Enfolded in Christ is a book about priesthood with a difference. Instead of focusing on ministry, it helps priests develop a healthy spiritual life to sustain them through the demands of their calling. John-Francis Friendship draws on extensive experience in pastoral supervision and spiritual direction to help priests cultivate spiritual practices and habits that will nurture a priests's relationship with Christ, sustain holy living and foster personal well-being. In a series of reflections based on the charges in the ordination service, he explores a range of topics • Growing in holiness • The call to wholeness • Keeping prayer fresh • Preparing for the Eucharist • Healthy relationships
After a career in business I entered Religious Life in 1976 and spent 25 years with the (Anglican) Society of S. Francis and was ordained to the priesthood.
From 2001 – 2011 I was Rector of St. Andrew's, Romford during which time I was released from my Vows. Now, in addition to priestly ministry, I offer Spiritual Direction and Pastoral Supervision.
For 13 years I taught at the London Centre for Spiritual Direction as well as developing and co-delivering Exploring Christian Spirituality. I now lead Quiet Days, Retreats and day Courses and continue to preside and preach in parishes when invited.
My first book was 'Enfolded in Christ – the Inner Life of a Priest' and my second, 'The Mystery of Faith – Introducing Christian Faith'. In September 2021 my third, 'What DFo You Seek? Treasures of Religious LIfe' will be published by Canterbury Press,
Rereading this on the eve of ordination, having first read it three years ago as I began training. Much of what Friendship says is now falling into place, and this is a book that manages to be both comforting and challenging; the chapter on deaconing is particularly insightful.
