The Slayer's Reverse Harem #2

Cuddling Sucks in Coffins

Rate this book
Betraying him might save her life…but at risk of losing him forever.

Belle Harrison, vampire slayer, would give anything for a simple night of patrolling on her own damn terms. But the graveyard is crawling with creeps with hidden agendas. Not to mention the dark unknown that wants to take her out.

And we’re not talking dates here, people.

Good thing Belle has three panty-melting vampires to help her.

Except one of her guys has a past that’s catching up with him. Violently. Belle’s fairly certain she can save him. But if she betrays him, she’ll gain a wealth of knowledge that could help her survive the dark unknown.

A lot is at stake, including everything that makes her the slayer she is, and it just plain sucks.

Still rolling at around 2.5 for me in book 2. Continuing the audible collection for book 2. I still recommend the 1.25X speed because this FMC, has the inner conversations all day everyday.. Really drags the story down but I don't feel its the narrators fault. We also get alot of recap moments in book 2 explaining things from book one again. Still seems a little on the rushed side though we do get some relief since the devil doesn't seem to be after Belle anymore. Honestly I just keep waiting for that aha moment when Belle is going to become this awesome Bad A and its just not happening. She just gets her butt kicked over and over and its getting a little on the old side.

In book 2 our Belle gets arrested for murder.. it seems all her late night trips to the graveyard has made her suspect #1. Something is up though. Not only is Belle starting to become more aware of "Paul" the entity after her but it looks like this Paul has help and the target is the mausoleum that is Belles biggest sanctuary. The arresting cop though seems to be onto Belle, and he has some secrets of his own tied to the mausoleum. There is also a new "old" vamp on the scene with a taste for some vengeance and Belle unfortunately can't even reveal him or any information about him to her boys. Paul is showing new tricks as he takes possession of more and more entities in his quest to take out the slayer.. and even her vampires aren't safe from him.. or her it seems.

I mean there is some interesting things happening but I don't feel close or connected to any of the characters and I'm not Belle's biggest fan. She seems more like a sex starved teenager rather than the bad A slayer she is supposed to be. I don't know. I still feel the need to finish the collection but I feel like its going to be a little ruff. I feel like this would make a better TV series than it does a book.. not sure if I have ever felt that way before.. but yea.

Story: I was a bit disappointed in this book. I didn't really feel like Belle grew in the ways that she needed to in the first book or this second book. In the first book, it was clear that she didn't really have fighting skills and I don't feel like that has improved at this point. I guess there's not much time for this when the books are so short but still, that irks me. I don't understand why she thinks she's invincible on her own when there are older vampires out there as well as Paul being after her. It's almost as if she wants to die. She's constantly so determined to go out on her own in the dark when so many would want to cause her harm.

It's quite unbelievable to me that Belle can go to school, work a job, vampire slay and then have time for anything else after all that. It also drove me crazy that we still don't know what Paul is and there's really no way to defend themselves against him. So pretty much, the plot is driving me crazy. It was still somewhat enjoyable though.

Narration: Melissa Schwairy - I really loved her narration of this series. She does a wonderful guy voice and she really distinguishes between the different characters.

This is a funny, fast paced read. Belle is a likable, contempoary girl with a considerable sex drive and plenty of man to share it with. Despite the sexual element, it is well placed to keep the storyline moving yet not a driving force within the novel.

Unfortunately I have no idea when the next novel will be released, so let’s hope the series doesn’t fall overboard.

I really want to love this series but, it's just but gripping me.
This installment picks up right where book 1 ends, it's kind of like episodes. There is still some humor and sexiness. The characters are still likable but, there's no zing. I'm missing something.
I'm really starting to feel a disconnect with our hero. For a vampire slayer she's kind of ditsy and all over the place. Her inner monologue made me laugh in book 1, Vampires Don't Give Hickeys, and this one it made me roll my eyes many times
Still very curious with where this is going that I will give book 3 a chance.

So now that the Devil’s offer of marriage is off of the table, there is still that pesky bit about a darkness that is supposed to claim her before her twenty-first birthday. What a mess right?! Belle is pretty sure that the darkness goes by the name of Paul, but can she really be sure? What if this is the first challenge out of several to come? Ryan has a no-nonsense, kick-ass female heroine who has some impossible decisions to make and this second installment continues to engulf readers on her journey to find answers.

Belle Harrison now has not one, but three vampire lovers. Talk about epic fail in the Vampire Slayer arena. These vampires are different though; they are not mindless, soulless creatures who are ruled by their hunger like the ones that she typically slays. Rather, they are smart, caring, and compassionate. The selling point–wait for it–they dedicate their lives to those in need! How can you kill anyone like that? Apparently, there is still someone who wants revenge against one of her beloved vampires. When Belle runs into him unexpectedly while on patrol, she may not have any other way to protect her lover other than to agree to work with this new assailant who claims to have information about an invaluable group. As if that was enough–there is still Paul–lingering in the shadows, just waiting for his chance to strike.

Ryan has a fantastic short story, filled with creativity and originality. The pace is very quick, but easy to follow. The story appears to be written fairly well. Since this review compliments the audiobook, the narrator was magnificent with her voice relay. The scenes are vivid for the imagination and characters are entertaining. This is the second installment in the Slayer’s Reverse Harem Series; however, it is not recommended as a standalone. Due to previous information revealed in the first installment, a reader may become lost or confused with reading the second installment first. If you are interested in paranormal romance and suspense, this may be a perfect fit.

I still don't feel that the term Reverse Harem fits with this series. It continues the adventures of Belle Harrison but this time we get to see more of her relationship with three men. The story continues right where the first book left off and builds on the relationship of the four of them. We also get to see how those men came to be. Part of that previous life has filtered into what Belle does.

This was my second listen for both the author and the narrator. Our author gave me a second reminder of what I love about the paranormal romance genre. The difference from the first book was that I didn't want to be multitasking while getting to know more about these two women and the characters their helping get to know. Ms. Ryan still feeds my love for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series and I've gotten used to Ms. Schwairy telling me a good story. Still thinking that I need to do a relisten around Halloweentime - especially when you think about where Belle's job takes her. What better time to get up close and personal with the unexplained?

I'm still finding the story too short - but that's a good thing. The good news is that I'm finding myself getting hooked on this series. The sound issues I had in the first book didn't seem to make an appearance here so it made it much easier to listen instead of wondering when I was going to hear something I shouldn't. But there's a sadness to my story. I see that there are more books to Belle's adventures but I'm not seeing anymore audiobooks but I do see books and that's where the sadness comes in. The good news to my story is that Ms. Ryan does have other books in the series that I can read as opposed to listening to. And that won't stop me for watching out for more audiobooks either.

I voluntarily reviewed an Audiobook copy of this book.

**I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Holly Ryan. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.**

A lot more time is spent on the sexual shenanigans in Book 2 of this series, occasionally at the expense of plot advancement. Threats abound and there’s a finite deadline for figuring shit out, and yet Belle is way more distracted by dick than seems reasonable—even if it is attached to impressive, go-all-night, supernatural hotties. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed the book and Ms. Ryan wrote those scenes very well, I just wish the sex hadn’t been in lieu of character development.

I’m glad Melissa Schwairy read this second book. After listening to a longer series like The Dresden Files, I’ve come to really appreciate it when the same narrator reads all the books. It just adds an extra level of immersion to know you’re going to hear the characters the same way each time, and that narrator becomes the characters. As with Book 1, the audio quality was professional and uninterrupted by background noise, weird pauses, or bad splicing.

Bottom line: "Cuddling Sucks in Coffins" was a nice, if somewhat slow-moving, sequel to "Vampires Don't Give Hickeys" and recommended for lovers of paranormal romances, reverse harems, and good narrators.

CUDDLING SUCKS IN COFFINS is the second of five books in the Slayer’s Reverse Harem series. They do need to be read in the order of release.

This is another quick story in this reverse harem paranormal romance series. Though Belle speaks of fantasies of being with all of her vamps, she remains a one-at-a-time lover so far. I hope that she will explore more of those fantasies in future stories.

The big, dark, unknown nasty, that is currently known as Paul has some frightening magic that kept me glued to my car seat and mad at the rain that was entirely too loud at times (LOL). You can bet I was rewinding to hear what the rain had washed away.

I definitely want to listen to the rest of this series! I encourage anyone who enjoys paranormal smexy short stories to join the fun.

My final thought: I love the titles! If you follow me at all, you know I love puns, playing on words, and playing with words. I say, “Well done, Miss Ryan!”

Narration: The narrator, Melissa Schwairy, is a masterful storyteller. She gives her characters individual voices with emotions that match the text. She enunciates and pronounces well. I’ve already started a relisten, just to enjoy the narration again.

Note: While I received this book as a gifted audiobook copy via Audiobookworm, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

The second book has more of a suspenseful storyline with wittiness, hot sexy scenes and some bloody not so good times. Belle has found three hunky vamps she can keep her hands off of. Or any other body part it seems. Still trying to figure out what to do with Paul, be a slayer and fight the unknown darkness should be enough for anyone but Belle is a special case. More keeps coming and the slayer is doing the best she can. Sometimes to beat a monster you have to become one. Can she do it? Will it be enough? This cute series has snark to cut up the dark and evilness. I love the way her mind works. Narrator is the same in book two abs continues to do a wonderful job.

Fun, intense & sexy~

As the suspense picks up for the slayer will she make it to her 21st birthday? There are forces trying to insure that doesn't happen. In this second installment, Belle faces some intense moments and Sawyer, Jack, and Eddie are by her side helping in anyway they can, yet there are even forces that even they have no control over. They pressure is building along with my anticipation of what is going to happen next. So far this series has not disappointed and I recommend you get a copy of your own. The author is doing an exceptional job of building layer after layer of suspense along with some wonderful time with her guys. :)

Good book, quite entertaining but mainly due to the dialogue between characters and ultimately the inner dialogue of Belle, the MFC.

Her tendancy to sing lyrics changign the words to fit her feelings or the situation is fun, although the audible narrator doesn't actually sing them which makes me grumpy - even if she is tone deaf it would add to the character lol!

The vampires she hooks up with are fun, but the multiple back stories of them, and the hunter chasing them for revenge and the Devil trying to marry her, not to mention 'Paul'... it is too much to keep track of hence the 4/5.

I've still treated myself to all the series on kindle and on audible though :)

A fast burn, reverse harem, paranormal romance. this was written in the same style as book 1, plenty of laughs, but the story is starting to get a little darker as Belle faces another slayer who can save her from the darkness if she betrays one of her men. The decision Belle faces was hard to read about, and the changes in the people around her from the encroaching darkness was really sinister and gave me chills! I really enjoyed this book, and Melissa's narrating style, I can't wait to start book 3!

This story is the perfect continuation for vampire slayer Belle and her merry trio of vampire lovers. I got sucked into book one right away and this one was even more addictive. I can't wait to find out what happens with them and how they defeat the big bad Paul to save Belle's life before her twenty-first birthday. This series is full of sass, humor and steam. And it's completely addictive...you've been warned!

Decent continuation

Not a bad 2nd book. I did like this one better than the 1st. It seemed to be more detailed and better flow of the story. The dilemma with Paul, The Detective, and Roseff’s brother is adding plenty of drama and suspense. The relationships between Belle and the 3 men are still pretty hot and evolving. This was a quick read, just like the first book but still enjoyable.

I'm just so beyond glad I found this series.

This book transcended how good the first book was because we got to find out so much more on the whole situation with Paul.

I will say there are plenty of steamy moments in this book but also plenty of horror as well. This book kept me flipping pages till the very end. When I noticed there were no more pages I was relieved I had the third book ready to read.

Good series

This is a fun series to read, kind of odd for a vampire series though. The main character is a slayer but is having an affair with three vampires.
This story is definitely for adults and does contain graphic sex so if that's a problem then don't read it.
The book is full of action, mystery and really hot sex.

This is a fun, CRAZY short read.

I’m really enjoying how the story has progressed with Belle and her vamps.

Ending was off to me. It did not end at a logical stopping point in my opinion. But, it was still entertaining enough that I plan on reading the next book.

I would give this book a 10 if I could.

I had to have this book after reading "Vampires Don't Give Hickeys". I have to admit the name and subject appealed to me. I had to read the next book in the series, and I was so confident, I bought both of the remaining books in the series.

I don't think Belle has an evil.bone in her body.Although she is being force to do something that goes against her very fiber she is still trying to find that loop hole to save apart of her heart. Although I would like to know how none of the others didn't find out about it.

Loved Belle!

I really loved the chemistry between Belle, Jacek, Eddie, and Sawyer. Belle captured Ronick so Jacek could talk to him and use his sword. Belle needed to get her powers back.
Thank you Ms. Ryan for another great story. Can't wait to read the next chapter.

The humor, banter, and steamy scenes are picking up. The pacing of this book was also better in book 2. Another cliffhanger, some character development, a new antagonist. The police station scene was so confusing but I skimmed thru it.

Heh okay! 🤷🏽‍♀️

So this is the first Holly Ryan series I’ve read and it was okay, I always have higher expectations when it comes to vampires.

The Slayers Reverse Harem series is obviously a fantasy RH. Each book is fast paced and given I listened to these via audible it seem I was getting through them quite quickly.

Given that it was an audible, I definitely though the voice over was great, perfect fit for Belle!

Belle is quite hilarious as well her mind was permanently stuck in the gutter when she wasn’t slaying vampires, actually nah not even then.

Her love interests, Jaser, Eddie and Sawyer sound smoking hot and were there for her every need. Ironic huh, vampire slayer shacking it up with not one but three gorgeous vamps. And their scenes together super hot.

The only reason why I gave a 3 rating is because the story felt a bit rushed I would have liked a bit more depth and I think that last scene with Paul was entirely too easy given his powers - he shouldn’t of needed a backup plan! But there you have it. I do recommend that these be read back to back.

Story:4
Narration: 5
Overall: 5
This is the second book in The Slayers Reverse Harem series and it picks up where Vampires Don't Give Hickeys left off.
Ramping up the action, this instalment was high on fantasy horror and fear packed, tension. The graveyards terrifying prowlers are still out to take the slayer down.
Belle is offered the chance to learn things that could save her, but at the expense of one of her Vamps. They have shown her such security and support (not to mention intense passion.) You will have to read / listen to this to discover whether Belle can betray one of her loyal lovers to save herself.
Once again I cannot fault the narration by Melissa Schwairy. She maintained the high level of vocal acting, with the same distinct character voices and fabulous narration. I imagine that as a narrator, it must be hard to walk the fine line when doing sexy scenes, and boy, are there some sexy scenes, but as with Vampires Don't Give Hickeys the sexy scenes were sensual and flowed with the story.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by  Holly Ryan. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
