North Carolina author Shane Wilson earned his Masters degree in English from Valdosta State University in Georgia and taught college level English as well as publishing his poetry and writing short stories and novels. His books to date – A YEAR SINCE THE RAIN, THE BOY WHO KISSED THE RAIN, and THE SMOKE IN HIS EYES.

The Review

A truly powerful and emotional read, the author does a great job of embracing the magical realism genre in this book. The novel does a fantastic job of establishing a fully realistic and heartbreaking world for protagonist TJ early on, as the reader not only sees the traumatic event unfold in his childhood but sees the signs of the troubled life TJ endures for most of his life.

While the magical element of the story and the relationship developed with Muna becomes a crucial part of TJ’

This is one of the best books I have read this year. It is Wilson’s second novel and his first was also excellent. But this is even better. Although it is short it packs a lot into the story. TJ is a young boy who witnesses a traumatic event which results in his seeing visions. He finds joy in his music and when he goes off to college he meets a girl who shares his feelings for making music. He is also searching for love and connections with others. Loved it!

I'm sorry it took me so long to read it. Once I started, I hated putting it down. Shane writes with such quality that I can see the story as if I were watching it. It's so different than anything I've read.
