About the author

Elayna Mae Darcy (she/they) is a queer poet, YA author, and filmmaker who just has a lot of feelings. A proud Philadelphian, Elayna has a passion for engaging with fandom communities, and has written articles, produced podcasts, and spoken on panels across the country. With a head in the clouds and heart in the stars, Elayna is the author of the sci-fi short story, CONTINUUM (2017), and the poetry collection, UNRAVELING LIGHT (2018). Most days they can be found scribbling stories in cafes or wandering about Philly with their camera in hand.

Admittedly I am just a smidge biased on this one as it is my book, but I can say that 12 out of 5 did I pour my whole heart and soul into these poems. They tell personal tales of failures and triumphs, loves and losses, and address my journey to learn faith in the face of adversity. I do hope that you all enjoy reading them as much as I treasured each moment writing them and that you are able to drop a rating or review here on Goodreads if you did! Wowie wow wow!!!! What a raw and deeply emotional read. I haven't been this touched by a book in a WHILE. Elayna is a master wordsmith and poet, using the tempo of her poetry to her advantage to weave just absolute gut punches of art that hit their notes perfectly There's so much beauty in this collection of poetry and it gives such a warm light of comfort along the way. I hope it touches everyone who reads it and their heart as much as it touched me because I absolutely adored this riveting collection of poems. I literally don't even know why I'm trying to write other words to compare to the much better words written in this book. Just read this book and you'll understand the true beauty exhibited with Elayna's words that I'm failing terribly to convey in this review.

I’m glad I read this poetry collection. When I reached "Starved," I had to put the book down and step away before coming back to it. It was that emotional and beautiful of a poem. Darcy is somehow able to communicate the trials of her depression while still leaving you with a tender sense of hope. I’ll be gifting Unraveling Light to friends, and I look forward to seeing more of Darcy's work.

It's not often that I pick up poetry books, but this was lovely. Elayna's words give a sense of shining optimism despite whatever struggles she has faced in her life. Loved the doodles scattered throughout too. Looking forward to what she puts out next.

These poems go into the dark places yet still overflow with hope. A great read for anyone who needs a boost of serotonin, this collection pairs its deeply genuine heart with adorable drawings.
