray is a wonderfully well written book. The storyline and characters are riveting. Summer and Alex’s story is just as sweet as it is sexy. Summer needs time to process all that came before meeting Alex and he’s able read Summer well enough not to press. I fell for Alex right away! He’s charming, sexy, flirty & fun. He’s also a true gentleman, except in the bedroom!
Khardine Gray manages to include some law firm dramatic flair as well adding an element of suspense that kept me fully engaged and enthralled. I love it from beginning to end!
